Ed’s and anyone else
Genuine question and not my opinion but what are people feeling about us not being in the round of games for the Carabo cup this week and the chance to still be in with a shout of a trophy - something that this club should be about
Pros -
With the slight up turn in form is it chance to continue this?
Getting a few players that need games a good run out and some confidence - eg Isak.
Laying a glove on Arsenal that would leave a marker on them ( they seem a bit fragile themselves atm )
As above - in with a chance of a trophy .
Getting some minutes into legs of players that can’t seem to last 65 - 70 minutes .
Con’s
Risking injuries to key players .
Losing and risking a downturn in recent confidence .
Not being in it give Slott more time on the training pitch .
Also do you think Slott will take the view that the FA cup is “not worth risking players “ even given a favourable draw
Again it’s a question not an opinion
Cheers.

Because of where we are in the league, giving up on the chance of a trophy stings a bit, but I'm hoping that the fact we've got a week off between games for the next 2 weeks will make a big difference to the rest of our season. Injury woes at the moment means one less game is a bonus, and the time on the training ground should really help with team cohesion and fitness, as long as it's hard training and not just fannying about.
At the start of the season, none of us would really be fussed about the league cup, so while I stop short of saying it was a good decision to throw that game, I do think it'll benefit us now.

Considering our injuries i don't really mind it, we were beaten fair and square with a very weakened team and don't deserve it this year.
For the Barnsley game it should be a nice mix of youth and those that need minutes.

Looking at Isak I'm not entirely sure that giving him more game time is going to help him all that much. There's something wrong with the way he's moving, I feel like he has an injury that hasn't fully healed.
I don't think I've even seen him break into a full out sprint yet this season, we know from watching him in the past he is not at all a slow player.

I will never be happy to see Liverpool knocked out of any competition.
All this rotation, lightwork training and restricted pressing in-game has ultimately counted for nothing, because we're still decimated by injuries. So we might as well have just played full throttle every game and picked strong sides, even in the Carabao Cup. I have serious concerns over the strength and conditioning of our players. I think they're too pampered.

Hopefully the week off between games can help us get maximum points. Do that and get into the top 4 by New Years and i can live with exiting the Carabao Cup. Fully convinced we'll then get stronger and stronger as the season progresses.

Indeed, MKS. This last statement you mentioned re: the fitness of the players is why we are unable to press consistently in games and Ed01 mentioned it very early in the season.
Vs Brighton, we couldn't do that consistently either due to poor fitness levels hence to me, why Slot has been allowing teams to come on to us a bit more which this team simply cannot handle. The press is the way to go offensively and defensively, IMO.

I think Liverpool should always be aiming to win every trophy. I love the league cup, I actually prefer to FA cup. I feel the fa cup is overshadowed a bit by having all the key games during crucial league and champions run ins. Whereas league cup is done and dusted by that point!

We’re Liverpool. Should be aiming to win every single trophy, every season.

Cheers for all the replies chaps!
So the treble is still on then! ??.

I mean it is what it is.
You don’t go to lose games but there are always silver linings.
15 Dec 2025 19:14:32
We're not decimated by injuries, MK.
Slot has been allowing teams to come onto us which this team simply cannot handle with reference to the Brighton game, OliRed?
We handled it and beat Brighton.
Are you rewriting history again, lad?

In watching Gomez, I'm prepared to give Slot less of a hard time.
pretty difficult to rotate effectively in the defensive line when 1 CB is out for the season, 1 isn't consistently fit and the 2 fullbacks are in and out.

I’m not sure there’s great benefit from being in the cups early, other than giving the squad players a run out.
Con though is that fans still have to pay for the privilege of what basically amounts to a reserve game for us, injury risk is a real issue, and if we lose the team selection then gets picked over by the media.
I tend to not watch the finals anymore unless we’re in them, which says quite a lot. The top 4/ 5 finish thing in the premier to get into the champions league has done quite a lot of damage to the two domestic cups.
On the Isak thing it does look strange, it’s not disinterest but he’s just not moving right at all. Even if we had extra games to give him a run out it looks like he’d just get injured.
15 Dec 2025 21:22:51
We can’t keep a settled back 4 for more than a couple of games at a times. Hopefully we will be looking to address this weakness.

What team can press for 90 minutes? For me the signs are that this team is pressing better, more proactively and more intelligently, that's good enough for me at the present moment.
16 Dec 2025 08:06:22
Rigsby, we're currently missing; Bradley, Frimpong, Gomez, Leoni and Gakpo to injuries sustained this season. Isak and Mac Allister don't look fully fit either to me and this has been an issue with these two players for months now. So is playing/ training at half pace to protect the players actually working, when we have no RB's and only two fit CB's?
16 Dec 2025 09:13:49
From a purely pragmatic view, having played 4 games in 10 days and the injuries that the squad has a mid-week off is a good thing, imho.
16 Dec 2025 09:56:30
Rigsby, Nah, we didn't. Many complained about it after the game on this thread and elsewhere. Even Ed01 said so in his review (not that anyone who analysed the game needed him to say that) .
Rewriting history? Nah, not sure you even watch games cos you never analyse what happened in them.
"We won so everything was fine" is not how you analyse games, mate. Sounds more like you just look at the score and if we win, you pipe on here saying all is honky dory. Sad for you.
