Ed1 do you think rodrygo is the new target if we can’t get Isak from Newcastle with their lack of ability to sign their targets?
Also what do think the problem is for them? I mean they have been consistent in league finishes last few years, absolute great fans and atmosphere at st James…. if I was a player I’d be glad to sign for a club of newcastles stature…. the fact they have champions league also this season also. You feel Eddie Howe is holding them back?

{Ed001's Note - no. They are making internal changes at the top with Staveley and her hubby moving on and the recruitment set up was dismantled. Basically it is pretty much Howe and iirc his brother trying to sign players right now. It all feels a bit amateurish because they haven't sorted out the leadership above them.

Don't know why people say they are great fans, they were non-existent before Keegan. They are not a big club except in their own minds, in an area no one really wants to live. They have no pulling power as they can't even throw cash at it due to PSR rules. They can't build into a big club without investment but the rules are preventing them from doing it.}

They need to invest in the training ground, it’s shocking. Remember the video of Tonali being shown around and it looks like it’s for port vale in the 2000’s.

{Ed001's Note - exactly. Until that is done, they are going to struggle to get top class players to show any interest. Things like that actually make a difference, they make a player feel like the club is going places if the facilities are top notch.}

Haha I love that brutal put-down, Ed. I find it hilarious how Talksport this summer is full of Newcastle and Villa fans calling in crying, "it's not fair! How are we supposed to compete? Our owners are really rich and can't spend the money! " You would think they'd earned the money themselves. It's completely lost on them that it was ridiculously unfair when some oligarch could buy any random club and completely skew the transfer market with their spending. The only reason City, Chelsea and PSG are elite clubs is because some oligarchs happened to buy those clubs. How is that fair to fans of other clubs?

The structure at Newcastle at exec level is shocking, Howe is having to focus on multiple tasks he shouldn't have to be doing. Doesn't exactly give the look of a club that is on the up.

NUFC about as attractive as a prozzy with crabs.

31 Jul 2025 15:27:37
Crazy, didn’t know much about newcastles history but they have won 4 division 1 (old prem) titles and 6 FA cups and it all pre dates 1966. With 1 carabao cup coming in 2024. That’s nuts.

Sorry not doing them justice there, they did win the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in season 68-69 and the reputable UEFA Intertoto Cup in 06

So I’m not sure fan base alone and the cold North east really has that much pull.

31 Jul 2025 15:41:22
Is it really that grim up in Newcastle? Never been up there, but living in Manchester area…. surely is it still bad.

{Ed025's Note - i think its great Magico..

31 Jul 2025 15:43:33
Ed001, that's a bit harsh on Newcastle fans but I also don't get people going overboard about them.
They have passionate fans but every club does. They might have more than most but Newcastle is bigger than most other towns and cities in the country. Another thing is that Newcastle is the only club in the city whereas a lot of others have at least two.
Them being great fans is a bit of a myth, for me.

{Ed001's Note - so what's harsh about what I said? You pretty much agreed with me.}

31 Jul 2025 15:45:34
A one-club city as well, you live in Newcastle, you support Newcastle, no other clubs to compete against like most big cities.

31 Jul 2025 15:55:53
Ed001, I think it was harsh to say the fans were non existent before Keegan and that nobody wants to live there.

{Ed001's Note - they were getting small gates before Keegan, the two seasons prior to Keegan's arrival they averaged less than 17k and then 21k. There were away games where hardly anyone travelled (iirc it was a Mansfield game that is the argument starter for their fans as less than 500 turned up, but they all claim they were there). They were in real trouble, which is why they hired a big name manager in Keegan.

As for nobody wants to live there, how is that harsh? They have to tell players how close it is to commute to other places. They couldn't even get Owen to sign for them without allowing him to helicopter in for training every day from Cheshire. Players simply do not want to live in that area.}

31 Jul 2025 16:35:27
Ed001, I think what you said was a bit harsh. You have given a few examples but that doesn't mean that Newcastle fans were non existent before Keegan became manager or that players simply do not want to live in that area. They are gross exaggerations, imo.
I remember a huge Newcastle following at Anfield in an FA Cup tie in 1984. Keegan played but wasn't manager. Newcastle's record crowd is well before Keegan was manager.
Alan Shearer was the world record transfer when he joined Newcastle.
He was already familiar with the area and fully prepared to live there.

{Ed001's Note - why do I bother? You still just haven't done anything to dispel my point that they are only interested in big names. Oh yes, of course, Shearer proves your point completely, how could I forget, one player receiving a world record fee and salary to go there means they all want to live there. I mean it wasn't like he was quick to leave the area as a kid or anything was it? Actually just forget I even spoke, I am done. What's the point? Even when you agree you are too disagreeable to do anything other than argue.}

31 Jul 2025 16:55:34
They have a point Babity. Newcastle have money but can’t spend legally. Chelsea are laughing their arse at FA. Aston Villa recently sold their women’s team to comply PSR.

31 Jul 2025 17:07:33
When players like Sesko and Ekitike were young lads Newcastle would have been in the Chamionship or Mid-Table add to that everything that's been said and it doesn't look attractive if another more prestigious club is also interested. FC Frieberg finished 5th in the Bundesliga. Now, if they were interested in you as a player and Dortmund also came along it would be an easy choice.

31 Jul 2025 17:19:46
London, Everton have also follow suit and sold the women's team to within under the reasoning that it will allow external revenue to be injected and hence improve the women's team. nothing to do at all with acting as profit for PSR reasons.

31 Jul 2025 18:41:01
I always thought the Michael Owen helicopter thing was a running joke, going to training like an eccentric lord of the manor must have ruffled a few feathers!

31 Jul 2025 19:27:11
London_Red the issue with Chelsea and women's teams is an issue with loopholes, not with the principle of PSR itself. PSR has teething problems which need to be tightened up but Newcastle fans don't have a point in whinging about having money they can't spend because they only have that money because they're owned by a state.

On a separate note, buying Newcastle was a dreadful purchase by the Saudis. PSR aside, there was always much more growth potential with Chelsea and City. They would have been better buying a minority stake in us and gradually increasing it over time.

31 Jul 2025 19:49:04
Kiloforme, Kyle Walker would walk bare foot over burning coals, broken glass and Lego bricks to get to a prozzie with mechanical dandruff. He loves a bit of brass ass.

31 Jul 2025 23:17:49
Ernest, Michael Owen had a house in Newcastle. He didn't helicopter into training every day from Cheshire.

I wonder if this post gets past the Ed ?.
