There is now serious consideration being given to changing the head coach at Liverpool. It would require an admission higher up that things are beyond repair, but the question is at least now posed. It would also mean a reshuffle above the head coach at the director level.

Bit late now with Xabi already at Chelsea but guess we get what we get now.
16 May 2026 14:45:05
Iraloa has shown he can do it in this league, at a small club.
Who do people rate as most proven, Iraloa, Alonso, or Hoeness?
16 May 2026 14:57:39
Alonso has won a league against a giant. There is no better answer than that. It's unforgivable that we let him go to Chelsea.
16 May 2026 14:57:40
I'd rather gamble and take a new manager and it fails.
Over sticking with Slot and sitting through another season of this. I can't watch this kind of football for another year. I just can't do it, it's the most boring, depressing, slow team in the world.
16 May 2026 14:58:05
With all due respect, Iraola hasn't won any titles as of yet. Same for Hoeness. That's what makes Alonso a standout candidate among the three managers.
16 May 2026 15:01:24
Fat Spanish Waiter. I live in Bournemouth and watch them a lot. My heart says Xabi, due to the Liverpool connection, but my head says Iraola. He would play attractive football, play younger players. My only question is how he would deal with bigger egos, as Bournemouth typically don't have those types of players. I don't know enough about Hoeness to comment on him.

FSW.
Alonso has a history with the club, has proven successful at Leverkusen & would instantly connect with the fans & probably get given time to settle in if things don’t start too great. Never managed in PL, so might need some adjustment.
Iraola has PL experience & has done a great job at Bournemouth. Has them playing exciting football & by all accounts players love him & would run through a brick wall for him.
Never managed a big club, however.
Hoeness is very similar to Klopp apparently but I know little about him.
Any appointment is a risk, for sentimental reasons I’d say Alonso but I’d happily take the other two as well.
Anyone who can get us playing some good football, can make us excited about match days again & get the best out of the players we have with a few additions in the summer.
16 May 2026 15:05:17
I take Ireola all day, work he's done at Bournemouth, while constantly being raided for his players, is fantastic. Seems to have that man motivator trait, as his team always play their guts out for him. Alonso is an ex player so LFC will have a soft spot for him, Hoeness is least qualified of the 3.
16 May 2026 15:06:44
Where does it say Alonso has signed for Chelsea? I haven't seen a thing about it.
16 May 2026 15:08:26
There's rumours a meeting has been set by Mike Gordon. Not sure if the truth here, but I guess we will find out.
16 May 2026 15:11:13
If Alonso wanted to manage Liverpool enough he would make it happen. He's going to Chelsea, so clearly not the man for us.
I'd love Iraoa at LFC, and it would instantly provide much needed positivity we crave. ??
16 May 2026 15:19:06
I think Iraola is closer to Klopp than Hoeness.
16 May 2026 15:19:38
Eds am I missing something regards to Alonso?
{Ed001's Note - no idea sorry. I have no idea what is happening with him.}
16 May 2026 15:25:42
Cheers, everyone seems to be saying he has already signed for Chelsea. So thought I was looking in the wrong places for that news. Hope you are well.
{Ed001's Note - all good just at the footie here hoping for a better result than yesterday.}

We need consistency and a long term plan. We have to avoid changing managers every few years.
For me, Alonso is the best fit. I rate his relational and communication skills, as well as his intelligence and tactical acumen.
UTD about to appoint MC, leaving only CFC to get whoever we don't want.
16 May 2026 15:50:07
I would rather Alonso of the two, but either would be fine.
16 May 2026 15:55:22
FSW as normal spot on……. For me, even before Alonso would even take a training session, before his first game, he would already have done so much to restore the ingredients that are the constant to all the success we have had and the very DNA of our club, which Klopp proved by insisting we can’t live in the past and try to replicate it….. But a coach that unifies the squad, club, fans and red side of the city, who understands that what makes our club unique, regardless of formations, manager's CV, is a figure that brings that all together and we buy into his ideas however long it takes as long as we see where it's going, and Alonso would in some way restore these fundamentals before his team kicks a ball.
My hope is the main FSG board sees this, and intervene in the day-to-day CEO disconnect: Edwards, Hughes, Hogan……assuming Hogan potentially sees Alonso as the way ahead and the dispute is between them 3,
and I hope the main FSG board purely commercially at how best to maximise the value as an asset step in…..
16 May 2026 15:58:19
Seeing Xabi at Chelsea wouldn't be pleasant.
But Iraola, Hoeness, or (the dream) Enrique would still be good appointments over Slot.
16 May 2026 16:01:58
Eddie74, I'm with you. Whilst it's a romantic view, Alonso is the most likely to do a decade at the club. The togetherness which Klopp instilled has vanished in the space of a year - it is sad to see and hear.
16 May 2026 16:03:02
Main reason I don't want Iraola is because he's happy to have no involvement in signings, and the lack of managerial involvement is half the reason we're in this mess. There's been no cohesion between Arne and the suits, which has left us with a completely unbalanced squad that's incapable of playing effective football.
If Iraola comes in and manages to improve things somewhat under Mick and Dick, then all he's doing is saving those 2 complete muppets from the chopping block. Meaning extensions all round and years more suffering of incompetent execs for the fans. They all need to go, FSG need to realise the rot doesn't stop with Slot.
16 May 2026 16:50:56
I like Iraola and Hoeness, but for me both would be an attempt to replicate Klopp, and what Klopp proved is that you can't live in the past and try to replicate a style that brought past success. He also proved that whatever the formation or style we play, from Shankly to Klopp, success for is must have a coach that understands the club, fans and city and bring them together and be the figure head, the coaching need to be intense and unlike what everyone else is doing, players need to be professional and united.
We are innovators, original and unique, we do not copy, unity, hard work, passion, desire, humble ambition, we are Liverpool, we innovate and work, train, run, and dream more than everyone else as a minimum. No manager guarantees success, but only Alonso guarantees our principles, our identity and what without we have never succeeded, Alonso is the only option.
16 May 2026 16:58:32
Molbys Bar Tab - There are so many unpredictable factors. What's more important, prem experience as a manager or a soulful connection to the club and possibly the star player?
Alonso has all the tools and won't be on Real's lips after that debacle. They will regret sacking him so soon. The culture needs to change there.
16 May 2026 17:09:36
First things first, we need Slot gone. All the time he stays, no one else can be our manager. Let's hope Slot is gone, and we can then appoint a new manager. Until then, we are stuck with a manager that plays boring, inept football. No tactical or coaching ability.
I hope Henry, Warner or Gordon are now taking the lead and realise that we, as a fan base do NOT want Slot to lead us next season. But, all the time he is still head coach, Alonso, Iraola or Hoeness are not getting the job. Things need to change, now.
16 May 2026 17:42:26
This squad's set up for Xabi Alonso, he wants to be here, won't wanna leave for Real or Barca, perfect candidate.
16 May 2026 18:06:45
I like winners and Klopp was a winner. Alonso is a winner. So that's who I'd take.
