The dressing room is split accorindng to CJ. Some of it is down to Slot and some of it is down to a group of players who have been here a while. He didn't want to talk about it and I had to twist his ear to get that out of him. The lad is beyond unhappy with the whole situation as a player and a fan.
On the interim, this comes from someone else at the club. As VG said before, its all of a sudden become proper leaky. No names but it will be someone who understands the league and can motivate the players.
There is 0 chance Klopp comes back.
My own personal opinion is the club are not going to be able to make everyone happy with what they do next. I'm not a fan of interims but if we go down that route, I only see it being someone like Gerrard because of the connection with the fans, club and league.
07 Dec 2025 16:37:24
Thanks TF. Gerrard would certainly bring energy and history with him. Perhaps Hetinga could be his number 2 for some familiarity.
Who is first choice for full time come summer (and available)?
07 Dec 2025 16:54:46
Thanks Fields. I'm not entirely happy with Gerrard, and understand he has his own preferred team (including an assistant) . But I do wonder if someone like Lijnders, Heitinga etc could come in as assistant a make a difference?
Gonna be a messy one, regardless.
07 Dec 2025 17:00:09
As93lfc why would lijnders leave being an assistant to Pep at city to come and do the same here…. personally since he went to City I wouldn’t want him back anyway.
07 Dec 2025 17:01:22
Gerrard would be a terrible appointment. He’s done nothing in his managerial career to suggest he’s remotely capable. His Villa side were atrocious, couldn’t defend, were disorganised in the middle, couldn’t control games or hold on to leads and the players downed tools. Sounds familiar?
07 Dec 2025 17:04:39
For me the blame for all of this mess comes downt to Hughes. he's the one ultimately responsible for putting this group together and if he is as involved, as some say, in lineups, etc then he is further confusing and exasperating the situation.
Maybe it is part of his master plan, but I'm like Ed001 in that I never liked that Hughes was put in charge and it is becoming even more clear that he is out of his depth, in my opinion. There were rumours of him being recruited to Saudi. I hope that is true.
07 Dec 2025 17:04:45
Cheers fields. Do you think there will he clear the air talks with Mo or have bridges been burnt?
The only slight positives I can take from this weekend is that 4th is still very attainable maybe even 3rd with a decent run of results and Ekitike looks sharp.
Hopefully a trip to Italy does everyone some good.
Gerrard might be just what we need for 6 months, it would certainly be some story if things did go well.
07 Dec 2025 17:11:04
Stick with Slot in this transition year whilst he sorts out the team. We need a big January now. Slot can only be judged when he has his own squad of players who can play the way he wants. We always knew a big transition was needed with Salah, VVD, Robbo getting on and Trent leaving. Diaz leaving, Jota RIP and Nunez. Ali will eventually go back to Brazil. Add to that Konate, Macca, Gakpo form falling off a cliff and the new signings not being great.
Not sure another manager would do any better and would face exactly the same significant challenges. Slot still has credit from winning the league for me. If it’s still sht this time next season then he would deserve to be sacked. Right now I don’t think he does. Bit surprised how fans on here have reacted tbh. We are going through a huge transition of the squad with our legendary players not playing well. Give the man a chance.
07 Dec 2025 17:14:34
as93lfc You living under a rock?! Lijnders is Assistant Manager over at City.
I can't fathom a reason why Heitinga would leave Ajax as head coach to come back as assistant, especially when he was only with us for 1 season. Unless Ajax finish bottom half of the table, he gets sacked and Liverpool are the only ones to offer him a job. and even then I'd have my doubts.
07 Dec 2025 17:20:47
Cheers the Fields. Something got to give.
07 Dec 2025 17:20:57
Well no need to name who. The longest serving players are all part of the leadership team - that doesn’t make translating tactics into to the pitch easy, no matter how crap slots been this season. I’m assuming it would be the likes of Robbo Salah vvd etc maybe even Konate and Mac allister.
Also happens to be that this is basically the same group of players who’ve been dropping stinkers all season. I would say the younger and newer players even if they’ve been disappointing should be given a pardon due to only just joining and it doesn’t sound like they’re in the same boat re the divide.
07 Dec 2025 17:22:29
As ed 1 said before for an interim id rather Dalglish maybe Heitinga or Gerrard or fowler to assist him. I'm surprised how Fowler can't get a look in anywhere for a job speaks well plenty of knowledge and a big name, especially nowadays when people are getting jobs on the back of there name alone like Gerrard and Rooney.
07 Dec 2025 17:23:37
Ljinders is at City with Pep so won't be coming in.
07 Dec 2025 17:35:38
If it's going to be Gerrard, it has to be with a very experienced tactically astute assistant who is equipped to organise training sessions to get us back to playing "the Liverpool way. " I'm not prepared to tolerate the identityless, all over the place mess I saw at Villa. Sorry but no Gary Mac.
07 Dec 2025 17:59:11
Mad one Fields but I’ve heard Emma Hayes name thrown in the mix as interim. I’m sure it has no legs but would that even be a consideration?
07 Dec 2025 18:04:47
Chewy Heitinga was sacked by Ajax few weeks ago.
07 Dec 2025 18:26:19
Warmachine might be the most tolerant person I've ever met.
"sir he only tried to shoot me 56 times, he might have meant to miss"
Slot is clearly out of his depth, he clearly can't man manage, and he clearly seems to have lost any semblance of tactical nuance he had last year.
07 Dec 2025 18:27:43
Wouldn't suprise me if it was someone like Ange. P who is available, likes the club and apparently the club also respected his approach, even if he isn't a long term solution.
07 Dec 2025 18:41:40
Stevie G would get the juices flowing for a few months at least. There's no way he gets the job full time unless he wins the CL and gets top 3, but even then i reckon they'd think twice.
Who else is there for a 6 month period that could raise the energy and get everyone gelled?
07 Dec 2025 18:44:36
Kenny's 74. I wouldn't want to put picking up this mess on him, even on an interim basis.
07 Dec 2025 18:57:23
Babbity, cracking word that - identityless.
07 Dec 2025 19:22:08
The issue for me now is all about credibility. There is no doubting Mo has given an outstanding contribution to the club, but to go public like he has just isn’t the Liverpool way. It also shines a further light on Slot as it’s clear the relationship there is burnt, and how many other players have similar relationship issues? But if the club decide to move him on, it needs to be someone who can galvanise this team and achieve top 4, else their reputations will be further damaged ( I’m talking about Hughes and Edwards) I’m not in the know, just a lifelong fan but I live in Bournemouth and I watch Bournemouth regularly.
Iraola is great but I remain to be convinced he can do it at a club like Liverpool with all the big personalities. So even if they could get him, I’m not sure Bournemouth would let him go without a decent replacement lined up and in summer there may be better options available. Given how from a recruitment perspective we were the gold standard for years, I’m amazed it’s been left to go this far. It’s going to be a interesting 2 months with this an the Jan window upcoming.
07 Dec 2025 19:43:03
I’d def not see myself as tolerant, but if a manager gets sacked I’d like to make damn sure it’s the right move and not regret it like Utd and Chelsea have done over and over again. For me, the movement against Slot is way over the top after 15 odd games. He talks a lot of sense and appears to know what needs sorting. There’s no magic wand. Anyone seriously thinking Gerrard or an interim manager is the answer is way way off imo. Early in the season Slot was clearly trying to find the right balance to the team and get injured players and new signings up to speed. Right thing to do. A lot of these recent games we have played better and individual errors, deflections, and bad decisions are costing us. The decisions he is making are also what most people on here want. Everyone said drop Salah, he did it. Everyone said give Ekitike a go over Isak, he did exactly that.
Everyone was saying drop Macca, he did it. He knows Szob ain’t a right sided winger, but we were being targeted down that side so he tried to deal with it. Konate had a decent game against Sunderland and Gomes needs wrapping in cotton wool. Imo no way is that even a penalty, minimal contact and the Leeds player made far too much of it. VVD is making mistakes but drop the captain with no viable alternative. No chance. Slot can only do so much. The squad needs an overhaul. He needs time to do it. You say, he clearly can’t manage and has no tactical nuance yet he won us the premier league last year for only the 2nd time in our history. Klopp won 1. We failed to qualify for the cgampions league under Klopp but no one wanted him sacked. People these days want instant gratification and bail at any sign of trouble. We aren’t even half way into a season of transition.
07 Dec 2025 19:58:03
Wouldn’t want gerrard anywhere near the job, not done enough to have a chance.
07 Dec 2025 20:03:37
Could be big Ange, I’ve a feeling about that.
Whoever it is, the job of an interim will be to rid the club of this destructive influence and if that is a group of players then so be it.
Would love Milner as part of our management team.
07 Dec 2025 19:06:22
Haha. This was wonderful - “Warmachine might be the most tolerant person I've ever met.
"sir he only tried to shoot me 56 times, he might have meant to miss””.
07 Dec 2025 20:35:59
@warmachine: it’s scary changing manager but sometimes needs must. I’m up down with it. You can’t say this team is not good enough to beat most of the teams that have beat us? I won’t make excuses for him when even as fresh as yesterday Bradley szob and grav was playing triangles at the edge of the box rather than cross it in to the waiting Ekitike and gakpo? The ball ending up being played back to Virg. Wide open space for crosses but no one would do it? I get he has dropped players but it’s only the last couple of weeks that’s happened.
As much as some players are underperforming and taking the flak for losses it’s on slot and his tactics. He making good players look crap. That’s probably the devision in the changing room. I can’t sit here and say give him time when he is showing no improvement in the performances. If he thinks the football we’re playing is fitting for a premier league team let alone champions and a European favourite he needs help. I’m not a fan of Iraola but whoever comes in have a lot to live up to but his type of football is easily improved so we go from there.
07 Dec 2025 20:53:54
Fair points scouse John. I just think things have happened this season that means he needs more time to be sure he’s not good enough.
07 Dec 2025 20:58:46
War Machine, I'm not hearing a lot of sense out of Slot this season. All that comes to mind is a lot of excuses and confusion.
We all perform our best when we believe in what we are doing and we have the right support. Clearly both of those ingredients are missing on the pitch and that's all on the manager. Our poor form goes way back to March and there is no sign of improvement. The manner of our setbacks are getting worse not better.
With respect to Mo, he's either a lone wolf and putting himself first or he's trying to highlight a much deeper problem within the team and the coaching staff.
07 Dec 2025 21:03:13
Wouldn't want Gerrard anywhere near the club. He was an awful manager and a bit of a tool who used to throw his weight about in night clubs in Southport when he was backed up by his cronies. Slot is still not beyond redemption if he ships out Mo, Macallister and Gakpo in January and brings in a defensive midfielder and a 2 or three defenders.
07 Dec 2025 21:07:34
Scouse, totally agree. WM, Dom played RW the season before joining us.
07 Dec 2025 21:23:18
Postecoglu, Gerrard, Emma Hayes, that’s truly the dregs.
{Ed025's Note - thats the cast for the new "3 Stooges" movie VV..
07 Dec 2025 23:44:02
WarMachine73 Slot making a lot of sense? Appears to know what needs sorting out? Can you please explain that with quotes/ references? Genuinely, I'd really like to know.
Because i've seen every interview, and in each one he says something even more jaw-dropping than the last. He repeatedly exposes his own inability and lack of understanding or ability to adapt. He openly admits we can't play against a low block. He's made out like teams only play a low block against us. He blamed the Arsenal game on the fact that Arteta changed the lineup. He said he's beginning to see a pattern in the goals we concede, they're either a penalty or a deflection (only 7 of the 24 goals we've conceded were penalties or deflections) He said the only way to beat a low block is a "moment of magic". He said "the goals go in easier in our end than the opponents. And that's just a handful of mind boggling statements. I'm not going to tackle all of them but the "moment of magic" one is genuinely a sackable offence in my opinion. Imagine openly admitting that your teams only hope for winning a game against a low block is a miracle! Unbelievable.
He complains about and uses the low block as an excuse in pretty much every game. But the real problem is that he doesn't even realise the play style HE CHOOSES is practically forcing teams into a low block. He has us hard pressing in the final third when to recover possession and then overloading the final third on the attack. What does he expect teams to do when they've got 6-8 red shirts lurking around their box for 60-70% of the game?! It's absolutely bewildering to watch him employ the same ineffective tactics week in week out and make the same complaints without so much as flirting with the idea of changing his approach. For me personally it shows a severe lack of tactical understanding.
08 Dec 2025 02:54:02
It's all mind boggling chewy.
07 Dec 2025 22:21:44
Or the worst dirty movie ever, Ed025.
{Ed025's Note - love it VV..
08 Dec 2025 08:45:32
What a sad state of affairs, the believers are now doubters, the team spirit looks lost, the playing style has gone, fitness looks like its gone, keeps playing the same players Konate, Kerkez, Gakpo, Maca, Isaak even though none look like they have ever kicked a ball before, It looks to me like Konate wants to get Slot sacked, not all players like that can lose form at the same time, it has to how they are training or instructions they are being told.
Like i said its a sad state of affairs.
