Hypothetical question, we lose tomorrow, Slot goes and your now in charge of the club what do you do? Alonso is not available until the summer.
For me we're stuck between a rock and a hard place with Slot.
Were looking for an unemployed manager who can steer us back up the table for 3 and half months or a long term one that would likely cost a fee and forget about Alonso.

Who is our Carrick or Rosenior?

I personally can't wait until we have a fresh start as this team has all the potential in the world, the way we constantly take one step forward and three steps back is beyond baffling. Sensibly where would we turn right now?

Sam Allerdychie ? it's a hard one Ernie, who's out there, if Alonso was nailed on for the summer then I would reluctantly go with Gerrard on a temp just to get the new manager bounce like United and Chelsea have done.

Baffling is definitely an apt word for this season so far. Gerrard will bring in aggression, intensity, passion, energy all of which are sorely lacking.

Hendo.

I would add EM that looking at our fixtures, there isn't a single game that looks like a win on paper. I only see draws and defeats. Horrible take I know but that's our season. Since our first 5 games in the league, 6 wins 6 draws 8 defeats. 24 out of 60 points. That's not a "transitional" season. It's an epic fall from grace.

I think we've left it Too Late now personally. I think the season is over

Benefit of bringing a manager in now will bear fruit for next season only, get used to formations, patterns etc.

The most powerful motivation for any human being is Revenge!

Amorim would take the LFC job for no wages till the end of this season, won sporting lisbon their first title after a 19 year wait, beat man cheaty 4-1 in the UCL when man cheaty were in their pomp?

Saved man United from certain relegation last year, and took them to a Europa Cup Final as well, with a squad full of "PUDDINGS". Has not lost a game at Anfield in two appearances, slot has taken 1 point from 6 in both those anfield home games, with on paper much better teams. Played Guardiola 5 times and won two, drawn 2, lost one, with a load of puddings.

13/ 14 months he was at man utd, he has left carrick a very good side similar to what jurgen left slot in his first season, he emptied all the dross out in the last summer eriksen, garnacho, antony, sancho, wieghorst, onana, lindelof, wan bissaka, hojlund etc sorted player power out straight away rashford was gone in the blink of an eye, mainoo was forced to toe the line rules/ authority, was Alonso overcome by player power at RM? such as slot at LFC!

He left because he wanted to be the MANAGER of man United and the only Coach the players have also, that is what fundamentally is wrong with slot and LFC there are too many fingers/ depts in the pie.

Amorim knows the multi system of working wanted at man United and wanted at LFC will not work "too many cooks spoil the broth" aka Hughes/ Edwards/ Set Piece Coach etc he wants to sign his own players for one thing like Jurgen (VVD meeting in Blackpool for instance) wanted and had at LFC.

Amorim would give his all to rub man utds noses right in it, 13/ 14 months is similar to Jurgens time table when he first joined a PL club, there is nothing to lose is my view as REVENGE is the strongest desire a human being can have, success at LFC over man United is a dish best served cold.

I would prefer Tuchel to Alonso as he was a Coach under Jurgen at Dortmund but that's next season at least, he copies Jurgen to the letter in his methods, but he would not be needed as Amorims PL record against top clubs is second to none!

Let's see how things play out, again just thinking out loud if its bad tomorrow (genuinely hope its not) let Rob Page take the FA Cup game then Gerrard who was useless at Villa and in Saudi come in for the following Sunday, steer us to a top 5 finish and maybe a trophy before handing the reigns over to Alonso, that would be some story.

10 Feb 2026 21:08:55
I would manage the club myself. I'm too old to play myself, but would put all three of my boys in the team, making one of them captain, one the penalty taker and the other the free kick taker.

10 Feb 2026 21:10:58
Honestly, at this point I'll take almost anybody on an interim role because of the current rot that will no doubt continue unless we make a change.

Stevie, Maresca or dare I say, I'd even take Ange because he doesn't take rubbish from others and would give these players a kick up their arse to get some passion and aggression back into them.

Big Jan Molby.

10 Feb 2026 21:58:03
Get a grip.

10 Feb 2026 23:41:02
Tuchel was not a coach under Klopp at Dortmand and his playing style is nothing like Klopp's. Are we just making stuff up now?

11 Feb 2026 00:16:09
I was expecting to see Shappy's name at the end of the long post, but turns out it was 007.

11 Feb 2026 00:26:06
Why does anyone want Postecoglu? He's failed horribly twice in the Premier League and is an insufferable tit.

11 Feb 2026 00:35:53
Who is our Carrick or Rosenior ?. I'm sure some people won't be happy until we become Chelsea or United and just sack people for a new manager bounce then when that wears off sack them for another one. Rinse and repeat.

Carrick and Rosenior won't be there by the end of next season and the cycle will start again.

11 Feb 2026 05:06:58
So what would you do Varry? Just a hypothetical so need to get your knickers in a twist.
I don't want us to become like those clubs, the question was aimed at raising a debate about who if anyone is available turn things around or if its a better the devil you know situation for now.

11 Feb 2026 09:13:12
Postecoglu is not the best manager in the world and I wouldn't want him at Liverpool.

11 Feb 2026 09:29:49
I guess we are, TB2.

EM - I can see both sides of the arguments tbh

There's a feeling getting a temp gives us a new manager bounce but I'm not convinced that Carrick and Rossinior will turn their fortunes around either - Amorim went on his way due to a power battle not performance so they acted - Carrick is not nor will be a top level manager and United have this ridiculous romantic notion that their old boys will get them back to the top of the tree!
Rossinior won't last at Chelsea either if his potential was that great he'd of been snapped up by now elsewhere?
A temp for me until end of season? Who is there? Only Stevie G and that means after tonight if we lose he's got 13 games and will most likely need to win 9 or 10 of those! I'm not sure he's up to that just by balling and shouting in the changing room and trying to rouse the fans!
I think the board might well see the season out with Slot in the forlorn hope he gets us CL and go from there with most likely a new man in place from then on.
