Any manager news? Seems to have all gone quiet.
Sa, with only 10 league games left, even if we go out of both cups in the next round, I can't see anything happening now, because there would only be 8 games left, so unless we lose our next 5 games, I can't see anything changing.
01 Mar 2026 14:47:35
I imagine, if we get top 5 and enjoy a run in one of the cups, we may stick with Slot.
01 Mar 2026 14:52:46
CL final and/or win, FA Cup, and top 3. I think, all things being considered, he may keep his job.
01 Mar 2026 14:56:29
If we are top 4 with silverware, I suspect his job will be safe, with an expectation of challenging for the title next year. If this doesn't happen, I suspect action will be taken after about a third of next season.
01 Mar 2026 15:00:36
I'm not a Slot out or in, I was just wondering as there was a lot of talk about Alonso a couple of months ago.
01 Mar 2026 15:08:54
Slot is staying if we qualify for the CL.
01 Mar 2026 15:14:01
I think Slot is gone in the summer by mutual agreement, and both parties will be happy.
I think Slot's family have no interest in moving over, and he and the club no longer see that as a sustainable long-term solution.
01 Mar 2026 15:37:22
Definitely not expecting a change of manager anytime soon. We'll get CL next season as I fancy us to finish above Chelsea and Villa, which will be enough for Slot to survive until next season.
Don't even think going out of the cups will affect this. But then, I'd expect next season he'll be on thin ice very quickly if we aren't right up around the top of the league.
01 Mar 2026 15:40:33
grino75, What does his family address have to do with a "long-term solution"? You're aware his wife and kids don't play for the club, right? They're not exactly missing training sessions due to travel time.
01 Mar 2026 16:04:45
@Chewy, it's a question of work / life balance, isn't it? If the Slots, as a family, choose for his wife and children to stay in Holland, then it's inevitable that at some point he'll rejoin them. Odd as it may seem, people do want a life outside of work.
01 Mar 2026 16:25:51
I can see that being the case as well, Grino.
01 Mar 2026 16:51:08
Still think Slot will go, and I'll stand by that.
01 Mar 2026 17:20:54
I think it goes one of 2 ways.
I don't see him just seeing out his last year.
He either has a great end to the season, finishes top 4 and wins the FA Cup or the CL, leading to an extended contract.
Or they work out his exit in the summer and a new man comes in, hopefully a manager.
01 Mar 2026 17:34:42
Chew Slot said, come last March he needed a break to go see his wife and kids. It is not like normal jobs, where you might be willing to work abroad to provide a better life for your family, where you work away a lot. But Slot is a multi millionaire now, and he can get a good-paying job back in his own country near his wife and kids. Money is fantastic, but if you're not fully happy, it's not much good.
After he finishes work, he goes home to an empty house. It's not like when you're working away on a normal job, where loads of people are in the same boat.
He must be pretty lonely, two years like this, so you think Klopp would have stayed as long as he did without Ulla there for support. No, him losing his dog was a massive loss, because walking that was his bit of normality.
01 Mar 2026 17:49:17
Yeh, but he's going to want to manage at the highest level he can.
01 Mar 2026 18:15:52
Florian, but maybe that's only in Holland or until his kids have grown up and moved on in their life.
As the old saying goes, happy wife, happy life, and maybe he loves his wife more than his career.
01 Mar 2026 18:46:56
grino75, Personally, I feel like if he's leaving, it would be because of the season's shortcomings, in spite of a record transfer window and a high level of expectation. But I see where you're coming from, it's a fair point.
01 Mar 2026 20:41:05
Nice one, @Ron. Two options - he either stays or he goes, eh? ??
01 Mar 2026 21:16:14
The thing is - who decided his family stayed in Holland? I can't entertain that as any form of excuse.
Personally, I have nothing against Arne. He led us to a Premiership; however, this season the team has been abject, and the Tottenham away game was, for me, the game in which he should have been removed.
We won 5 - 2 yesterday, but can anyone honestly say we played good football, or looked convincing? Once again, let's wait till 75 minutes or thereabouts before we make substitutions.
Surely, if players aren't putting in, you substitute them.
Arne will be here till season's end, irrespective. As for next season, surely the owners cannot be that deluded to think that this is the way forward?
01 Mar 2026 21:16:23
Surely Slot would know that if there is even a hint he wants to leave LFC due to be with his family/work-life balance, his days as a manager with any top-flight clubs outside his home country are surely over. Even if you think he would get a job when his kids are older or his family moved country, there would be a significant question mark over his ability to commit to a top job.
And before anyone starts telling me family/work life are important, remember the life of a professional sports footballer is nomadic by its nature, and the player/manager doesn't always get to choose how long they stay in one place.
Only last summer, R Sterling was turning down PL clubs because he didn't want to leave London for family reasons. Next thing we know, he is offering his services to a German club, then decamps to Holland.
I'm sorry, I'm going to call BS on anyone suggesting Slot would want to leave a top-tier club like LFC because he wants to go home. It would be the football version of professional hari kari.
01 Mar 2026 21:58:54
WDW4,
1) Stays and gets extended.
2) He goes.
But not 3) He sees out his final season without an extension.
01 Mar 2026 22:15:44
Slot will either stay or go, mate. That's like, that's people, that's personalities. Cherchez la femme, mate.
02 Mar 2026 01:19:23
@Ron, Sorry mate - just a bit of banter.
02 Mar 2026 01:21:55
@D-day, You are imagining what you would or wouldn't do in his position, which is fair enough, but that doesn't mean that Slot would do, or has to do, the same thing that you imagine you would do.
02 Mar 2026 07:25:14
WDW, I don't for one second imagine any professional footballer/manager goes into the job thinking they are assured employment in a location of their choosing. I also don't think any manager with aspirations of managing any of the world's top football clubs would limit their ambition to The Netherlands.
I am also confident that all the top clubs do their research and would know that a manager who is prone to homesickness, or who wants to move back home having committed to managing their club, might not be their best choice.
02 Mar 2026 07:47:54
Sorry @D-day, I'm not sure what you are on about. What you imagine, or don't imagine, is up to you, but whatever you think is absolutely fine, and it still doesn't matter with respect to what Arne Slot may or may not do.
I'll say again, what you would want to do in your life doesn't mean that anybody else, Slot, me, or anybody you can think of, would necessarily want to do the same thing.
02 Mar 2026 09:47:57
Grino, are your thoughts on Slot's family based on any info you have or anything that has been reported in the past?
Just asking, as I've never heard that his family didn't want to come over, but I could easily have missed something.
02 Mar 2026 10:03:27
D-Day, Checking if a manager gets homesick is not due diligence, because if someone comes to you asking if you want the Liverpool job, you simply say 'no, I do not get homesick.' There is not a tangible way of addressing that.
Also, when did his family situation become a part of the discussion? They come over a lot for long weekends and in school holidays. Holland to Liverpool is a hop. It takes no time.
02 Mar 2026 16:04:21
DK, no inside info, but considering he is about 20 months into a 36 month contract, they have not moved over and any chance he gets he travels back home rather than them travelling here, it suggests they have no intention of moving here.
02 Mar 2026 16:15:49
In regard to Slot being manager next year, he'll either stay or go. Remember where you read this first, folks. ITK exclusive. ?
