Ladies and gentlemen, tell me if you have thought of this!
I have a sneaky feeling Liverpool never even went in for Alonso seriously just like they never really went for Guehi the January transfer window and all the links was just hearsay because why would Alonso go to Chelsea if Liverpool were 100% interested and available? I think it’s just a guy wanting to get paid and take a job in football, which seems fair to me.

Yea, no s***, Sherlock.

16 May 2026 18:55:29
They didn't. All the reliable journalists said we never even spoke to him or his agent. I'm sorry, but a lot of the pretend ITK's on here just took quite a few mugs for a ride. People lap up unbelievable rumours when it matches what they want to hear.

16 May 2026 18:57:24
I think Chelsea have made him an unbelievable offer and he's asked Liverpool if they're going to match it.

Liverpool weren't ready to, so he has taken the offer from Chelsea.

I don't blame him, he wants a job, but I think he's been a bit hasty.

Good for him. His choice. But I can never accept him as Liverpool manager at any point in the future.

Those in the boardroom have well and truly fluffed our club. If anyone can get a tube out of Chelski, it will be Xabi, but my oh my, this is really bad.

16 May 2026 19:16:18
A lot of reliable jernos said we were never in for him, maybe he waited to see if we came in and we didn't, so he has taken the Chelsea job. He will either be a great success or be sacked in 6 months and that will finish him! On Salah's comments about getting back to heavy metal football, it sounds like he wouldn't have wanted Alonso anyway, maybe more Ireola does that style better than anyone atm! Tho why would it matter what style it is if Mo isn't going to be here.

Maybe he's saying this to give Slot a push out the door so he can stay next season.

We definitely made contact. He was our first choice when Klopp left. He's still our first choice, but talks broke down because Edwards is a control freak and Xabi isn't willing to leave anything on the table after what happened in Madrid; he's seen what a disaster this season's been for us when the manager has no control of transfers. It's a critical moment in his career; he needs his next job to be successful if he wants to continue to be viewed in the light he has been since Leverkusen, so, naturally, he's going to leave as little as possible up to incompetent suits like Hughes and Edwards if he doesn't have to.

I wouldn't be surprised if we left him on read after expressing a want to have more of a say in transfers.

16 May 2026 19:32:37
Klopp has asked to come back next year.

16 May 2026 19:38:56
Alonso was never in the running. He would want too much control and FSG want a coach, not a manager.

16 May 2026 19:43:32
No ill feelings towards Alonso, I have many though for the charlatans who run our club.

16 May 2026 19:47:31
You don't say... Been obvious for months that the powers that be at Liverpool don't rate Alonso particularly highly. In fact, it's fair to say, they can't rate him at all as they've made it clear they rate Slot higher. Been saying for months that all the ITKs claiming Alonso was a done deal etc etc were just peddling made up nonsense.

16 May 2026 19:58:34
Agree, MK.

The ITKs are very entertaining, so I wouldn't want them to go, but there hasn't been a shred of evidence that anything they've said about Slot has been true this season.

Maybe it is, but beyond their posts, there just is nothing to support it.

A lot of reputations were built on sticking to the Isak story last summer, but pretty much everyone knew we were just waiting for Newcastle to sign a replacement despite what the journalists were saying.

It's all just playing the probabilities, and sooner or later they have, will be, or are right now being found out.

16 May 2026 20:06:39
Sorry to say I told you so, but I did tell you all that Alonso was going to be Chelsea's next manager a while ago.

Not because I know anything, but it was always his likely choice. I suspect Slot is staying, or Ireola comes in - but this is circumspection on my part.

16 May 2026 20:09:31
MK your absolutely right. I miss the days of Ed2 may he RIP putting posters in their place especially if they pretended to know what's going on behind the scenes.
Macca was the one poster who knew what's going on but hasn't posted on the site for years.

16 May 2026 23:17:28
Are we allowed to boo him when he turns up at Anfield with his Chelsea ream. ?

17 May 2026 00:47:43
@Chewy, Serious question. How do you know that Alonso was Edwards' first choice? I've seen a lot of rumours and heard a lot of speculation, but you sound like you might have some facts and proof?
