No transfer news but more of a personal opinion of mine regarding slot.

People are calling for Alonso, I get it, he's a club legend, and a nice guy ( met him personally) but if we signed Alonso, instead of slot when Klopp left, and he went on to win the league, in his 1st season, and currently this season, he sits in top 4 after a few changes to the team, would people want him replaced?

I'm not sure.

13 Jan 2026 13:40:37
Depends on the style of football Robbo and how the actual games have been. Also other factors like player fitness, integration with the team and use of players.

I think we're lucky to have as many points as we do and there hasn't been many comfortable wins which is where being 4th doesn't cut it for me currently. I know it's a results game, but being 4th doesn't make me feel easy that we'll finish there.

Furthermore, not learning that this passing for passing sakes thing and parking it when we are up isn't working.

The unwillingness to trust the youth and reluctance to rotate certain players is also something that factors in here.

Not to mention Slot keeps jetting away from the team.

If all of this was the same for Alonso, then I'd call for him to be out. But if we're asking about just the league position, then it depends other factors.

Cheers.

For me it's more of the way we play and fitness.

The games we play now are not convincing and it seems that we could go on a bad run at any time.

If we were playing like last season and had them energy levels but we had a few bad results then it wouldn't be an issue. It's more about the fact that we don't look good and we only seem to get results because we have better players not better tactics or gameplay.

13 Jan 2026 13:50:08
I can't speak for everyone. but i can live with a bad run of results. form is temporary.

But he has fundamentally changed how we went about playing football. refuses to address issues. has blinkers on with regards to selection. no interest in youth. no interest in changing anything other than making us slower. less fit. and about as much connection with the fan base as John W.

His pressers are shocking, he keeps publicly calling out players mistakes yet offers nothing when he gets it wrong.

Last season he was tactically switched on. changing how we play. great to see. he is just stubborn in the view that data spreadsheets is something fans are interested in. its like he runs scenarios in an AI programme. stats come back great. so he goes with it. and just doesn't see it not working on the field.

Just my view.

As Taurus said Robbo, the main issue is style of play. If were playing like prime Klopp LFC, people wouldn't have a problem with losing it seems.

13 Jan 2026 13:59:47
I think that's the key point, Taurus.
We need someone that is all-in on the club. It's not just a job. It's a way of life.

13 Jan 2026 14:03:37
I agree Taurus.

If we could see a style developing or at least the manager trying different things (due to previous setups not working) there would be some time on his side.
Anytime we have played anywhere near the style used under Klopp, we look so much better. Yet, the net game and subsequent 10 games or so we go back to this bore you to death style that doesn't make us harder to beat or create chance after chance to score.
I thought Slot was brought in as he had the a similar style and philosophy to what the players had been used to for years?
Then there is the seemingly lack of fitness throughout the squad. If that is intentional to negate injuries - that isn't working out either.
Then he disappears to Ibiza or wherever rather than coaching the players that remain behind on international duty.
How about the unwilling to use the youngsters? Why does Gakpo play every game? Why does the style seem to try and get him into a shooting position all the damn time? Why buy the players we did in the summer and not play to their strengths?
Starting games with 2 RB's and ending matches with DOM as RB?
Also, after the recent team meetings and extra training sessions, nothing seems to have changed.
Yes we are unbeaten in a few games, but some of those games we have been lucky to get away with a draw and it's not like we've come away from any of the games marvelling in how well we have played.
The style is so boring to have to endure.

I would love him to turn it around, but there does not seem to be any indication that he will.

Maybe the decent subs (last year) and setup were a lot down to the input of Heitinga? Who knows? All we can say is that things seemed to take a turn for the worse after the PSG games last season. We slowly got worse as the season went on and haven't recovered back to what we were able to do in the first half of last season.

I know we are in 4th, but that is more to do with how poor others have been around us when you really look at it.

13 Jan 2026 14:22:29
Robbo. so what you're saying is, be grateful with your lot n put up with this absolutely garbage football we play because we've had a few changes. to me a few changes is losing your best players n replacing them with mediocre ones not class ones, changing a winning formula for another version what's not working. yea ok I'll put up with that eh.

13 Jan 2026 14:29:01
- Playing style
- Jetting off whenever possible
- Players lack of intensity
- Players lack of fitness
- Lack of integration with the city
- Lack of interest in the youth setup
- Lack of accountability

It's far more than where we are in the league. I appreciate everything he did last season but now I am even starting to wonder if his half-time tactical tweaks that we all praised him for last season were only necessary because he didn't do enough prep in advance of the game. He won us the league and for that I will forever be eternally grateful but unless he is willing to commit 100% to the city, the club and everything that it stands for then I think that it is right to part on decent terms at the end of the season.

13 Jan 2026 14:39:52
I think Alonso would just take the job more serious.

13 Jan 2026 14:41:57
To all of the above I 100% agree.

13 Jan 2026 14:43:27
Absolutely no need to disrupt anything in a negative way at the moment. No change of management. Still going for 2 trophies and top 4. That's the reality.

13 Jan 2026 14:56:53
Brand of football is everything to me. The attacking side of our game at the moment is absolutely awful to watch, the last game I enjoyed was Madrid, not because of the result but because of how we pressed and won the physical side of the game.

Another way to look at it is, would you back slot against the best teams in the world? I don't. Respect for everything he did last season but this season has been dire.

13 Jan 2026 15:26:44
What is the style of play? Where is the strong leadership? Why has fitness fallen off a cliff? Where is the nurturing man management? where are the strong bonds between players and manager? Alonso is a superior manager in every way - when he speaks I listen.

13 Jan 2026 15:41:39
I wouldn't say he was or is a Liverpool legend.

13 Jan 2026 15:46:50
I don't know, if we were losing every game 5-4 playing beautiful football but being bottom on zero points I don't think many would be on here saying "yeah but the football is exciting we must keep the head coach". Results first Performance second.

13 Jan 2026 15:56:45
A lot of people deflecting the failure of Alonso at Madrid on to the players yet the players are immune from criticism at LFC… What people are saying is Alonso failed at Madrid because he couldn't manage the disruptive personalities at Madrid and they didn't want to play his style. Doesn't anyone see the irony in that? We have disruptive players here and people are piling on Slot calling him weak, yet Xabi gets a free pass at Madrid because of Mbappe's and Vinicius's personalities.

I'm sorry, great ex-player and all that, but I don't want a manager that has shown they can't control / train disruptive players.

13 Jan 2026 15:58:13
As soon as the club signed Wirtz and Isak the expectation level changed, that's breaking the bank twice and adding them to a title winning side. No if's no but's, no excuses, no transitional season rubbish, win the league again or questions will be asked.

We've all been guilty through the years of accusing Chelsea and City of buying the league, maybe rightly so with the level of spending. But this team has gone from title winners to buying top four.

13 Jan 2026 16:08:59
Absolutely Ron.

13 Jan 2026 16:34:08
I think both Slot and the club know he is a bridging appointment. 3 year contract, family stay in Holland. Players bought for the future not the present in terms of style of play. The problem is he won the league last season and no one expected that to happen.

13 Jan 2026 16:50:23
Ron keague that is a fair point you make but we're not getting either results and performances have been lacking this season.

13 Jan 2026 17:00:22
Ron - Xabi Alonso made several decisions and requests that were by all accounts over ruled by Perez. It wasnt that he couldn't control the players its that he wasnt allowed to. He wanted to drop Vini and was told he wasnt allowed to by Perez (allegedly) At Liverpool Slot was backed by the up aboves regarding Salah and he was dropped as punishment.

You're comparing Apples with Oranges.

13 Jan 2026 17:33:26
So Ron. you're comparing us to that lot Madrid. they've hounded out loads of managers because they're egos can't take it. see after the game against Barcelona, Alonso wanted to give them a guard of honour n the players wouldn't do and all walked off shaking their heads, not because they lost because their ego couldn't take it. that would never happen at Liverpool.

13 Jan 2026 17:39:24
@Shipley, your list of the perceived faults of Slot is very thorough. Can you provide any proof for the items on the list? Sounds like you've rounded up a pile of 'issues' that have appeared on here in recent times and presented them as a list if facts. A good example is the 'lack of accountability'.

Who do you think he is accountable to, what do you think he is accountable for and how is he failing in this accountability in relation to his gestation KPIs. Not having a go, just curious as to how we can measure what he is doing against what the club have set for him to do.

13 Jan 2026 17:45:42
As I said earlier it makes no odds if Xabi comes or not but slot has to go.

13 Jan 2026 18:22:39
Ron. Alonso failure at Madrid? His record was Won 20 lost 5 drew 3 with a negative disruptive dressing room to boot. Slot last 28 games won 14 lost 9 drew 5 The case for the prosecution rests.

13 Jan 2026 18:47:23
AAR we did not add Isak and Wirtz to a title winning team. The title winning team had Trent, Diaz, Darwin, Jota, Tsimikas, Quansah, Elliott and Kelleher in it, this team does not. We lost/ sold a lot of players and had to replace them so we went big with some of the replacements. That is a world away from what Chelsea or City did, they just kept adding without losing anyone.

Same thing Arsenal have been doing over the last few seasons. That's why Arsenal had a much stronger bench than us, they haven't lost any players they've just added to what they already had. It's a huge difference.

13 Jan 2026 19:37:01
@wdw by lack of accountability I was referring to the fact that he will never hold his hands up and say it how it is. He will never say that we played poorly or that the tactics were wrong, only that we were unlucky and the opponents know how to play against us. He also complains about squad depth whilst refusing to give some players any game time. If you want more evidence just watch his press conferences or post match interviews.

There is plenty of evidence for the other points in the list too. I'm not massively anti-Slot and I really wanted it to work out but I think his attention being divided between Liverpool and his family in the Netherlands is causing a lot of problems and for it to work out he would probably need to commit to the city and move them over here which I just can't see happening.

13 Jan 2026 20:00:32
Different though Ron as our players have proved they will follow instructions and also work hard.

13 Jan 2026 22:08:26
Alonso has not done a bad job, he was sacked when Real were 2nd in the league and 4 points off top. The recent Mbappe protest when asked to do a guard of honour to the winners of the Spanish Cup emphasises what a toxic club they are.

13 Jan 2026 23:39:18
Maybe Slot won't hold his hands up and say how you think it is, Shipley. Maybe you misinterpret some of his comments and interviews. Maybe you are right and Slot is wrong. He isn't accountable to you though and maybe he isn't bothered enough to make you feel better after a poor result and/ or performance.

I have read on here that he is 'cold'. He was 'cool' last season. He might not be starting some players as they don't offer enough because of a lack of squad depth. Gomez and Chiesa did themselves no favours again last night. But don't worry too much because things will change, sooner or later.

14 Jan 2026 01:19:30
Who are the disruptive players that we have? I can't think of any that are on the same level as RM.
