Sarr is 28, has played 370 career games, scored 95 goals and has 59 assists. That is with Metz, Rennes, Marseille, Watford and Palace. Played mostly RW, attacking midfielder and striker.

Gakpo is 27, has played 341 career games, scored 106 and has 74 assists.

That is with PSV and Liverpool. Played mostly lw and on the odd occasion CF or RW.

So basically we are looking at a player who is a year older but on the opposite wing with similar numbers but £25m less, but also covers Isak and has more agility and pace.

Gakpo agreed personal terms with City, and fee supposedly agreed at £85m according to Romano. Just waiting on his 'replacement', Barcola I imagine.

Surely to god we are not looking at selling Gakpo and bringing in Sarr from palace?!?! Don't even play in same position Ed? Will we be looking to bring on 2 more players if Gakpo leaves?

Ed you just aren't trying hard enough. I'll give you a chance to redeem yourself, I'm thinking of a number between 1-100 what is it?

They don't play in the position, which is exactly the point. Gakpo plays in a position we are stacked in. Sarr/Minteh favour a position we are desperate for. I'd be more worried if they were in the same position....

30 Aug 2026 00:59:30
Minteh, I can kind of understand, but Sarr? Yeah, he's good but that sort of money and older and not necessarily better than what we already have? I'd be amazed if that one happens.

Gakpo is being sold because Barcola is coming in, and despite what people on here think, he was never going to be happy to stay around, being backup CDF to Isak. A bit of jumping from a sinking ship as well. He's 27 and will have the chance of trophies at City this season, where he probably doesn't see that with us.

We can't be buying Minteh, West.

Surely if the club want him, we just pick him up in January.

Seems madness to me to buy a player for £80m who's injured for 3 months, who will need a pre season of his own, when there's a winter window?

We need players for now.

29 Aug 2026 22:28:41
Just go for Rayan, nothing else.

4

29 Aug 2026 22:59:20
Why would Bournemouth sell him now with no replacement. He should have been the main target instead of Diomande.

1

https://www.rangersrumours.co.uk/images/Ed0041.png avatar{Ed666's Note - Bournemouth will just phone up a shop in Brazil they’ll overnight them a terrific Brazilian player for cheap whom they sell for 100 million next season. It simple really.

I've given up on right wingers. We just can't seem to get one.

Just spend the money on Alvarez.

Sod it, Jeff Bezos.

29 Aug 2026 23:26:09
Yeah, but why would Liverpool sell Gakpo with no replacement?

2

29 Aug 2026 21:58:14
Let's all be honest, Gakpo was Slots love child. When he leaves we won't miss him once squad is sorted and he would never be 1st choice.

2

29 Aug 2026 22:48:59
Good squad player, he's a better Origi, but 90 plus mill bye fella and hopefully he sorts out his houses for them families he has suffering.

Anyone know the fee? Doesn't seem to say anywhere.

Clarky, how do you work that out, that Gakpo was Slot's pet? The man who signed him (Klopp) worked well with Gakpo, no?

Slot worked well with him too when we won the league, did he not?

Or could it be that it was Slot who ruined Gakpo (his love child, according to you) all of last season that Iraola is trying to fix?

If the above is the case, then again, how was Gakpo's Slot's love child when Slot possibly ruined him?

3

29 Aug 2026 23:19:21
He picked him every week, mate, no matter how crap he played. Clarky is only saying what 99% of Liverpool fans feel about it. I accept there are a minority that rate him (mainly the stats generation who ignore the same mistakes he makes over and over).

1

30 Aug 2026 00:05:35
They all played crap last season, Dougie. Who would you have picked instead? The Stepover Kid with no end product?

2

29 Aug 2026 21:51:30
We spend all summer faffing about trying to save £10-20m on Diomande first, then in Barcola. And now we will have to pay £10-£20m extra to make a last minute signing of a right winger. You couldn't make it up.

11

29 Aug 2026 22:54:44
Diomande turned us down pretty early. We paid £30 million less than PSG's asking price for Barcola, and Gakpo would have gone for about £50 million in June. It might all be worth it in the end.

One of the ITKs mentioned that if Gakpo leaves, Liverpool might push for Rayan.

How would people feel about this?

For Rayan, I will drive Gakpo to Manchester.

29 Aug 2026 22:49:34
Tent season it is. 🤣

29 Aug 2026 22:55:06
The issue we now have is who the selling clubs are going to buy.

1

29 Aug 2026 23:01:47
If and might?

29 Aug 2026 21:47:44
Just my take:

Selling Gakpo would be a mistake at this stage.
I have faith that Iraola can get Kerkez back to his best.
A draw with Forest is not our worst recent result against them or against Glasner’s teams.
This is not Iraola’s team yet, we’ll improve under him.
Be believers, not doubters.

Cheer up, we could be Spurs. 😉

I found way more positives as expected today, I'm still patiently excited for the goodness to come.
Shame majority judge this early on. 🤣 Shame on you all, this isn't Woy Hodgson, yeno, this is Dr Octopus, so be patient, and once we click, enjoy the ride that's coming, plenty of trophies.

29 Aug 2026 23:00:39
Not sure Kerkez has a best.

29 Aug 2026 23:19:24
Ron, you're positive no matter what, unfortunately you don't live in the real world. I like AI a lot and I have faith in him, but the people above him are sabotaging our club.

Iraola is facing something he rarely faced when managing Bournemouth: Teams that sit back with 9 men behind the ball, who try to punish us on the break. Klopp struggled with it. Slot struggled with it too. I reckon at least 15 of the 19 teams who come to Anfield this season will play like that. So, we better get used to it. The only way to beat it is play with tempo and try to hit them before they can get back into shape.

Players with a football brain can beat it, but we don't have too many of them. Pace around the back can beat it, so Barcola and whichever speed merchant we get on the right will be invaluable. We just need to win the ball high up and get it to them early, as Wijnaldum, Henderson, and Milner used to do for Salah and Mane.

I genuinely don't know what to say anymore.

Shifting Gakpo to a rival this late in the window and then replacing him with a 28-year-old, injury-prone dross or another 80 million downgrade who is out injured until November — is beyond belief.

It's always one step forward, two steps back with this club.

29 Aug 2026 23:24:21
Out of interest, how is Sarr injury prone? He's missed 7 games for Palace through injury in 2 years. In that time he's scored 33 goals and assisted a further 10 goals, in 92 games.

He's a good player. We'd likely get 2-3 good years out of him. I'm sure he wasn't the first choice, and he's a completely different player to Salah, but the guy scores goals.

21 last season for Palace. 12 the year before for Palace. 4 in 4 at the World Cup for Senegal.

You can never have too many goal scorers. He's only 1 year older than Gakpo, so I don't see why his age is a problem.
