Hi all,
Not often I say to take things with a pinch of salt - but with this one I advise it. I will always be quick to hold my hands up if I'm wrong.
Liverpool have been in direct talks with Bayern Munich regarding a deal for Michael Olise. The player is open to the move. Bayern have touted a price in the region of €165-175 million, which Liverpool could be prepared to meet if the payment is structured properly.
09 Jul 2026 16:20:44
Those are some scary numbers.
09 Jul 2026 16:20:49
Worth noting that I forgot to previously mention - there is a strong possibility that this is being planned for the summer of 2027.
09 Jul 2026 16:22:50
Goddamn, Victor!
09 Jul 2026 16:23:01
Wow. I can't see it happening, but wow.
09 Jul 2026 16:23:40
If this was the season we won the league, I would be more inclined to believe so.
However, since then our stock has declined and Olise's has massively inclined.
09 Jul 2026 16:32:28
Seems a risky idea to play this for 2027 and go into the season with our current winger options. Could end up finishing outside of Champions League spots quite easily with our current squad. Then there's no chance of securing the signing.
09 Jul 2026 16:36:34
I'd rather spend that money on Olise over Barcola.
09 Jul 2026 16:36:38
If you're forking out those numbers, it has to be for 2026, as you want to be getting every day of his prime as you can squeeze. He is brilliant though.
09 Jul 2026 16:51:23
Cheers for that. I hope it's not true. We shouldn't be paying those figures. When you include wages and agents, we need too many incoming to blow it all on one player.
09 Jul 2026 16:57:00
Choosing to believe this. I'd do anything to get Olise at this club.
09 Jul 2026 16:58:14
Why has our stock declined, Fowler? We are in the CL and still one of the biggest clubs in the world. No different to where we were last season for prospective players.
I would say the biggest problem for us when attracting players is exactly the same as it's always been.
Geography.
It's very hard to convince someone to live in the damp, cold Northwest of England rather than London, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, etc.
I love Liverpool, it's my hometown and the best city on the planet, but not many from outside the city share my enthusiasm.
09 Jul 2026 16:59:17
Failed in Premier League and had one good season in the Bundesliga.
Like Jayden Sancho.
09 Jul 2026 17:02:48
Won't happen, I love him too much so we won't sign him.
09 Jul 2026 17:05:34
I really hope this isn't true, he wasn't great in the prem and at fee and wage he would command... it has disaster written all over it!
09 Jul 2026 17:11:14
Not often do I say this, especially when we're talking about a fee in the region of EUR165-175 million, but if Bayern have genuinely quoted us that price, then it suggests they're willing to sell.
If they're willing to sell, just pay the asking price and get the deal done.
For me, Olise is comfortably the best right winger in world football at the moment.
He's Premier League proven, has taken his game to another level at Bayern, has delivered on the international stage, and he's only 24 years old.
Again, if there's any truth to this, there should only be one thing on Edwards' and Hughes' minds: get the deal done!
09 Jul 2026 17:15:22
Ron on cloud minus 9 as always. When did he fail in the Prem? He showed steady improvement year over year and bagged 16 G/A in his final year despite missing half the season due to injury.
And no, he didn't have just 1 good season in Germany. He's had 2x absolutely phenomenal seasons in the Bundesliga, with 43 G/A and 53 G/A, respectively.
He was named Rookie of the Season last year. He just won Bundesliga Player of the Year and is one of the frontrunners for the Ballon d'Or.
Do you just make stuff up in your head or what?
09 Jul 2026 17:33:11
@roisstepover,
We aren't in a position to challenge right now, and finishing 5th isn't as appealing as when we were winning the league with Salah and additions of Writz and Isaak.
09 Jul 2026 17:37:13
It would be a great signing, but I miss the days when we made superstars instead of buying them. I know I will be in the minority here.
09 Jul 2026 17:48:02
Quote whatever stats you want, Chewy, but the fact remains, when he left Palace for 60 million euros, not one top Premier League club was prepared to pay that. That tells you about his time in the Premier League.
The Bundesliga are experts at making their average players look world class because their defending is absolute tripe.
09 Jul 2026 17:55:03
A signing like this would make my head fall off.
09 Jul 2026 17:55:11
I think I'd have him over Diomande. Has prem experience and would be the closest fit to replace Salah imo.
09 Jul 2026 18:15:09
Right, so Ron, Kane's rubbish then too, according to you.
09 Jul 2026 18:16:09
I get that, Fowler, and it's a valid point. I just don't think players think like that.
If we are willing to pay them the money they want, they will know that they have as much chance of winning things at Liverpool as they do at any other English club.
Probably more because of our rich history.
One season doesn't change that.
Otherwise, why do players still sign for Utd?
09 Jul 2026 18:18:32
? Never happening!!
09 Jul 2026 18:22:49
He's not just doing it in Germany, Champions League, and really turning it on for France. At the moment, if there is one player who could replace Salah it's him.
09 Jul 2026 18:27:31
I guess financially, it's the fee for both Barcola and Diamonde combined - so, if it's true we were looking to sign both - then use the money for Olise instead - hypothetically speaking - omitting payment structures and all the other bits I have no idea about.
09 Jul 2026 18:29:22
Think it's probably somewhere in the middle. Olise is, for me, the best right winger in the world, but I don't think he'll be quite as effective in the PL as Bundesliga, but still more effective than anyone else I can think of.
09 Jul 2026 18:34:15
This is never happening. But people questioning his quality are insane. He's one of the most exciting players in the world.
09 Jul 2026 18:35:45
Who, how did you add 130 to 150 and get 175?
09 Jul 2026 18:46:45
@Ron, Sorry but you are wrong, with everyone refusing to pay the money for Olise, as us, Arsenal, City & Utd were all interested, but Olise himself wanted a chance to experience a different country/league.
09 Jul 2026 18:48:54
Just yesterday, I was thinking, what if we could get Olise and Barcola as our new wingers? Could the dream be possible?
09 Jul 2026 18:50:50
While I would love it to be true, it won't happen. I don't even think Bayern is willing to sell him.
Real Madrid was looking to bid 150 million for him, and they were laughed at, so they had to pivot to Alvarez to save some face.
09 Jul 2026 18:58:30
I don't understand the reluctance to sign him because of his stint in the Prem. With that logic, we should have never signed Salah because of how it went at Chelsea.
Olise and Yamal are arguably the best RWs in the world. Olise has matured, is experienced, and clearly developed his game.
He's performing at a high level for Bayern and France. His name gets floated around for the Ballon d'Or. The odds of him making an immediate impact for us are high compared to us signing someone like Diomande.
I don't think we'll sign him, but to treat him like he's some average player is absurd.
09 Jul 2026 19:01:20
@chewy, I saw £130 mil mentioned for Diamonde, but not seen a fee for Barcola, was more thinking Olise instead of those 2 and not the financials per-se.
09 Jul 2026 19:09:38
Cheers for the info, VG, but not buying this at all I'm afraid.
09 Jul 2026 19:19:09
Ron, you're talking rubbish as usual. Olise was a huge talent and Bayern acted first. They're a top club. Liverpool, City and Arsenal weren't signing him at that time due to players in those positions.
09 Jul 2026 20:10:37
Serious money that is.
I like him as a player. Would he fit into Iraola's way of thinking, or would Iraola find a way.
09 Jul 2026 20:17:29
Incredible footballer albeit he's had his fair share of injuries. No chance in hell that any of that's true though unfortunately. Basically a major issue with everything claimed.
09 Jul 2026 20:22:23
Truce, Salah didn't get many games for Chelsea.
Olise played a lot of games with Palace and wasn't close to winning the Balon d'Or.
He was lazy and loved a niggle. Not an Iraola player.
09 Jul 2026 21:59:10
Thank Fowler, you're not heading up the recruitment team, Ron. Clueless comments.
09 Jul 2026 22:21:36
Ron, tell me the last time a player won the Balon D'or playing for a mid table side. Your rationales are laughable. He was a top talent and is not even 25 yet, he's also been the best player at the World Cup for me. But that doesn't matter because he didn't win Balon D'ors at Palace.
09 Jul 2026 22:22:27
Who's to say we won't challenge this year? We're obviously not the favorites, but, with the new manager (er, sorry: "coach") and last year's signings properly bedded in, I think we'll be right up there. One disappointing season, and some people on here are talking like we're, all of a sudden, a mid-table club.
09 Jul 2026 23:04:07
While there were the Real Madrid rumours, Bayern said that they won't even sell for 250+ Mio. I don't see them taking less a few weeks later, with him having a good World Cup as well.
Also Bayern don't need money. They are well structured financially.
09 Jul 2026 23:42:20
Put your hands up,
Put your hands up,
Put your hands up, vicgoddamn,
We love these rumours.
Although, unfortunately, I do think you'll be walking around with your two hands upstretched like a money pretending to surrender by the time the window slams shut. Thanks for posting though. ?
10 Jul 2026 01:24:09
Pretty sure Real spoke to Bayern and said they were willing to bid the EUR200m and were told no. Not sure why Bayern would now be open to offers of EUR150-175m. ?
10 Jul 2026 01:43:11
He is very good in a dominant team in an average league. He was good, in patches, in an average team in a strong league. Assuming the alleged cost, there are a lot more better options, in my opinion.
10 Jul 2026 02:15:47
Olise is absolutely top notch with the ball, but it's a team game. There's no sure things anymore, tiny talent pool, and as good as he is, we have to learn from last season. For me, with Wirtz and Isak in the team, we need good players but also grafters.
Everyone last summer thought our big names would blow the league away but talent without the team work rate is only half the battle.
09 Jul 2026 20:49:33
Ed1 has just said he's a lazy player and that's good enough for me
10 Jul 2026 00:15:15
Ed 1, Olise- yay or nay?
{Ed001's Note - not for me, he will be amazing in the Bundesliga, but you need to be very ball dominant for him to shine really (which is why he is so good for France). There are too many games that require digging in and fighting to win in the Prem and he doesn't do that. He doesn't work hard for the team, so you have to carry him off the ball. That might be doable if you have grafters in every other position, but Isak and Ekitike are not really going to graft hard, so we then have two players out of position when we are defending. I just don't see a fit, no matter how good a player he is. If we had Firmino still up front, then I could see it working, but not without current team. We would have the same defensive issues as we had last season, with huge gaps for the opposition to stroll through.}
10 Jul 2026 08:31:46
Brahim Diaz. I doubt Real Twets would sell to us, but I think he would be great on the right for us.
10 Jul 2026 09:47:23
Ron, spot on. A massive risk.
10 Jul 2026 11:50:29
Brahim Diaz is good, but jeez, the guy rolls around more than Macca, I don't think I can deal with another one. ?
10 Jul 2026 12:21:04
ED stop speaking so much sense about how he would fit in at Liverpool, I haven't slept all night hoping and praying Victor is right don't ruin my beautiful thoughts please hahaha!
{Ed001's Note - don't worry, I don't speak sense.}
