Touching on what Carra said yesterday, as people don't half get caught up in the semantics of things.

Alonso has said he will join, nothing signed or set in stone because we still have a manager and he wants to have a break.

Slot is here for the foreseeable, so get use to it. I heard something yesterday which made it make sense for me. A mutual parting of ways is a benefit to all parties in the summer.

19 Jan 2026 15:51:00
Yeah spot on fields. That's what I am aware of anyways.

19 Jan 2026 15:53:25
Cheers mate!

Let's just hope we can knuckle down now and have a semi decent second half of the season and kick on. Makes sense as long as we get UCL football and unless something drastic happened I kind of assumed they would keep hold of Slot and make a decision in the summer, don't know if I think that's the correct move but again I'm not getting paid the big bucks to make those decisions.

I think for us all if we could see some better more progressive footy and better results, I think we would all happily mutually part ways in the summer and say thanks to Arne for the league title but move onto something new.
More focus for me would be on Hughes who also seems slightly out of his depth and as a few people have alluded too, might not be as good as he is made out to be.

Interesting times ahead for the reds, let's hope we can knick a UCL win, who knows… crazier things have happened! ?.

19 Jan 2026 16:02:01
Unless of course we continue to play dross football and fail to win games, like we have been doing. Keeping him longer than necessary, could do more harm than good.

19 Jan 2026 16:19:50
Cheers, Thefields.

For the record, a mutual parting having dropped out of the CL places will not be beneficial for the club or the supporters - the customers.

Dropping out of the CL in 23/ 24 would have been an expensive shock for the club's revenues.

Then after re-qualifying for 24/ 25, we got unlucky drawing the eventual winners in the R16.

And now we're gambling with potentially not even making it to the R16 this year and the possibility of not qualifying for next season's competition.

If all true, the sporting hiearchy's judgement has to be called into question. All for what? Potentially being compared to United or Chelsea? It's not remotely similar!

19 Jan 2026 16:26:51
Fields will that change if results don't pick up and we drop out off the top 5.
I think the club are taking a massive gamble because we have just had the easiest run you could hope for and still dropping points against the weakest teams in the league.

19 Jan 2026 16:30:46
Hopefully we're still in the top four by the time that happens.

19 Jan 2026 16:31:53
I feel as if they are getting their ducks in order with regards to Alonso so we have a ready made replacement good to go for when Slot leaves.

I say "when" and not "if" because it seems inevitable now.

I can only see Slot lasting until the summer if he manages to keep his head above the water with regards to results, staying firmly in the top 4 and also keeping the fans onside.

I reckon he's probably only a couple of losses or bad draws away now though, crowds beginning to turn and he's not going in the right direction. If he wants to stay until the summer he's going to have to start winning and playing well.

So I reckon we will see Alonso sooner rather than later because I can't see Slot getting a tune out of this squad of superstars and the boos will soon be deafening.

19 Jan 2026 16:39:20
Makes sense.
Cheers.

19 Jan 2026 16:46:06
Youre breaking ma heart mate. Honestly don't know how I am suppose to go on like this until the summer. But thanks for the clarification despite it being devastating.

19 Jan 2026 17:45:24
We could easily go out on a high with Arne and use it more a celebration on what he's achieved winning us the premier league

But he just can't get a tune out of this group of players anymore, we look like the slowest Team in the entire world.

I Can't actually believe it. It's an enigma. Why Isit seemingly impossible to play slightly quicker and excite the fans. We could seriously end it happy and joyous, but it'll end in tears and disappointment because he won't simply adapt to the Squad.

19 Jan 2026 17:46:59
Maybe the fact Slot hasn't moved his family here alludes to something. Rafa did, Klopp did, the fact he hasn't makes me think it was always a short term thing for him or he wasn't fully committed.

19 Jan 2026 18:03:50
Its a big gamble leaving it till the summer with how the performances are going we're lucky that its a poor season all round for most teams to still be in with a chance for top 4. Could that be the reason they club never looked to bring heitinga back, knowing more then likely having to pay him off once the change in manager happens.

19 Jan 2026 18:07:02
I don't see that having a manager who knows he's soon to be the ex is good for the club. If Alonso isn't available until the summer, bring in someone who can fire up the crowd and the players until he is.

19 Jan 2026 18:32:51
Like who?, a new manager will want to change style, tactics etc and rhay is more likely to cause us to lose matches as players try and adapt. Better stay with what we have and hope Villa implode.

19 Jan 2026 19:01:29
No idea but unless this guy changes tack CL next season is up in the air. We've just come through a run of "winnable" games and been found wanting. We should have daylight in 4th but we don't. The run of fixtures through the end of February is on paper much more challenging.

19 Jan 2026 19:07:22
I simply do not understand this narrative that Slot knows he's gone unless things improve or is gone in the summer. It's been spun for weeks, we have been dreadful now for months, and nothing is or has changed.
Just bullet him and either wait until the summer for a new permanent manager or get someone in now who can get a tune out of a team of superstars and play something resembling attacking football.

If he has the backing of 'the board' then it is them I'm really worried about….

19 Jan 2026 19:22:19
Hello all,

Fields has summed it up perfectly and better than I would have.

I couldn't give timeframes etc as I didn't have that information.

However, hearing what I've heard now this falls directly in line with what's happening.

Ta.

Thanks for the info TheFields and others who have contributed towards this discussion, always appreciated.

The thing I find totally Mad is, how on earth do we all know that Xabi has agreed to join Liverpool at the end of the season when there is still a current Liverpool manager in charge?
You would think that out of respect of the current manager, these conversations would be EXTREMELY private with literally only a handful of top brass knowing about the next steps.
Unless Slot is very open and knows already he is 100% leaving at the end of the season (or earlier) pending the next few weeks/ months. Which i'm honestly not sure (in his mind at least) is the case.

19 Jan 2026 19:37:34
I can't imagine Slot is not aware either through leaks or convos w the club. Hope he doesn't drop the pack and his bonuses will make sure he doesn't.

19 Jan 2026 19:49:02
Well this is depressing, before you all bury me for being negative….

• 25 games of less than entertaining football
• still desperately short at the back/ vulnerable
• seemingly dysfunctional decision-makers
• UCL qualification absolutely not guaranteed
• further disgruntlement amongst players
• and the big one…

… all of of our ITKs thought Semenyo and Guehi were nailed on, the latter had even 'given his word' apparently, so I really see so no reason to be excited at the moment.

Xabi's, a definite maybe as it stands.

To go from league winners and spend several hundred million, to get to this stage in a few months takes something quite special.

19 Jan 2026 20:38:26
I don't see anything sus about slot's family not moving. Clearly he and his wife made a decision that it was what was best for the kids and her. Unless you are suggesting he should have forced her to move? And flying back regularly is a good thing - maybe Slot wants to see them and not end up divorced? Suggests to me he really did want the job and has tried to work a compromise that would enable it to happen.

19 Jan 2026 20:47:48
FS totally agree. Epic waste of a season.

19 Jan 2026 21:05:51
I think some of you either didn't read my post properly or understand it ?. Alonso is taking a break and won't agree fully to take over, whilst Slot is still in charge. That simple ?.

IMO. Slot will have heard the rumours no doubt, he also knows he's not been good enough and lucky to have survived this far. He may even be surprised he hasn't been sacked. You can tell by the way he is, things are worryng him. Plus the results and style of play. that's why you hear the club say they are backing him. Has Henry been chatting to Xabi like he did Jurgen and not those in charge on a day to day? Who knows eh ?.

20 Jan 2026 01:16:34
Thanks, fields. Not exactly what I want to hear but it is what it is - something is telling me he won't last until the summer but maybe that's wishful thinking lol.

20 Jan 2026 02:33:23
The divorce is inevitable. The club is already eyeing up other talent and maybe losing a few pounds in the process metaphorically speaking. Timing TBD but another bad run could result in a quicker parting of ways and subsequent new flame.

20 Jan 2026 03:41:12
Salah, I think he's one more bad run from the heave ho. Surely if 4th is looking skosh then the club has to act. I'm not hopeful looking at our fixtures between this weekend and the end of Feb.

And in a WC year coupled with players wanting to leave, I can't see them going all out for the club if they haven't so far. United look as tho they can steal a march on us with the new manager bump and players willing to fight for the cause.
