I can't understand why in the build up to a massive game like yesterdays he let's his players have a few days off to travel where ever they want instead of getting them on the training pitch. No wonder tiredness and lack of fitness is showing.

09 Feb 2026 08:19:18
Because some players haven't had a break since the start of the season.

{Ed001's Note - they only do part time hours, they should be able to manage a few months without a break. They have plenty of free time for r&r.}

@Longthing76
I appreciate you have your own opinion, but you are simply excusing some of the downright appalling decisions Slot is making.
1. The players shouldn't need more days off to rest. Their entire job, for which they are paid 10s of millions a year in some cases, is to ensure they are thoroughly rested and prepared for matches - nothing else matters. Low on energy? Eat more nutrient-dense food. Tired after a busy period? Spend more time sleeping.
2. The team is already unfit and underperforming - they should be being made to train like crazy in order to build up proper fitness levels. IIRC, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain alluded to higher fitness levels being a big difference maker in winning games regularly.
3. The message that the players somehow need more days off no doubt ensures they excuse themselves for the atrocious performances they are putting in this season. Lazy and underprepared.

I'm sick and tired of hearing excuses for these players and manager. Lily-livered to a man.

{Ed025's Note - im with you Lowe..

Shameful. You earn breaks, Slot should not be rewarding poor performance by the already pampered princes.

{Ed025's Note - im with you StEA..

Are you really saying that Longthing. these players train a few hours a day at most, they have a a privileged lifestyle, they are not fit at all this season, and if true that Slot allowed them a few days off before Man City at home then this completely shows me why Slot is not cut out to be the manager of Liverpool FC.

09 Feb 2026 09:59:44
Wait, Yorkie red. Slot did that? Good heavens, this guy doesn't get it, does he?

As for the comment from Lowe1FC, I fully agree. The ability for some to explain away the utter ridiculousness of Slot's conduct and decisions this season is becoming utterly annoying and boring, frankly.

09 Feb 2026 09:25:10
Giving the players a few days off means that Slot can go on a jolly for a few days.

09 Feb 2026 09:33:14
I didn't say I agreed with slots decision. I was just referring back to slot talking about players like vvd, grav not having a rest and needing a rest.

09 Feb 2026 09:37:46
I can only really remember Dom putting a proper shift in since September.
No one else is busting a gut in games and obviously training as well judging by how woefully unfit nearly everyone is.
Why they need extra time off is anyone's guess.
Sooner Slot is out the better honestly.
Just sack him now and get an interim whose sole job is to get the players actually fit again so any new manager at least has players who can run a full 90 again.

This fitness issue has completely ruined our season, it's like playing the game with your shoelaces tied together.
And it's all so bloody boring, honestly can barely watch us these days.

{Ed025's Note - you really are a hard watch Mikey, mind you so are Arsenal mate and if this is the way to be successful im glad i support Everton.. :)

A few days off seems crazy. Honestly at this point I'm leaning more toward malice than ineptitude.

09 Feb 2026 10:27:34
Does my head in, Oli. Liverpool deserve so much better.

Our players are unfit and it showed badly yesterday. We took too long to get up to the speed and intensity of the game, and then in the first 25 minutes we fought really hard to get back on top in the but then had completely burned ourselves out by the 70th minute. Only a moment of sheer brilliance masked the fact that we were terrible for at least 75 minutes of the 100+ played yesterday. Maybe on another day Ekitike scores one or two of those big chances he had, but on another day Haaland scores a minute into the game and we get battered. So I'm not interested in the ifs and buts of it all. We were terrible overall and once again that lays firmly on the managers shoulders.

The tactics are dire. The fitness is shocking. The substitutions are baffling. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I just want this season to be over with now. We need a hard reset from top to bottom. Slot, Van Bronkhorst, Hughes, Salah, Mac Allister and Konate all need to go. To be honest with you, my patience is wearing very thin with Gakpo, Gravenberch and Van Dijk as well.

On a side note, Kerkez was excellent yesterday. Pocketed Semenyo for the 2nd time this season and played with the fire and passion I wish the whole team had played with. He and Szoboszlai were the only two to match the intensity shown by Man City. Wirtz and Ekitike were good for the 20-25 minute spell we had but otherwise were ineffective and just couldn't get into the game. The gameplan really did not allow anyone to truly shine though because our slow and laboured style just meant that Alisson, Konate, Virgil, Macca, Grav, Gakpo and Salah kept getting swarmed and giving the ball straight back to Man City. All the time and space was afforded to Kerkez and Szoboszlai in our own full back areas and the ball just wasn't sticking to Wirtz and Ekitike up top because they were basically being asking to compete for 50/ 50's for most of the game. God these tactics are awful. How much longer until FSG intervene? I know they're not the kind of owners to interfere normally, but the club is their asset and they're going to see a huge drop in revenue if this continues.

Longthing76 - What do you mean they haven't had a break?! They get paid millions to play football. That IS a break! Come off it will you! They spend most of the day dossing.

09 Feb 2026 11:07:34
Hughesless is trying to save his reputation.

09 Feb 2026 11:23:49
Icant belive the players were givien time off last week! At the game yday, terrible first half, much better in the second half, but yet again can't see out a game and the win. This is not the LFC i know and have supported for 55 years.

09 Feb 2026 11:40:19
Maybe Slot wanted the break.
Maybe he met his family in the peaceful island of Ibiza.

I hear its quite nice and relaxing there.

09 Feb 2026 11:42:39
Can't really add too much to that MK!
Really well put imo.

I watch Slot in his mid-week, pre match and post match pressers and there's nothing there to make me feel inspired about how we're going set ourselves up and perform. How must the bloody players feel?!

To be honest I was prepared to take this season as a "transition" season. No problem with that as bedding in players who haven't played in the prem can take time but I still fully expected a relatively easy campaign to top 4/ 5 plus a good couple of cup runs in between and I think a lot of posters on here would accept that if there was a consistency in performance that made us feel next season we'll be back on it and making a title challenge?
At the moment we are miles away which is majorly concerning and I've convinced myself that Slot will see this season out however it pans out.

ShipleyKopite, that is what that means apparently.
