Gapko to Spurs seems to be gathering pace. A Spurs friend of mine is adamant it’s happening soon. Do we know if this is the case? Hoping with the current market we are getting at least £60-70 mill for him.

01 Aug 2026 11:32:30
It bewilders me how, in this market, we would entertain the idea of accepting £60m for a Premier League winner who did 20+ G/A 2x seasons on the trot.

01 Aug 2026 11:33:15
With the current market going bananas, I'd want 300 mill for Gakpo.

{Ed025's Note - i hope thats Turkish Lira Strom.. :)

01 Aug 2026 11:48:33
No way we should be leaving Gakpo go, we're alright squad light.

01 Aug 2026 11:50:42
Didn't Macca say so?

01 Aug 2026 11:53:34
Gakpo is not good enough and earns way too much.

01 Aug 2026 12:00:03
The price will be effected by last season's form.
If we could get £60/£70m for him and get Barcola and Rayan, I would think we would have done ok. He is 28 this season. We signed him for £35/£44m.

He has been an ok player but nowhere near the standards set by Mane and is never going to get to that level. So better than keeping to play second fiddle to Barcola and his value going down.

01 Aug 2026 12:20:31
Regardless of his limitations, in this market, his output in terms of goals and assists should get us more than £70m.

If we can't get close to that figure, I'd keep him as we need cover in the forward areas.

As an aside, we seem to have acquired a tendency to spend high and sell low. Glad Edwards is gone and will be happy to see the back of Hughes.

01 Aug 2026 12:24:50
If we sell Gakpo, we need to buy another player on top of Barcola for squad depth. Better if it is a RW.

I don't like that we were very light on the squad last year, and we don't seem to recognize and help that.

01 Aug 2026 12:33:14
If Gordon is worth 70, then Gakpo is worth 80 at least.

This market right now is so inflated, we could ask for that and would get it.

Minteh and Rayan, who have a year or so in the prem, are quoted at 80+ so Gakpo at the same price is actually an insult.

01 Aug 2026 12:35:22
If we could swap Gakpo for Rayan in the squad, it would look a lot more balanced. Would hope that the fees for each player should be similar also, and it would lower the wage bill.

01 Aug 2026 12:35:32
If it's only based on last season's form, there is a substantial difference in price between Gakpo and Rayan.

Rayan played 4 months of PL football and is rated at over 100 mill. Yes, he's younger, but Gakpo is hardly over the hill and way more established. Not saying don't sell Gakpo, but for me he's worth more than Richarlison (60mill) and even Grealish (100 mill).

01 Aug 2026 12:43:25
Last season's form. Barcola netted 20 G/A, Gakpo netted 15 during a poor season under an ineffective manager, mind you. He might be 27, but you can't tell me he's worth half of what Barcola's worth, that's nonsense.

01 Aug 2026 12:10:38
Ed025, well the prices for rubbish players atm we might as well get it in precious Pound notes, the big green ones

{Ed025's Note - a bit unrealistic imo Strom..

01 Aug 2026 12:54:48
I would say Gordon and Gakpo are on par.
Gordon is quicker, and Gakpo has a better eye for goal.
Both have their limitations, and I would gladly take £70m for Gakpo.
I would also gladly take anything over £30m for Jones, and anything at all for Chiesa and Endo.

£110m there, and pays for Barcola.
Sell Macca for £75m too, and spend it on Sadiki from Sunderland.

Go out and buy Kounde, Fernandez Pardo, Zabarnyi for around £140m combined, and that's the only spend this summer apart from Munoz £35m.

01 Aug 2026 12:55:44
Defo need to keep hold of Gapko. Isak is the only striker we have at the moment with Etikite being injured, and as we all know Isak has a lengthy injury record.
We need Gapko to share the work with Isak.

01 Aug 2026 12:55:48
We're going for top of the market big name signings. That comes with getting less than what you're spending, for the players that you let go. Gakpo at £70m would be a fair price. If you're not selling to Bayern, Real or PSG, you just have to accept it and move on before whoever you're trying to sell's market value depreciates even more.

01 Aug 2026 12:56:19
Gakpo doesn't want to leave so I very much doubt that he will. Nor should he. He is a very good player and a valuable asset to our current forward line. If sold, I certainly believe that it will not be to Spurs. He'll have better options than that.

01 Aug 2026 12:57:55
@JK23, I think you are overlooking the age factor too much. Minteh and Rayan have suboptimal output, but the prices are due to age.

With regards to selling low, we can't actually sell that high more often than not, cos those that probably cost that high are someone we always want to keep (e.g.

Coutinho). If management sell those players even with high fees, the fans would be complaining we have no ambition lol.

01 Aug 2026 13:16:12
Take £70m all day. The Gordon comparison was spot on in my opinion. They're both limited players and their goal tallies look better than their actual ability, in my opinion. Probably because they both get a lot of minutes as strikers.

Gakpo is not a bad player at all, but he is incredibly one footed and, as a result, very predictable. Even Salah would occasionally use the outside of his left foot or go on the outside of the full back.

Gakpo always cuts inside though. Always.

He'll go and do well at Spurs or Bayern. He's just not elite and at 27 years old he should be coming into his prime, not coming off the back of a flat season. I'll get behind him if he stays, but it feels like the right time for change.

01 Aug 2026 13:35:26
Definitely think Gakpo is leaving. And it could be 63m + 7m addons.

01 Aug 2026 13:49:40
Gapko is worth 60m. He will go for around that figure, however, to Byern, not Tottenham, in my humble opinion.

And we will buy another midfielder, irrespective whether we sell Gapko or not.

If we sell Macca & Jones, expect a third midfield purchase.

It's all gathering pace. Next week will be a biggie.

01 Aug 2026 14:16:10
"Gakpo always cuts inside though. Always"

He never passed to an overlapping Kerkez either. I wonder how much of that was due to Slot though. He went down the wing a couple of times in the WC and looked a better player.

If he stays then I'm expecting a fair improvement this season.

01 Aug 2026 14:17:54
John Barnes is God. I think Gakpo will go Spurs because Bayern won't fork out the money for him unless Diaz is sold (appears unlikely based on Bayern's CEO's statements). Jones will likely go, and a new midfielder brought in. Reports have emphasised a new midfielder only in the case of a departure, which makes sense given we have quite a few bodies there and want to let Nyoni flourish.

Also, I hope you have dismissed your Diomande dream, particularly in the light of the damning reports regarding his agency situation and the fact he is halfway through the door of Madrid.

01 Aug 2026 14:35:02
Can somebody explain to me why Gakpo would want to leave his near £300k pw 5 year contract with the team who won the Premier League just 12 months ago to join a club that's barely escaped relegation 2 years on the trot? Or why Bayern would buy him when Diaz is in the form of his life?

01 Aug 2026 14:45:42
Well said, @Sikaboy, above. My thoughts, if this gathers any real steam, is the left side is crowded, but the middle will need cover until Etikite is back in 2027.

01 Aug 2026 14:59:27
The chance to get Gakpo's wages off the books will not be passed up by FSG imo.

My personal take is that his race is run at Liverpool, Iraola wants wingers with a different profile, ie those that can play on both flanks.

He has shown he is not good enough to be a back up striker, so let's be honest, when would he get a game?

Whilst Spurs are spending like lottery winners, let's take advantage and get a high earning squad player off our books.

01 Aug 2026 15:32:39
Chewy, I suspect Rio's increasing need for playing time, and the club signing another two primarily LWs in addition to that might factor into his decision.

01 Aug 2026 19:23:55
Plus Spurs will increase his wages.

01 Aug 2026 13:10:01
Ed025, of course it unrealistic, there is no such thing as green pound notes anymore.you had a late night Ed

{Ed025's Note - and thats the problem Strom, you know how much you spent mate with notes..

02 Aug 2026 00:19:07
I'd say Gordon is a more rounded player than Gakpo. At least Gordon takes people on, on the outside, and doesn't just cut inside every single time. Gordon also tends to play a bit more 'heads up' than Gakpo, and can pick a pass. 90% of the time gets his head done, cuts inside and shoots, usually being blocked.

I'm surprised Spurs want him - any reasonable defence can see him coming a mile away.

As an aside, I thought Gakpo was most effective for us the season before last playing in the CF role, where he had to vary his game.

02 Aug 2026 00:48:24
gojonesgo, Rio is a kid, and although he'll get more minutes this season, he's still second choice. Munoz, despite the rave reviews from countless posters on here who never even knew the kid existed prior to us signing him, is also second choice. I can't see anybody with half a brain leaving a £300k pw paycheck behind because there's 2 kids who play the same position with no experience on the bench.

Barcola is a LW, yes, but he's played at RW too, a position we currently need filled, and we also need somebody to cover Ekitike up front, so currently there's a need for 3 experienced senior players across the frontline, where we only have 2 available. I see no squad related reason Gakpo would want to leave, unless Iraola tells him he's not part of his plan.

02 Aug 2026 06:29:50
Perhaps Gakpo wants to start a YouTube channel as a side hustle - Diary of a CEO Holland.

02 Aug 2026 06:37:23
Whoever tried to compare Barcola's and Gakpo's stats, you forgot to mention Gakpo played 1000 minutes more than Barcola. In the current market 27y is a lot cheaper than 23. And, most importantly, Gakpo as first choice option didn't work out for Liverpool. He was good when he was interchanging with Diaz; it was unpredictable for defenders.

After Diaz left, every right back knows what he wants to do, and he is not that good to pull it off despite being too predictable.
I also think, if Gakpo stays, we are not buying RW player this summer. If he leaves, we will.
