Feel like it’s worth mentioning to sooth nerves.
Journalists reveal what clubs want revealed. When journalists are briefed, as plenty have been tonight in regard to Alonso/Chelsea, it is part of a plan. If you are familiar with Edwards and how he operates, you will also know how his media briefing antics work.
Yes, Chelsea have made an approach to Xabi Alonso’s agent, and no, I personally am not concerned. It would take a colossal f*** up for it to be fumbled now.
Edwards wants journalists to brief that Slot is staying and we have not made an approach for Alonso. Making negotiations public before the end of the season can destabilise talks and bring other clubs into the fold. While Alonso hasn’t signed for us, it leaves any door open, hence why talks with Chelsea have taken place. Liverpool have been and remains his first choice since his departure from Real Madrid.

That is exactly what Edwards does - It's part of the persona and part of the game. This is huge business beyond what we all feel about supporting our team, and leaks can cause financial losses, so of course disinformation is spread all over the place.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the logic here. Other clubs already seem to be in the fold, but if Xabi prefers Liverpool none of that matters. If anything, I feel like the briefs on Slot staying, plus Xabi to Chelski links, just brings more scrutiny and hostility towards Slot.

I can't say I know any insights, but I agree with the sentiment. It also doesn't look good when you're briefing the world about a new manager taking over from one who isn't retiring.
Man City did this with Pellegrini and it went down like a lead balloon when they announced Pep as the new manager without telling Pellegrini he was gone.
I remember years ago, O'Neill was meant to take over West Ham and they announced it before the agreed time and having not informed the current manager. O'Neill subsequently walked away from managing the Hammers because of how they went about their business.

Although the next manager question is the rumour site equivalent of watching a penalty shoot out, nerves wise, I keep telling myself.
When Klopp arrived, he said we need to stop trying to replicate the past and create our own history.
As much as I like Iraola and Hoeness, wouldn’t both be trying to replicate the Klopp years, which in football terms never works.
With Alonso, when you look at his playing career, the managers he has played under, when you really understand his tactical ideas as a manager and how he wants his teams to play, then look at his Liverpool connections from being managed by Toshack to Istanbal, his love of the city, people, and club, that his kids were born here, how unlike other clubs our success requires a manager who understands the city, the fans and the club and unites them into one, then consider he will be settled here and give his heart and sole to succeed, and his methods in coaching, professionalism, intensity, innovation.
Then surely…….not employing Xabi now when he's available, would be a bigger recruitment shock than if Mickey Mouse was out of work but Disney employed Danger Mouse over him to meet and great at Disneyland.

@Eyals, In answer to your question regarding news VG broke, I was carefully monitoring responses to the Wirtz transfer to try and identify who might know things. VG correctly contradicted stories on the timing of Wirtz's arrival.
Perhaps that wasn't ground breaking, but he's on my list of people to take note of. Also, VG did hint at where he might get his/her news from.
