Hi Ed001, other posters.
Wanted to get thoughts on Jones and Elliot. Turning into a great window and exciting times.
I think our midfield is pretty set for next year, with only really the question on who might leave. Widely reported that this is likely to be Elliot with Jones being preferred but I was wondering do you and others think this is a good move?
Iv always liked Jones and defended him. Solid, steady, can play many positions and is capable of little magic moments of not consistently, but I can't help shaking the feeling if one of him or Elliot had to leave, I would rather keep hold of Elliot?
Jones has injury issues and always flitted in and out of the squad, whilst peak Elliot was a first teamer under Klopp. I also think Elliot has a higher ceiling.
What do people think? Why does Slot prefer Jones to Elliot? Personally I'd like to move on Endo and keep them both as they obviously love the club and want to stay?
I don't know.

{Ed001's Note - I love Elliott, but he is young and needs to play games to progress, so I think he needs to move out for a season on loan, at the very least.}

I think if you could combine Jones and Elliott perfect Midfielder.
Some doubt Jones but he does have everything to be a great midfielder he just doesn’t seem to learn to release the ball first time got to hold on to it far too long.
Elliott on the other hand understanding is already there it is just pure his physicality not strong enough and big enough for cm or fast enough for a wide attacker at the very top teams.
Both will have very good careers with Elliott having the better football brain but in the premier league I think Jones is better for us because physically
So much better.
I think Elliott should move to Spain or Germany where he would be outstanding there.

Jones should be vice captain there’s no one better suited.

I disagree Grino I’d say Jones has a much better football brain than Elliott. Elliott is more technically gifted on the ball but he runs around like a headless chicken without the ball and has no idea where to be on the pitch.

Neither are blessed with great pace but Jones’s better football brain means his lack of pace doesn’t affect him as much as Elliott.

Elliott has to just be allowed to play with no defensive responsibility because he has absolutely zero idea how to defend, track runners or tackle. In fact off the ball he’s an empty shirt.

Jones’s biggest problem is he too often hesitant on the ball. He often waits until a player is on top of him before trying to do anything with it and then backs his ability to hold onto the ball under pressure until he loses it. When he does it quickly he’s a very good player. He can go past a man, he can tackle, he arrives late in the box and can score and assist.

Of the two players, Jones is just far more effective than Elliott in pretty much every aspect of his game. Elliott can look better on the eye but Jones just has more of a positive effect on a game. Most games just pass Elliott by with him having much involvement.

Neither are good enough to be first 11 players but Elliot makes a bigger difference when he comes on as sub.

The history books will show that Wirtz's first every goal for LFC, in a friendly against some Japanese team, was made and assisted by. Curtis Jones. If you're not sure what he brings to the team, check it out.

We need to keep Jones as the scouser in the team.
nah jokes lol but seriously, I think we keep Jones as part of the midfield group.

for me, Jones has all the tools to play 8 or 10 in our midfield and over the course of the season will definitely make his contribution off the bench and/ or starting. It's a squad game these days

With Elliot, I really hope he is a part of our future. It just seems like his time isn't right now and he needs a bigger platform. IF he wanted to stay and be a squad player then I would happily keep him.

In this case I'd make our decision based on what Elliot wants. If he feels he needs to leave, then I'd hope we can do a Courtois-style long term loan. or at the least a sale with buy back clause.

Don’t like neither of them to be bloody honest you know?

31 Jul 2025 22:46:02
I actually really like both of them, as people and players. I just think they're both very unfortunate that right now, they're a level below the first XI, and probably another 1 or 2 squad players. I think if either had come through at any other period where we weren't at our peak as we are now, they'd be close to being some of the first names on the teamsheet. Maybe a successful loan for Elliot may change his future chances, but I can't see Jones being any better than 5th choice in the midfield sadly.

Jones shouldn’t be vice captain, he’s not good enough to be a starter. Vice captain has to be a starter, and some level of seniority, so Salah is the easy choice,

Jones simply doesn’t work hard enough for me, he has more indifferent or poor games than good ones. Doesn’t get stuck in when he’s playing midfield and switches off at vital moments. To me he’s not improved in any tangible way since breaking through.

Elliot is older than Wirtz so no longer a youth player as such. Id love him to stay but, unless he's happy to be a squad player, its time he moved on for the sake of his career.

Peak Elliott never really peaked, did he now?

01 Aug 2025 00:56:55
Is Jones and Elliott combined Jolliott or Elliones?

01 Aug 2025 01:18:08
Don’t be daft Viktor, jones gets stuck in. And as for being a starter wasn’t milly vice captain and sub?

Some really emotional Tampax fans on here.

Slot selects Curtis as often as not. Slot selects Elliott for EFL and FA Cup games. Hands up if you want to play spot the difference.

Where would you like to see him on loan ed?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know, somewhere in the Prem he would play regularly and that would work on his physicality and defensive acumen. Maybe one of the promoted sides would be ideal?}
