Slot became obsessed with PSG after they beat us last season ans watching them go on and win the champions league.
He thought he could change the way we played and thought it would work in the Premier league.
Obviously it doesn't!
He stuck with it for far too long.

Hopefully he has realised his mistakes and will now change his ideas and tactics.
We can hopefully move on and get some consistency in the second half of the season and establish our selves in the top four.

I have never believed that Slot is obsessed with the PSG model cos PSG are a pressing team that play high tempo, high pressing football, something Slot has literally stopped doing for starters and now plays the equivalent of Rodgers ball in his final 2 years at LFC which was also a disaster. Where's the correlation, exactly?

Also, PSG do not play with a striker whereas we signed 2 strikers to play this season. So again, where is the correlation in terms of actual tactics and what we can actually see on the pitch? Again to me, this is a myth.

This is a big weekend for us as a club. Slot is meeting with Salah and hopefully somthing is resolved.
But the game needs to be much better, we need a good strong performance no matter the Salah Slot meeting.
Both party's are unlikely to be here next season IMO. I hope I'm wrong and we all come through this. But this game needs to be a win and convincing one at that! Progress must be made from midweek. Anything less than that and I feel Slots position is untenable
So dig deep boys, play the Liverpool way and play for the privilege of wearing the Liverbird Upon your chest.

YNWA

It's bigger than any individual. We are.

Don’t you think the slow playing and lack of intense press was because of the disrupted preseason and resulting lack of fitness though Oli?

It seems every single game we play these days half the team’s minutes are being ‘managed’.

There comes a time when you just have to accept that players do get injured sometimes and take the shackles off. Maybe the praise he got last year for keeping players on the pitch has gone to his head and he’s desperate to maintain that record. I’d much rather see decent football and some wins with a few injuries than keep everyone fit but lose every week!

12 Dec 2025 12:39:51
So you're saying, Chrisy, if we scrape a 1-0 win that Slot's a gonna? Interesting.

12 Dec 2025 13:08:09
Everyone will be delighted with ANY type of win. This isn't fifa its elite sport.

12 Dec 2025 13:16:17
Rome. I didn't say that at all. What I said was we need a good solid progressive performance. We need to boss premier league opposition. If we end up drawing and throwing away a lead like last week.

Then yes I honestly believe it's yet another backward step. We are at home we should take the game to the opposition and dominate. I get your point! A wins a win and so on. But no sorry! scraping a 1-0 win against Brighton at home is NOT ACCEPTABLE IMO.
Those sorts of games need to be done with mate, teams coming to Anfield not being scared is why we are where we are right now.
I want to see us absolutely batter Brighton. Set down a marker! Anybody thinking we are a soft touch needs to think again. I'm fed up with teams coming to our house and taking the piz. Sitting in my chair with the remote drinking my beer.
I hope that makes my position clear?
We are Liverpool mate. I want fear in any team that sets foot over our threshold.
Scrape a 1-0 no thanks not enough.

Oh and when they're leaving after loosing. A good kick up the arse too. ???.

12 Dec 2025 13:44:12
I don't get the he wants to play like PSG . because the return game we played very well playing our own game . over there is was embarrassing even though we somehow won that game.

12 Dec 2025 14:20:27
Brighton are actually a pretty good team that likes to press high up the pitch. Demanding that we 'boss' and 'batter' them when our two starting wingers are out and we are probably going to use a formation we only started using against Inter seems a bit optimistic. If we were on a good run of form and Isak and Ekitike had played a bunch of games together then I think that would be a fair expectation.

Since we aren't, I feel like you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. I'll take a 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 win any day of the week right now, but hopefully it's a 1-0, maybe a 2-0.

Dreaming of PSG. worse than PSV.

And about as exciting as an STD.

{Ed025's Note - love it LFC8..

12 Dec 2025 14:58:15
I think it was Ed001 who mentioned that Slot became obsessed after the PSG game but not in the vein that we want to play like them. But rather he became worried about burnout and the fitness levels of the players. Hence why we are now playing a slower tempo and training at a lower intensity currently. It's all just to preserve the player's legs.

12 Dec 2025 15:24:18
I think definitely he went into season obsessed with PSG style but his plan to implement it went out the window pretty quick when it was clear it wasn't going to work and he wasn't Luis Enrique.

He has been fumbling around since.

Maybe he will land on something that works.

12 Dec 2025 16:03:14
Sean Dundee Training got postponed for 4 days due to Jotta's tragic accident. The start of the season was 4 months ago. You don't remain unfit for 4 months because you missed a handful of training sessions

The slow play and lack of intensity is clearly down to Slot's approach. It's evidently intentional.

12 Dec 2025 17:25:31
Personally, just going on what he has said publicly, I think Slot was more worried by how likes of Everton, Newcastle and Forest worked out how to throttle us. Mark / press both Virgil and Grav, and suddenly we struggle to get the ball forward.
It’s taken way too long now to find a solution, and going by Michael Cox’s fascinating examination of the pros and cons of it as a system, a diamond is only effective temporarily, as teams can quickly work out how to deal with it.

But it’s definitely the right set-up until we get our confidence back.
The other thing to consider is that Trent could sit alongside Grav in midfield. Kerkez and our rbs don’t have that skillset.
Guehi could have done that, and unexpectedly missing out on him has undermined our whole summer transfer strategy, as without him we clearly need a proper DM.

12 Dec 2025 18:26:59
A narrow win would do us this weekend.

Despite a few indifferent results in Europe we’re probably better suited to that style of football right now. Our worst struggles are often against the very physical and high intensity teams, and those who are strongest from dead ball situations.

I haven’t seen much of Brighton lately, so not sure of their approach. I’m expecting a tough game but hope they play fairly open.

12 Dec 2025 19:05:31
See Brighton giving us a right game. Tight game which could go either way, not just this season either.

13 Dec 2025 11:26:19
@Drac if you are saying that Slot was obsessed with the PSG loss the same way he was obssessed with the Forrest loss from last season then, I fully agree with it.

@Sean, I agree with your assessment, matel. In fact, Slot said he wanted to rotate a bit more earlier this season so as not to repeat the burn out from the tail end of last season. I agreed with that, btw.

The issue we have is that the way he has done this has been a disaster, end of. I have NO issues with taking it easy however, you can't just do that to the point of not giving the team a fighting chance in games. Like you said, just let the players play in a way they are comfortable with and train, prepare, recover accordingly. If Slot doesn't want injuries then, we might as well pack up the season.

And No. I don't have to accept a damn thing that makes NO sense to me, personally. Cheers, mate.
