{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, Manchester City v Liverpool - A Quick Liverpool Perspective
12 Nov 2025 07:49:57
You did a review! A glutton for punishment. Not sure I can even force myself to read it, we were that bad ?.
12 Nov 2025 07:57:40
Thanks for that Ed. An honest and true summary of the game.
{Ed001's Note - very welcome.}
12 Nov 2025 07:57:49
Thanks for the review ed001. Can't imagine how it must have been like to watch the game again. Nothing to argue with about that performance. We were poor and fully deserved the loss, even putting aside the disallowed goal.
{Ed001's Note - it was even worse the second time around. Seeing it without the hope made it more obvious just how bad we were.}
12 Nov 2025 08:47:18
I ve just watched the Howard wedd interview. He’s starts by saying “let’s look at the facts, The ball comes in from the corner” wow really well done Howard ????
And that where the bull s**t starts.
12 Nov 2025 08:56:17
To be fair, they did just about have Guehi over the line.
I think we have a combination of factors happening all at the same time
1-new players replacing guys who had the DNA of the club in their mentality, playing style
2-key players like Isak, Macca, Allison, Mo, Konate, Frimpong, injured or out of form
3-honeymoon of a new manager having a good first season
4-part of #1 and #2, we see this impact our consistency particularly in dealing with adversity. No surprise we then struggle away from home.
Personally, I’m ok with these things ironing out over the course of the season. I saw a video compilation that showed how many times Wirtz is wide open in the middle of the box on goal and his team mates take on a shot instead. And with each instance, Wirtz looks more and more deflated.
These things take time, build trust, go through adversity together etc. it’s hard to see, but these are helpful for the long run.
12 Nov 2025 09:13:07
Thanks Ed for the review and taking the pain of watching it again. The league dream is most likely over. But I just want to enjoy watching the football again. Win or not I don't like the football we play.
{Ed001's Note - it is not very entertaining and not working either.}
12 Nov 2025 09:17:51
Good review that ed001. I really worry about the leadership with Slot it’s baffling to me that he can’t see how reverting to type pressing high energy got 2 good results then going back to that utter carp type of football with such little intent was really worrying.
{Ed001's Note - it makes no sense.}
12 Nov 2025 09:43:03
‘The issues at Liverpool are not just the same as last season, they have been amplified by the recruitment and tactics, rather than rectified. ’
I think that sums it up and is the most worrying aspect moving forward into the rest of the season. I thought after Villa and Madrid games realisation had hit home but not so sure after City. I guess we will see over the next 9 games.
12 Nov 2025 10:18:21
Thanks Ed. Torturous, but what needs to be said was said.
Regarding Doku, dare I say I feel he is getting to Mane's level in terms of end product. I wouldn't be surprised if Ljinders was tasked with improving this side of him.
I can imagine Ljinders showing many videos of what Sadio would do in such situations. He is developing into quite some player if he keeps up the level of consistency.
{Ed001's Note - he is becoming a special player, sadly.}
12 Nov 2025 10:30:32
Thanks for this Ed1, every word, absolutely spot on. It's got to a point I'm not even looking forward to the next game. Rewind a few months and I couldn't wait until every single game but now? to be quite honest - with these performances I don't even mind if I miss a game every now and then because watching that nonsense just isn't fun at all.
It's frustrating because I know we can play so much better, we have the quality in the team to beat any club in the world right now yet we're putting in performances like that? it's dissapointing to say the least mate.
{Ed001's Note - I think that is the worst thing about it, knowing that there is so much more in these players.}
12 Nov 2025 10:48:01
Thanks for the review Edd I just read it. I have to agree with every word.
My concern is just how tired the team looked. Apart from the tactics, there was no intent. Liverpool teams just don't suite this type of play.
I felt so chuffed after the last 2 games and totally expected us to really go at City.
I was concerned about Wirtz as soon as we bought him I just thought he was a luxury. I felt he was getting in the way and slowing play down on the edge of the box.
I deferred to Slot and thought he must have a plan. Clearly not! I don't see how we can continue playing this way and expect it to work. It won't, it just won't.
{Ed001's Note - the problem is not Wirtz, there are plenty of videos out there of how his teammates ignore him when he is open in a better position.}
12 Nov 2025 11:04:39
Slot should've had it in him to tell at least Robbo, Macca and Salah that they couldn't start 3 intense games in a week and brought in Kerkez, Jones and Gakpo/ Chiesa and then gone at City the same way we did Madrid.
The less said about Konate the better.
12 Nov 2025 11:05:17
If we played fast one and two touch football, Wirtz would shine imo.
12 Nov 2025 11:26:15
Thanks for the write-up, Ed. It really was a meek performance wasn't it?
I just saw this from Julien Laurens twitter:
- City ran 118km as a team on Sunday vs 109.2km for Liverpool. That’s 8.8km more!
- It’s the second highest difference between 2 PL teams this season after City vs Wolves (+9.7km)
- Foden ran 12.76km alone and Bernardo Silva ran 12.73km alone against Liverpool. Only Foden (12.85km vs Everton) and Florentino Luis (12.78km vs Forest) have done better this season!
- City cover more ground than anyone else so far this season: 1268.7km (115.3km per game)
- It’s 5.5km more per game than last season (they were at 109.8km per game)
- Arsenal are second in most km ran this season with 1261.5km (114.7km per game)
- The average distance covered by a team in the PL this season so far is 110.2km
Looks like City are really going back to basics.
{Ed001's Note - hard work makes a huge difference.}
12 Nov 2025 11:31:10
Salah should have been moved on but unfortunately there was soo much change especially upfront that it made it harder to let him move on. He's a big problem to drop because he'll be disruptive.
I do agree with the lack of leadership. A Keane would be great for that group of players.
I don't believe we have the players upfront to press high. I can't see isak and etitke running like hell to hunt down the ball.
Not under slot.
There's soo much wrong on the pitch. To have a wealth of attacking talent and watch that crap is frustrating. Slots attitude is probably the most worrying. There should be massive pressure on him, he's the manager of a massive football club and there's no excuses for the performances and results.
12 Nov 2025 11:41:30
Regards the team being flat vs City - to me it is no great surprise that “this” team wasn’t able to back-up a 3rd game in 7/ 8 days.
I felt before this game that we should have started Jones for Macca and Gakpo for Ekitike. Just felt we’d need fresher bodies to head into this final match of the three.
12 Nov 2025 11:54:50
Salah never going to pass to anyone in the box ask mane about that. The slow play and lack of movement not helping Wirtz either, watched him Dribble through 2 players and had to be fouled to get the ball from him because there was no pass on. He’s got the skills he just being let down.
12 Nov 2025 12:47:45
Exactly John, he's such a clever player, he's got the potential to be one of our best players but as things currently are, he's got no chance. Change is needed.
12 Nov 2025 14:03:34
Salah can be sold at anytime for huge money, hence why he was given the contract. Who could have known that the changes in personel would precipitate such a decline, considering his success last season was built around him not having to track abck - this is just one of those mostly unpredictable knock on effects of the wholesale changes that has come into the mix.
As Ed pointed, having a Semenyo type on the wing could change the team dynamic, permitting more space for Flo.
Salah can't play all the time in this set up, although the thinking is that he will regain his best form through playing a lot .
{Ed025's Note - i think you may get decent money for Salah DrB but it wont be anywhere near what you Could have got last year mate imo, if they wait another year they can get him for nothing which may be the more realistic outcome i would suggest..
12 Nov 2025 13:23:51
Thanks for the review, Ed. Always a great read.
You mentioned the midfield needed more bite. Would it not be possible to encourage the current midfielders to increase their strength and physical power? You can do both even without large increases in muscle mass and weight.
Would this have any benefit to the team?
Our midfield just looks so physically short on power and energy.
{Ed001's Note - it is more about the style of play mate, rather than being stronger and more physical. Plus we still need one more midfielder, as we never added to a midfield that was clearly having struggles last season, so why not just add the bite through adding that type of midfielder?}
12 Nov 2025 13:50:06
Spot on with your review Ed. The big problem I see going forward is that Slot stated in an earlier interview that he believes in this so called playing style and will continue with it.
If he does we will see more of the same losses, until he is removed.
{Ed001's Note - if he is not going to change that, then he will end up getting himself the tin tack.}
12 Nov 2025 14:56:10
Agreed Ed. If Slot is such a disciple of Pep for example you’d think he’d recognise the value of a specialist more defensive centre mid, city have had one when they’ve been successful, and Arsenal have one now. It’s not that complicated!
12 Nov 2025 15:08:19
Great review Ed and thanks for rewatching that dross. When, in your opinion should the managers incompetence get punished by the club, your review is scathing on him and the coaching staff between learning nothing in the league, pointless subs and a LFC manager throwing in the towel in a match. Surely its getting inexcusable?
{Ed001's Note - it is certainly heading that way. I think we need to some progress after the international break - a clear sign that they have analysed the matches played and realised it is not working. That they have then decided to play a different way. Otherwise, if they return to this crap, then there is no point pretending otherwise, he will have to go.}
12 Nov 2025 15:39:56
I think the stubbornness is going kill Slot. I was starting to think that maybe he learnt that he had to ditch these tactics and revert to what works, but I was wrong.
This squad is too good for us to be playing this bad. All is the coaching teams responsibility here.
12 Nov 2025 16:54:04
Great review, Ed. You clearly love doing this cos I would have taken the week off, personally. Based on the convo we had yesterday, Slot reminds me of BR when Bielsa recommended that he change the style to a man to man high press in the second half of the 13/ 14 season that should have won us the title whereas, that was not the way he wanted to play BUT he went with it.
The season after, he played the way he wanted to play that crushed the team which led BR to getting the sack. I'm afraid, Slot is going that route and if he doesn't fix up, he will go the way BR went when the time comes. I promise you that.
{Ed001's Note - I agree, it is heading that way.}
12 Nov 2025 16:57:32
Taurus01, Slot does not want to play like last season. That, we can already confirm. He really wants to play the way we are playing now even tho recruitment-wise, we don't have the players to play it (cos the recruitment did not address this, as Ed said in midfield and defence) and he seems undeterred hence, the stubbornness you speak of.
Slot had better change cos if he doesn't, he will get the sack and it's not going to matter if you are Slot in or Slot out. The sack will happen if he doesn't revert. It's that simple.
12 Nov 2025 17:01:31
What the heck happened Ed001, I remember you were so enthusiastic about Slot in the summer. Is he turning out to not be the coach you thought he was?
{Ed001's Note - seems so. He is not the coach we all want him to be.}
