Morning Ed’s, do you guys believe we legitimately go in for wirtz or do you think it’s PR from the players side or a genuine potential for a big move while still recruiting for other areas?
{Ed001's Note - we are trying to make it happen.}
1.) 22 May 2025 10:41:11
Apparently Alonso has demanded that Madrid sign him.
2.) 22 May 2025 10:39:15
Sounds like it’s going to happen too.
3.) 22 May 2025 10:28:50
And your gut feeling Ed, if you will.
{Ed001's Note - my gut feeling is that I think I ate too many eggs yesterday.}
4.) 22 May 2025 11:18:47
I am 50-50 on it at the moment. Which is much more positive than I was a few days ago.
5.) 22 May 2025 11:01:30
I’ve had salmonella the last week Ed, I know your struggle!
{Ed001's Note - sorry to hear that mate! I remember when salmonella was a big problem in eggs when I was a kid. It meant the price of eggs dropped, which meant that my parents basically just bought eggs for months, as they were so cheap. I hated eggs for years after that!}
6.) 22 May 2025 11:11:15
Don’t say anything to jinx it Ed.
{Ed001's Note - that's what I am afraid of.}
7.) 22 May 2025 11:11:50
Certainly is an interesting one ed001 mate…
Wirtz that is, not your tummy lol .
It always seems when we get linked with big names like this and it’s making daily headlines, it never materialises, but we’ll see. For me it’s what the player wants, and if he wants to play for us it makes a big difference on how we approach the situation.
Cheers
Drogie.
{Ed001's Note - fingers crossed mate.}
8.) 22 May 2025 12:06:29
I’ve only wanted two specific players to join before they were even linked in the past. Those two were firmino and Fabinho. I’ve felt the same way about wirtz for the last couple of years. I’m praying the luck continues and he actually signs. Unbelievable player.
9.) 22 May 2025 13:25:49
You know why City back away Ed? A lot of journalists saying the cost is too high for them. That sound ridiculous to me considering how they were spending money nonstop for the past few years. I don't think there is any price that is "too high" for them.
{Ed001's Note - he is not keen on the move to City apparently. Not sure why. Maybe he is worried as they seem a bit of a mess at the moment. I don't know. I do know he nearly joined us a few years back, but a move fell through, and apparently is still keen.}
10.) 22 May 2025 13:30:00
I think we all know, deep down, it’s not going to happen. It’s the hope that gets you! lol.
11.) 22 May 2025 13:59:41
What would be funny is if Ten Hag (new Bayer Leverkusen manager) sells Wirtz to us as a double whammy to Man Utd and Bayern.
12.) 22 May 2025 15:12:15
I think he'll join us, they won't want to sell him to Bayern so I really don't see it happening. I think we'll sign him. He'll be our big signing of the summer.
Imagine him with this team? The league will fear us even more next season with him and a few more quality additions, as will Europe.
13.) 22 May 2025 15:38:15
Love the positivity Salah. We can dream!
Imagine Wirtz, Macca, gakpo, szob, Salah, Diaz, grav, maybe a new striker too.
So much pace power, technique and quality.
Incredible.
We pray ?.
14.) 22 May 2025 16:54:52
I’m sure they won’t want sell to Bayern but ultimately if that’s where the player wants to go (don’t know if he does) then I’m sure that’s where he will go. The player has all the power now.
15.) 22 May 2025 17:05:57
Have they really appointed Ten Hag? All the team will want out soon enough, poor choice from them.
09 Nov 2024 17:42:10
Was it Jorg schmadtke who advised FSG to go after Slot? There were reports of it back in summer of 23” when they were discussing potential successors. Just curious as to who was behind the mastermind decision that it was.
1.) 09 Nov 2024 17:47:47
It was ed2.
2.) 09 Nov 2024 18:30:43
I don’t think Ed02 advises the club @Aoe. Ed02 was saying Arne was very good and that it would be wise of Liverpool to hire him but it was somebody else who would have had the club’s ear.
3.) 09 Nov 2024 19:48:05
LFC's internal information and modeling systems advised whoever went after Slot.
4.) 09 Nov 2024 19:52:58
It definitely wasn’t ed002 because ed002 denied the advisor was a rodeo clown.
5.) 09 Nov 2024 20:39:09
Salahaoe I think that joke went right over WDW’s head mate.
6.) 10 Nov 2024 00:16:17
No bother sid19. My humour is an aquired taste. He is spot on that ed2 did mention slot long before anyone was linked. So bonus points for the info wdw. Now ron keague’s theory on rodeo clowns doesn’t sit with me at all. Its exactly what an advisor would say.
7.) 10 Nov 2024 01:12:26
It did - to be fair it was very early Sunday morning where I am and I was trying to baby sit two granddaughters who were having a sleepover (aged 4 and 6).
8.) 10 Nov 2024 08:56:48
Sounds like the perfect morning mate.
9.) 10 Nov 2024 11:19:26
I'm amazed you found the energy to post WDW. I have 2 grandsons of very similar ages and a few hours with them leaves me needing a holiday. Absolutely relentless high octane stuff, borderline hyperactivity. Being in 2 places at once is a minimum requirement in coping with their demands.
10.) 10 Nov 2024 13:02:54
It was me who advised us to go after Arne, right ed01?!
{Ed001's Note - er no.}
11.) 11 Nov 2024 16:50:48
I think it was John W. Henry who made the final decision to hire Arne Slot after reviewing tons of data amongst other attributes such as personality, experience etc.
Henry is very, very analytical. It was what was influential whittling it down to 2 candidates last time: Jurgen Klopp or Carlo Ancelotti.
12.) 13 Nov 2024 20:07:07
Sorry lad's BUT I'm the No1 advisor at the club?.
{Ed025's Note - i wouldn,t doubt that for one minute Barry mate..
13.) 13 Nov 2024 20:33:28
Thank you Ed025 hope you're all good? I really can't see Coote coming back from this. A referee is always meant to be impartial no matter what. Unfortunately nowadays IMO there isn't a decent ref out there. There was a ref in the 80's whom I thought was brilliant I must find his name and post it here Ed025 and see if you remember him.
{Ed025's Note - the standard is very poor Barry, i hope you and the family are well mate..
14.) 13 Nov 2024 20:49:09
Family all good thank God Billy. I remember Ray Lewis and Joe Worrel mate as decent refs.
{Ed025's Note - there have been a few good ones over the years Barry but the standard has really gone down the pan over the last few years mate, for me it coincided with the introduction of VAR and the referees using it as a crutch as any mistakes will be overturned at Stockley Park...supposedly..
15.) 13 Nov 2024 21:35:40
100% agree mate either VAR or just plain old refereeing the standard for both is shocking.
02 Oct 2024 08:52:30
Eds do you know of any strikers we have a genuine interest in? Not completely convinced in the ones we have at the club right now in terms of injuries/ inconsistencies.
{Ed002's Note - No, and it is not the priority.}
1.) 02 Oct 2024 11:30:34
We have every rival looking enviously on our front 6 and the firepower we have and we're here asking for more. It's so weird.
As Macca highlighted in the presser yesterday, we now have a coach who is working on patterns of play. Let the man work and see how this benefits the forwards even more.
2.) 02 Oct 2024 13:21:51
Cheers ed, not sure how it’s a weird question as we don’t have 6 strikers and I wasn’t asking asking after left or right wingers, just specifically strikers.
3.) 02 Oct 2024 15:28:16
It’s not weird Murfo, it’s a valid question and I agree that Nunez will continue to frustrate the fan base with his inconsistency and Salah I believe will move to the KSA next summer.
Immediately you think there are definitely 2 places to fill imminently and I would be surprised if the club was not looking at the likes of Sesko, or Simons and a Salah replacement, I believe Ed002 said the club are actively seeking a Salah replacement. I still think there are 4-5 signings to come in the next two windows.
{Ed002's Note - Neither Sesko or Simons have been considered as options.}
4.) 02 Oct 2024 19:24:20
The glaring hole is DM/ CM. We're well covered everywhere else.
It will be interesting to see if Nyoni and Morton get game time but I'm still expecting a new arrival in January.
5.) 02 Oct 2024 23:29:58
I'd like us to sign Jhon Duran if it doesn't work out with Nunez this season. I agree we need another Dm option but I don't have a suggestion for that role unless Zubimendi has a change of heart. I read somewhere that Bajcetic had been fined and dropped for Salzburgs champions league game for missing training sessions. If true then he's looking less and less likely to be what we hoped he would.
6.) 03 Oct 2024 01:22:11
We’ve conceded 3 goals in 9 games, that’s 1 goal in every 4 and a half hours again not PL and CL opposition. With Slot setting the team up slightly different to Klopp we seem to want more ‘complete’ midfielders, so I’m not sure about the out and out DCM requirement. On the rare occasions we might need one we have Endo as our primary ‘go to’ nan with Baj, presumably, coming back next season. I don’t see the sense in spending £50m+ on someone who might play less than a third of our games. I’d say we want a complete CM rather than a DCM.
7.) 02 Oct 2024 21:29:28
Eds, rather than asking about updates on progress in contract negotiations of VVD/ TAA/ MS, have you any insight into the level of apprehension inside the club that they will not re-sign? Is there a level of acceptance that they will not, and the club have plans in place for that eventuality?
{Ed002's Note - The club have players they are considering if any were to run their contracts down and leave and will continue to look at others.}
8.) 03 Oct 2024 09:41:12
Red-Will-is-1, I read that he was fined for coming late to training due to him misplacing his boots, not that he missed training totally. It's also unclear if him dropping to the bench for their CL game is tactical or due to discipline issues. He still played about 15mins in the second-half of the game though so I'm guessing that it was more tactical. Nonetheless, this issue of punctuality has been an issue, even when he was with us, so it may be a cause of concern.
9.) 03 Oct 2024 10:48:06
I just don't see Nunez coming good. For all of his moments of brilliance, there are far more breakdowns of play or misses.
You can't teach intelligence and patience.
The writing is on the wall for Nunez IMO.
10.) 03 Oct 2024 15:46:40
Duran would be a very good signing I remember being linked to him loads when he was still playing in the usa. Mbeumo I think is the most Liverpool style forward I’ve seen in a long time I’d pay big money for him.
11.) 03 Oct 2024 20:15:28
Hello Vango, nicely stated as ye can lead a horse to water but ye can't make it drink it sadly. One solution could be what Sir Bob said to Rush when he first started in the first team and could not score for love nor money in his first six games, like a fish out of water!
Sir Bob could see that Rushie would lay it off inside the penalty box, so he took Rushie aside and said to him "if ye inside the penalty box, and you don't know what to do with the ball, just stick it in the back of the net, and we will discuss ye options after the game" in other words shoot on sight and don't think about it, just do it naturally, and the rest was history!
I read all soccer autobiographies and got all the above from going to the Library, this was in Sir Bobs and Rushies.
Do you know how Rushie played the offside rule? it was very, very simple he said in his book "if I could see the defenders number on his shirt, and he could not see my number nine shirt, I knew I was in business! as simply the centre half would be in front of him i. e. crosses etc, when I could not see the defenders number on his shirt, but he could see mine I was probably offside! I get castigated for relaying autobiographies, but the football knowledge and football acumen is so, so true and always will be in any era.
12.) 05 Oct 2024 09:23:24
You can teach players to time their runs, it just needs repetition to reinforce the message.
27 Jun 2024 16:43:26
Looking for any update on players the Ed’s see as realistic transfer targets for us. I know you will have covered it and I’m happy to search if you could give me the right prompt. bored of all the paper gossip, just looking for solid info on who we’re actually likely to go for. Cheers Ed’s for all the work you do, must get stressful this time of year so much appreciated.
{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any changes to what I have previously said.}
24 Apr 2024 18:18:35
Are we interested in either Bowen or Gimenez?
1.) 24 Apr 2024 22:13:13
I think we’re interested in anyone who could hit a bulls backside with a banjo at the moment.
2.) 24 Apr 2024 23:18:52
Bowen is too old. Edwards won’t sign off on that one.
3.) 25 Apr 2024 10:12:11
He’s 27 - you think a number makes a person too old - that’s (one of) your issues. There’s no indication that the club want to sign Bowen but to ascribe your opinion as the motive for Edwards doing anything is inaccurate, at best.

Ed’s what’s your take on Viktor Gyökeres? When you’ve had Darwin from the same league and it hasn’t worked for I get why some would be hesitant. What I do like about him is quite simple:-
He scored 40 goals and had 14 assists across all comps this season
He’s powerful, mobile, and a pressing forward. For me that’s exactly what you want in a Slot or Klopp-style system.
He thrives in transition and structured pressing, something Liverpool’s system is built around.
He’s not just a finisher — his hold-up play and link-up has improved massivel.
{Ed001's Note - his big issue is lack of mobility, that is why teams have looked away from him in the past - he is not quick. If you are a team looking for pace in behind, he is not the player for you. A bit like Kane really, in fact he is like a cheaper Kane.}
1.) 30 May 2025 11:37:12
Agree Ed001. Gyokeres is pretty fast in a straight line once at top speed but he runs like a typical CB; he's slow off the mark and slow changing direction. He's also got a very heavy touch. I think he'll struggle to replicate his form in the Premier League. I'm sure he'll score goals, but nothing like as many.
2.) 30 May 2025 11:42:11
Kane scored a hatfull of goals. We need goals. I'd take him. Very few quality goal scorers on the market right now.
3.) 30 May 2025 11:43:30
I've watched a hell of a lot of him this season. definitely wouldn't say he was slow. But then I wouldn't say he was quick either.
He's a great finisher, likes to carry the ball, quite strong and can ride challenges to bundle his way through defenders.
The only question is whether he will be afforded as much time and space to do all these things to make the most of his finishing ability in the PL. The majority of defenders in Liga Portugal are awful, although he does perform reasonably well in Europe, for Sweden, and against the bigger teams in Portugal (Benfica, Porto) whose defences are a bit stronger.
Might be worth a go at ~50m if Slot wants a traditional #9, and other options are unaffordable (Sesko/ Ekitike etc. being valued at 100m) .
4.) 30 May 2025 11:45:39
Nie one, Ed01. I confess that I have only seen him play for like a half vs Club Brugge in the CL this season and everything is built around him, just like it was with Darwin at Benfica. Our system is built around Salah, a wide player so there's a huge diff. from the off.
Also, Gyokeres seems to drop deep sometimes (as deep as Bobbie, btw) into his own half to link up and relieve pressure esp. after a set piece has been defended and like you said, his lack of pace showed as he couldn't get a way from his markers as fast as say, a Cody, Darwin or Salah would have. That's all I got from the little I have seen of him.
Maybe that's why he doesn't suit the way we play cos we try to get in behind whenever the chance is presented with rapid forwards we have.
5.) 30 May 2025 11:47:08
Ed
Given we appear to play a more controlled game now - think he could suit us?
We play more slowly than under Klopp I would say and when we get into the box the opposition have largely packed it out
Having more of a “presence” could be ideal.
6.) 30 May 2025 11:54:54
I don’t think he’s particularly good in the air either, which seems to be a bit of a disappointment for someone of his build.
{Ed001's Note - I can honestly say I have never seen him even attempt to head the ball to judge his aerial ability.}
7.) 30 May 2025 12:47:24
All valid points guys, just wasn’t sure why we weren't being linked more heavily, it’s a mad one because on one hand you’ve got a proven goal scorer, granted in a weaker league and like I say you only have to look at what’s happend with Nunez and the hype around him at first but gyokeres has played in England and he should settle, he’s strong so don’t think he will have an issue in the prem.
The alternatives are also unproven, maybe with a higher ceiling, personally I’d love nothing more than Isak but some how don’t see all the pieces fitting for this one but fingers crossed I’m wrong.
8.) 30 May 2025 14:54:01
All that insight from 1 half of football Oli ?.
28 May 2025 15:29:39
{Ed's Note - Murfo90 has posted a new article entitled, Is Slot building Feyenoord 2.0 at Liverpool FC?
27 May 2025 13:05:13
Murfo90 has written an article entitled, Is Arne Slot building a Feyenoord 2.0 Premier League Edition At Liverpool FC?
1.) 27 May 2025 13:50:17
Good summary of potential business Murfo. I never saw much of Feyenoord under Slot. Spoke to a few Dutch people on social media to get an idea of his tactics but no two fans have the same answer and I think Slot’s first season at Liverpool explained why. He’s much more adaptable than Klopp was. It’s more akin to when Rodgers had us swapping from 4-3-3, to 4-1-2-1-2 then to 3-4-3. Only Rodgers never seemed to know what he was doing and Slot’s tweaks are more subtle than a whole formation change. Can see why people disagree on how he likes to play though. I think that’s the main thing he’ll want to replicate from his Feyenoord team; the ability to seamlessly tweak the tactics due to having a squad of versatile players.
Regarding the players you listed, good options. Frimpong and Wirtz look likely to be done this week, Kerkez will probably follow not long after as well. Then it will likely come down to finding a Nunez replacement. Gyokeres is clearly a good striker, as you don’t score than many in any league unless you have something about you. My concerns would be around his heavy touch. The Premier League is not as forgiving of players with loose control, as Nunez has found out. As goal scorer and athlete though, he does look a menace.
Thanks for the good read, it’s been a hard day for Liverpool fans but a nice positive piece like this will hopefully lift the spirits on top of the news everyone is making good progress in the hospital.
2.) 27 May 2025 14:38:50
Cheers MK, appreciate the feedback brother and agree with what you’ve said here also. If reading positives helps people during a difficult time I’m all for it.
I know this site has helped me during hard times in my life even if only as a distraction and the Ed’s deserve so much credit for giving us this platform for free speech and open discussion. I think they do an amazing job at filtering out the riff raff, so hats off too all you Ed’s who keep this site going year in year out, it doesn’t go unnoticed and you deserve all the plaudits as it’s not easy to keep a site like this running but I appreciate all your knowledge, jokes, banter and resilience ?
We love this club that’s why we’re all here every single day. Also shout out to all the posters for keeping it fresh and engaging ?.
3.) 27 May 2025 15:16:40
Nice, Murfo. Glad to know our daily lives just talking smack about football and LFC has an impact on you as a person so really glad to hear.
Now regarding your points, I agree with a lot that you have posted. Like MKS, I never saw Feyenoord play BUT I have seen some guys on SM who saw Feyenoord play and they said Slot was the real deal. Regarding player comparisons and acquisitions, we have upgrades all over the pitch and with Wirtz hopefully coming in, he will add a lot to the team creatively.
The kid is absolutely incredible (saw him play a few times last season) and if someone had told me even 3 weeks ago that we would get him, I definitely wouldn't have believed mainly cos I didn't believe he would come to us with all the options he would have. Exciting times, indeed.
26 May 2025 20:45:05
Hope everyone’s good after what’s happend in town ?.
1.) 26 May 2025 21:11:10
I hope everyone that was going from here is safe, along with their families.
Horrid end to a day of celebration.
The news is going to be toxic for a bit.
2.) 26 May 2025 21:20:39
I’m so horrified. Thinking of anyone out there tonight.
13 May 2025 16:33:31
Ed’s or fans, not sure on this tactically but do you see a world where salah plays more centrally for us if we bring in frimpong. So use him as a RW and give salah a rest, AFCON, use salah more centrally on occasion and also drop in and cover for Bradley (even though many say his defensive game isn’t the best) the reason I ask is because I don’t actually know why else we would go for frimpong and if I’m honest my tactical understanding isn’t the best, just curious.
{Ed001's Note - he gives more options. Options to rest Salah, someone to cover for Afcon and to play right back too.}
1.) 13 May 2025 16:50:41
Hopefully we never have to play Salah down the middle. Fingers crossed we buy a centre forward who understands the offside rule and who also can play 3 games on the spin without getting injured.
2.) 13 May 2025 16:51:10
At £30m he is a steal, covers multiple positions as Ed said and apparently his release clause is payable over 4 payments.
3.) 13 May 2025 17:01:32
De já vi, I asked the exact same question a couple of weeks ago. Great minds.
4.) 13 May 2025 17:17:57
He’ll replace Trent at right back. It would’ve been Bradley but he’s been injured for 2 years ?.
5.) 13 May 2025 19:53:41
The pass for the opening goal at the weekend saw Salah dropping deeper to play the crucial ball. I think that will happen a lot next season.
6.) 13 May 2025 21:50:03
Nunez's biggest problem is he was "Born Offside".
26 May 2025 12:49:32
Think a few on here need some air nourishment ?.
24 May 2025 12:48:56
Everyone saying Elliott to leave so could it be him? Get him playing in his preferred position? Good enough I’m not sure but looking like we’ve been putting the feelers out for potential suitors. Dunno, im sure others will tell me how wrong I am but I’m here for it ?.
22 May 2025 15:36:14
Dunno dom mate, I heard Bowie was the star man but was under pressure so they had to make changes.
21 May 2025 15:54:46
Jamie’s got connections at Liverpool hasn’t he so it’s come from high up ??.
16 May 2025 10:27:38
Nice one for the update Jamie ?.
30 May 2025 12:47:24

I’ve got an idea. instead of Ed shutting the site down to show solidarity, why don’t you show solidarity by not coming on the site for the weekend ??♂️ win win for all.
27 May 2025 14:38:50

26 May 2025 07:52:11
I think he was trying out grav dropping into defence and dom dropping into gravs position but this will work better when using frimpong, kerkez and wirtz. He was testing it at the Brighton game also but this is the best time to try things because the league was already wrapped up ?.
24 May 2025 22:30:24
Reckon he could nutmeg a mermaid? ?.
{Ed025's Note - love it Murf..
