If a choice between a 24 year old Quansah or a 28 year old Araujo next summer who would people go for?
22 Oct 2026 10:36:24
Araujo obviously.
22 Oct 2026 10:36:50
Araujo. Quansah is just not very good.
22 Oct 2026 10:58:46
Arajou 100%, its not even close.
22 Oct 2026 11:03:14
Definitely Araujo right now. I don't think Quansah is as bad as some posters have made out. However, in Jacquet we already have a CB who is 3 years younger and looks more assured than Jarrell, and if Leoni at 19 can get back to the level he showed in the 1 game he played then he has also pushed past Quansah in terms of ability and assurance.
Therefore, I think having a CB in his prime in Araujo, with 2 very promising younger ones who are also first 11 ready in Jacquet and Leoni, with Nudkwe and Ndiaye a few years younger is a really good mix.
Obviously another variable is whether VVD extends, and also injuries (esp if they are long term) so I wouldn't completely rule out us going in for Jarrell in the summer (when his buyback clause is a little lower), but if it was a straight choice between Quansah and Araujo, Araujo wins hands down right now.
22 Oct 2026 11:16:11
Araujo for sure. Really liked what he has brought to the team and when VVD does leave, it's good to have a more experienced head like him at the back who was Barcelonas captain. Our defensive lineup would be very young otherwise.
22 Oct 2026 11:28:04
Obviously a lot of things come into play. Whether Araujo wants to return to Barca, whether we sign a starting right (although both Araujo and Quansah have played nearly all their games at RB this season. Whether Virg signs on because if he does don't think either play at CB in our best 11. Quansahs homegrown and club trained which would be a big plus for him. Age would have to be a consideration too. The quoted £ 47m fee would be a lot for our club to pay for a likely back up.
Not really something we do. Whereas Quansah would still be a couple of years from even starting to come into his prime. Lets face it people have been planning Virg's replacement on here since well before he turned 30?. Wouldnt say its would be as clear cut a call as some think. Araujo would probably get the nod right now but we are building a young squad under Iraola he brings young players on massively.
22 Oct 2026 11:55:44
Araujo. The only argument for Quansah is he is English and we need more English players in the squad, but based on ability and suitability to AI tactics it is easialy Araujo. Quansah is too laissez-faire in his approach.
22 Oct 2026 12:00:09
Araujo all day. Once Virgil moves on our back line will be mainly young kids with no senior leadership. Experienced player, captained a massive club. Ideal to take over a leadership role in the defence.
22 Oct 2026 12:03:52
If a straight choice, Araujo for the simple fact he's more aggressive that Quansah. Big Ron is hungry and full of heart. We like that!
Our future CB pool is looking strong with Jacquet, Leoni, Ndukwe and Ndiaye. Jacquet seems to be extremely mature for his age and very vocal on the pitch already. Apart from Jacquet, all three of the others will qualify as home grown if they make the step up as hoped.
Keeping Virg for at least one more year and taking the option on Big Ron would do the job for managing the transition period, experience-wise. There will be plenty of buyers for Big Ron later if we want to move him on later.
If you do choose to go back into the market for a CB, then you would probably be looking for a left footer that can also do a bit of LB.
Vuskovic at Brighton has been super impressive and the big clubs will be clamouring for him in the summer. But, we are so well stocked in this department already.
22 Oct 2026 12:20:30
With Ndukwe returning from loan next year, having met the work permit requirements, the question is moot, as the club were more than impressed with his ability. The question is about Araujo and whether we think Barcelona's buy-out clause price after the loan is worth it.
IMHO, he has been quite the revelation. Much will depend on what Conor is like when he returns from his awful injury, as I think Frimpong will be moved on.
{Ed666's Note - I don’t think we sign Ronnie for the money quoted if we do sign him we’ll renegotiate
22 Oct 2026 12:22:43
No expert on this FPF but would Ndiaye not be the only one that would be homegrown? Leoni was already 18 when we signed him and Ndukwe's loan breaks his homegrown qualification I think. Agree on Vuskovic though, top player.
22 Oct 2026 12:34:35
FPF and FM, Ndiaye will be HG, and Leoni will too as he will turn 21 during his 3rd season with us. Both would qualify as U21 for a couple more years.
It's only Ndukwe who won't qualify as HG due to the necessity for him to have an overseas loan this season as a result of not getting a WP.
22 Oct 2026 12:38:43
Ron, Quansah is not good at all.
22 Oct 2026 12:42:17
Zeddicus?.
22 Oct 2026 13:39:13
Ndukwe would have 2 years with us where he doesn't have to be registered in our 25-man squad, as he would still meet the under-21 requirement. His situation would only become a problem in the 29/30 season.
22 Oct 2026 14:10:45
Ah yes, the loan will break Iffy's HG qualification. Good call, Zed.
22 Oct 2026 14:30:50
With Gomez and possibly virg leaving end of the season ndukwe coming back i'm sure ndukwe can cover Gomez (and then some ) i would expect Liverpool to target a right back (Kayode would be incredible) but links to project players like Daniel banjaqui have popped up.
Frimpong could be sacrificed if Bradley comes back and can stay fit ( if not I think theirs a possibility of both frimpong and Bradley both being sold ) and new starting right back and left back being targeted.
{Ed666's Note - I really hope we don’t pin our hopes on Bradley being our right back nothing he has done suggests to me he’s capable of making that position his. A fantastic understudy for sure but he’s no Marcus Babbel or Steve Finnan
22 Oct 2026 15:43:11
I like Araujo, he has big game experience and know how, can cover two positions and appears pretty robust injury-wise, not something we can attribute to Gomez, Bradley or Frimpong - it's an under rated quality in the modern game.
That said he's on big wages and wrong side of 27 so i think unlikely.
22 Oct 2026 16:15:39
Thats not even a debate.
22 Oct 2026 18:30:43
And yet it wouldn't surprise me if they went for Quansah at all Chewy. Personally at this moment in time I wouldn't sign either.
22 Oct 2026 20:00:53
I think Araujo is much better suited, and far more experienced, but I don't see the cub parting with £50m for him, though I think he'd be well worth it if he keeps up this form. Hopefully he has a stellar season and the club takes the option.
I heard the Quansah buyback is something like £80m, if that's true it's a hard pass. That would arguably be the worst bit of business we've done since Andy Caroll. Essentially paying Leverkusen £50m to take him on loan.
22 Oct 2026 21:05:38
Definitely attempt to sign Big Ron at a lower price. And sign a right back, move on Frimpong even at a loss. The guy is the worst LFC fullback I've seen since Paul Konchesky. I still think Kerkez will come good.
22 Oct 2026 20:43:23
I agree Ed I've seen nothing from Bradley but I think it's more to do with the lad not being able to put a run of games together. I think the talent is their he just can't showcase it and before you know it he will be in his mid 20s I don't think Liverpool will wait too much longer to fix what has become a problem position.
I agree as an understudy but for me we need to find a starting right and left full back in the next few windows as well as a few midfielders and possibly a keeper.
{Ed666's Note - I disagree mate I don’t think the talent is there to be Liverpool FC’s starting right back. Time may prove me wrong and I hope it does because he seems like a very grounded and decent person
22 Oct 2026 22:07:36
Quansah's buyback clause drops to €65m in 2027, Chewy. €80m was in 2026. If he turns into a decent CB as he ages, that is a good price, but I haven't seen it yet.
So it's a question of Araujo at 28 for €55m or Quansah at 24 for €65m.
I'd still stick with Araujo if he continues to impress and avoids injury issues - he'll still have 5-7 years at the top level left in him at that age (again, injuries notwithstanding)
{Ed666's Note - I can say with confidence we won’t pay €55 miilion for Ronald. If the player wants to sign for us and we want him we’d be fools not to renegotiate.
22 Oct 2026 23:12:08
Araujo, for me, without a doubt. After he scored that goal with the header, he jumped over the railing and into the stands. Right into the middle of 3 women standing there cheering, for the customary hugs.
Impeccable split-second decision-making. We need more of that in our play. ??.
22 Oct 2026 23:36:47
Fair point Ed0666, happy with us renegotiating for a lower fee, especially as I have a bit more faith in our current corporate team than I did in the STC. I wouldn't want to lose him as I think/hope he can develop back into a £100m+ defender given more time with us and AI.
{Ed666's Note - I’d want to see him play as centre back a lot more before I would sanction a transfer. Hes played mainly as right back
23 Oct 2026 03:19:35
It's likely Joe and possible Virgil will leave next summer. I'd keep Araujo for his experience and because he is 'up for it'. It's not that often these days that a player celebrates with the fans like he did when he scored on Tuesday. Quansah had his chance at Liverpool and he fluffed it.
23 Oct 2026 07:21:27
I'll go with the manager ? but if it was my decision it would be Araujo. Personally I wouldn't blink at the already agreed price. He's worth that money in today's market, especially with the Euro taking a dip vs the pound. Convert the money now ?.
23 Oct 2026 08:17:09
Dozens of comments and everyone is talking about Centre Backs. Do you guys realize Quansah has played as all of his six league games this season at RB for Leverkusen? And plays there for England as well?
I will not claim to have watched him a ton at Leverkusen, but he was already a good passer at Liverpool. Looking at his Leverkusen stats that seems to continue in regards to his progressive passing. And he has a highly surprising crossing accuracy across his time at Leverkusen, too. So in terms of playing out from the back he is much better than Araujo.
Quansah could be our ideal solution at RB. Whenever Bradley is fit, he can cover/rotate at Centre Back. But if we're honest, Bradley will probably have recurring injury issues throughout his carreer. So RB would be Quansahs main position. It would also allow us to get in a more offensively minded LB like Seys to rotate with Kerkez.
Quansah could be ideal for Szobo in the double pivot, too. He'd be much more comfortable inverting into DM and covering for Dom (or Gravenberch if he starts there) when he ventures forward.
And it doesn't even have to be Araujo OR Quansah. In theory you could get both and use Araujo in succession planning for the time after VVD at CB. Loan out one of Ndukwe or Leoni for as long as VVD is still here and let him gain experience. The one more ready is 4th choice instead of Gomez.
23 Oct 2026 08:33:04
Sorry for the double post, maybe one can be deleted. First time post and didn't see it at first so posted again.
To add a bit more than that one line, how about this squad for next season:
GK: Alisson, Brughmanns, Woodman
LB: Kerkez, Seys
LCB: VVD, Leoni
RCB: Jacquet, Araujo
RB: Quansah, Bradley
CDM: Mac Allister, Camara, Gravenberch, Nyoni
AM: Wirtz, Szoboszlai
LW: Barcola, Munoz
RW: Ngumoha, Minteh
ST: Isak, Ektiké
Could even be below 100m net spend if you sell some academy players on top of the likes of Gakpo, Mamardashvili and Frimpong.
23 Oct 2026 09:11:18
In fairness WDW when Araujo was the age Quansah was leaving LFC he hadn't played a lot of first team games outside Uruguay at all. What was Quansah, 22 when he left us? Young in fairness for a CB trying to come through the ranks at one of Europes biggest clubs.
Seems to have done well in Germany, Tuchel seems to like him too. If he doesn't end up back at us I'd say an Arsenal or a Chelsea will sign him up.
23 Oct 2026 13:24:47
Gomez and VVds contracts are up in the summer so there's a world we may need 2 new CBs.
Leoni is pretty much an unknown quantity at the min. We don't really know what he's like or how he we will recover.
So Araujo AND Quansah could be a possibility. I believe the buy out clauses for the 2 of them will be around £100mil combined.
23 Oct 2026 07:50:41
Ed666, there's also the issue of salary. He's on 205k per week now. If he joins permanently he will want at least his old Barca salary (250k per week) back, if not more to 300k. We already have 4-5 players at that salary level and the first or second highest salary payroll, in the league. (All thanks to your favorite 3 clowns).
{Ed666's Note - I was under the impression we’re paying his full salary mate? Either way I still don’t think we sign him for 55 million. Like I said he needs to play regularly as a centre back for us to pay top money and I just don’t see us pay good money for a limited auxiliary right back. Saying that I just love the guys attitude and so glad to see he’s apparently enjoying his football annd his time ant the club after his mental health struggles. Heartwarming!
