This talk of Guehi in Jan as a must. Does he even want to come to us in Jan?
I’m always cautious of making long term move to fill a short term gap but acknowledge we like have a Konate sized gap to fill as well. So may a bit of over-stocking at CB for half a season like when we bought Diaz perhaps.

We wanted him this past window even with Leoni available. It wouldn't be a stop gap just a delay on our original intentions.

Guehi isn’t a Steven caulker panic buy he is someone the club wanted anyway and would probably bring in the next summer so makes sense to get in Jan if possible.

Paul Joyce reported yesterday the club have no intention of paying a fee for him and want him on a free.
Suppose if the summer taught us anything it’s journalists are just as not in the know as us though.

Its alright not intending to pay a fee for him when you have four fit defenders. Were an injury to a CB away from the same two having to play every game between now and January. Pay the £15-20m it'll take to get Guehi in the New Year.

If Konate is expected to leave for Real, they might bring forward plans to replace him in Jan. Especially, if Joe G will also leave next summer (contract up? ) .
But it might not be Guehi. FSG like to get value for money and spending 15m in Jan when he's available on a free in the summer is not their strategy. But I do think he'll be with us next season
I wouldn't be surprised if they've got someone else on their list. Debast has been mentioned to be on their radar.

He was mid medical when Parish pulled the plug. Why would anyone question that he wants to come to us?
He had also waited for us until the end of the window. Do you think we were the only interested team in the summer? Of course we weren’t but he turned all the others down to come to us.
His mind is made up and he’ll sign in January.

You could pay £15 - £20m for an experienced premier league defender in Guehi, £20-£30m for a prospect or £50m+ for an established defender.
Guehi makes the most sense IF we are buying in January.

Why is it bad value for money if it's a player we want for the long term and he is available for less than we would have paid in the summer? I'm assuming palace need to get a move on now trying to find a replacement beforehand though.

Would he even be first choice if he wasn't hg English. I doubt it. I'd prefer Bastoni for 100m.

Only issue is would Palace sell in January or would they rather keep until the end of the season to see if they can win one of the cup comps, FA, Carabou or the European one they are in.
I have no doubt that’s the player we are looking to get January but I worry Palace may think it’s more beneficial keeping him until the end of season, in hope of winning another cup.

it is plausible that if we are aware Konate is leaving we move for his replacement in January rather than the summer window. But as we know the winter window is a harder period to make transfers than the summer one.

Who’s to say they will sell because they don’t have to do anything. Yes the will lose him for free in the summer but that mite be there plan now.
