With Spurs and ManU well placed to make the Europa league final.

Chelsea well on their way to making the Conference league final.

There is a real possibility that 8-10 of the Premier League will be playing in Europe next season

Something something, weak premier league or something?

:D.

Agree10 Disagree0

I haven't seen anyone calling the Premier League weak to be honest with you, Faith.

What I will say is that the Europa League this season has been diluted to a farcical quality with the number of Champions League teams in many of the top leagues expanding to 5 places and there being no teams dropping from the Champions League group stages to the Europa. The Conference League is a trivial competition as the difference in quality between the top teams and most of the rest being enormous. Chelsea have been playing teams of a League One standard for most of the competition.

I just think it's mad that one of man united or spurs are likely going to be in the champions League after the season they had.

Thing is Davey, I don’t know why they’re so eager to play in the champions league, it won’t be much fun getting pelted every week for them next season!

I’d be gobsmacked if either make it out of the group stage (if they make it) . You’d think they’d rather stay in the europa and win a few games!

babbity - I'm not prescribing to that myself, but it's definitely all over social media, talk sport and other shows. just bitterness lol.

hopefully its Spurs Davey :)
the year we won in 2005, didn't they then change the rule for the next season so that the winner's were given a spot in the following season's CL?

02 May 2025 01:25:13
Also babbity - many of the top leagues don't have 5 spots as a given. it's typically 4 + 1 if you qualify for the extra spot based on league performance. This season the two extra spots went to was germany and italy, next season it will be England and spain.

It's all about money, navy Keith, it would be a disaster if either of them didn't make it given they spent in such a way that they fully expected to be in it next year.

Utd with Champions League money are still dangerous, Spurs have to do the business and keep them outa Europe altogether.

02 May 2025 07:17:14
UEFA ****ed up big time with the new format. Usually the third palce team from the CL drops into the Europa League making it a bit harder to win. Now that is gone it was a free hit for some big teams. UTD and spurs were only playing for one competition since last december.

Babbity, where have you been? That narrative has been spouted all over main and social media by pundits and rival fans alike. Did you see Richard Keyes lose his marbles last week when we won the title saying it was a weak league and proclaiming LFC would win nothing next season? Mate, let's not do that. Cos you didn't see it or cos no one told you does not mean it did not happen.

@OP, having lots of teams in Europe is no guarantee of quality UEFA (like FIFA and the FA and PL and most other football associations I’d say) are all about the money not the sport. The idea of 5 or 6 English teams in the Champions League is an oxymoron for a start. There’s ons champions of England so how does someone in 6th place and currently 22 points behind the champions deserve a spot in the Champions League? “Show me the money” eh?

You’re WDW having teams in Europe is no gauge of the quality of the league but have 4 teams in the semi finals is.

We are being told that this is the weakest Premier League for years yet the teams in 13th and 16th are good enough to have one foot in the Europa league final.

The team that is currently 15pts off the league winners is in the champions league semi final.

That tells me that the Premier league is extremely strong all the way through the league which is why the likes of City and Arsenal have dropped more points than you would normally expect. It’s impossible to dominate this league like Liverpool and City did for years, every game is a potential banana skin. Take Bournemouth, Brentford and Forest for example. Historically you’d expect to beat all of them comfortably home and away but this season you’re going into these games knowing they are capable of beating you. They all have quality players that can hurt you if you’re not on it.

We have done amazingly well to win games when we are not totally dominant. We’ve just always found a way to win or at least not lose. Something every other team in the league has really struggled with.
