Anyone else agree maybe it’s time for Nunez to go, I’ve been a massive supporter of him up until now as he always works hard but seeing the amount of chances he wastes I just feel like it’s going to come back to haunt us .
I.

I feel his work rate is not even as good.

Need signings in January. Squad is stretched.

You’re talking about the one where he slashed at it in the box? I can’t think of any other chances he missed.
Tonight wasn’t his best game but I could go through the whole team and say the same. It didn’t help that in the first half the passing was so bad we couldn’t get the ball forward.
It wasn’t our best game tonight but we stick together. We got a point and we move on. We do not start throwing people under the bus.
We don’t have a devine right to win every game and tonight Newcastle played well but we were a goalkeeping error away from 3pts. It kind of summed up our night as we were slightly off it from the start.
We move on, Everton next.

Beckers - maybe the one on the goal line he "missed" that seemed odd, cos I think he may have pulled back assuming it was going in.
Nunez is fine, yeah needs to add goals but gives us so much else. key part of the attacking group. it's not like we only have Nunez and don't have Gakpo, Diaz, Mo, Jota, Chiesa. It's a squad game right?
also, do we have to do this every game we don't win?

@faithworks yep every game. Hysterical whining. Why do people even watch football if this is the result, go grow onions or something.
04 Dec 2024 22:59:11
Exactly, Faith. Darwin could have played a lot better and it seemed the one he "missed" by a stud, messed his head up cos he spent the entire game trying to make up forward and it got worse for him.
I agree that he needed to keep his calm when things aren't going great, something he has been good at this year but tonight, I think his head just went. We're going to need all our forwards this season, whether we like it or not.

just watched it again and it does feel like he isn't fully committed to it. I remember watching live wondering how he didn't make up the space to get to the ball. He's such an instinctive player too, so was surprised he didn't just go for it.

Teams score a certain number of goals. I don't see us having a prolific number nine until our current 11 moves on. I love nunez and when you find yourself hoping he can kick on, you doubt yourself, question if you are bias and those certain type of any Carroll chants are true (great from home fans tonight huh) but upon reflection how many chances has he got really this season, for a number nine. We don't play that way whilst our wide forwards are as good as they are. Guess what, that's fine whilst it works, if salah drops off, start playing to Darwins strengths. Until a team is set up around him I'll maintain he's doing fine.

I posted something similar the other day Jesus. How often do you see two players from the same team with 20-25 goals in a season? It doesn’t happen very often.
Salah is our main goal scorer and the team is set up to allow him and the other winger to come inside and score goals. If we ask them to stay wide and set up the striker we’ll lose half of Salah’s goals.
Whilst Salah is banging them in the striker won’t be prolific. It’s not that difficult to work out.

For me it's think we have given Nunez enough time. He works hard, he's a handful for defences to mark but as a number 9 you need to score.
Isak, if he could stay fit and we could get him I'd love him to replace Nunez.
05 Dec 2024 02:42:14
2.5 seasons and bar a small spell last season he's been at best bang average. Take what you can get for him and bring someone else in. A lot of transfers don't work and that's ok, this was one of them.
05 Dec 2024 05:12:20
So if Salah leaves then Nunez doesn’t miss the chances he currently misses.
Yes that makes total sense.
05 Dec 2024 07:05:17
It’s total bull is what it is JK. Nunez hasn’t progressed one bit since he joined and we are near mid way thru his third season. He’s fortunate other forwards are bailing him out.
05 Dec 2024 07:24:20
Jk all strikers miss chances. My point was he isn't missing that many as he doesn't get set-up all that much. Our wide forwards make runs from outside into the areas a number nine ordinarily occupies. Salah tbf has got much better at assisting but you only have to look at how Diaz constantly runs with the ball at where Darwin is often stood waiting for a pass to see its not as simple as him missing chances all the time. Haaland misses 2 or three a game but they are setvup to provide 6 or 7. Watkins misses, solanke misses, etc et al. I think Darwin problem if anything is he isn't selfish enough.
05 Dec 2024 08:42:19
Jesus i like Nunez and what you're saying is correct.
But how does Nunez miss so many chances when the supposed problem is he doesn't get any chances. The two can not coexist.
Haaland misses chances and so does Salah but the fact they score 20 plus league goals a seaoson paper over those cracks.
And the fact Watkins and Solanke did last season also.
People go back to the fact that Darwin scored loads in one season 4 seasons ago isn't really a great defence.
