It's international break. Now we can have a debate about Darwin Nunez.
I'll start. I miss the mad man.
{Ed001's Note - I do too, I was at a game he was playing in a few weeks back and he is still crazy. Not good enough for us, but I love him anyway. So much fun to watch.}
22 Mar 2026 12:36:55
We could certainly do with some of his enthusiasm in the squad right now.
{Ed001's Note - yeah but he wouldn't have got a game because he goes forward. He would be sat next to Chiesa.}
22 Mar 2026 12:45:04
I'm glad he's not here.
Can you imagine what he would be like once Slot removed the animal within Darwin?
22 Mar 2026 12:46:50
Slot would not pick him because he runs and presses. (Wait for it).
But I miss him too. I've always liked the idea of a South American forward in the team. They usually are quite tenacious and not too worried about a challenge, fiery, which gets the crowd up.
Just think of the chances he missed when we created a lot. How would he cope this season? He would be running back to get the ball off Konate, I expect, to get involved!

Selling Darwin and buying Isak was the transfer too far last summer. We had enough changes already.
22 Mar 2026 12:57:39
I'm with you, Mighty, having a fiery South American forward on the team or in the squad is great for getting the crowd going.
22 Mar 2026 13:17:18
100% miss him. What a lot of people failed to recognise at the time was that Darwin was on a fantastic upward trajectory until Slot arrived. 19 goals & assists in his first season, and 33 in his second. 33 goal contributions, and he still had room to improve. Whatever your opinion of him, that's a phenomenal statement to lay claim to.
Klopp knew how to man-manage. He knew Darwin needed game time to adjust and boost confidence, and the kid wears his heart on his sleeve. He went from starting 22 league games for Klopp to just 8 under Slot, who I believe made his mind up about Darwin before he ever arrived.
22 Mar 2026 13:21:35
If Darwin is the answer then I don't know what the question is.
Let's be honest, his skill set was running in behind (usually offside). In this slow Slot build-up era, he would have looked even worse than he did last season.
22 Mar 2026 13:33:03
Love the guy, I'd have him back tmorra, I'd swap Isak for him, he would have definitely outscored Isak this season.
22 Mar 2026 13:33:23
I was at the match once, the lads were warming up. They were passing it around, doing the long ball stuff. The ball bounced away from Nunez and almost bounced harmlessly into the advertisement boards.
To which Darwin jumped up, did an overhead kick, landed on his head, all to just smash the ball to the other side of the stadium, into the opposite boards, 70 yards away.
?
He almost put himself out for the season for naff-all. I miss him. Great entertainment.

LiverpoolFC8, Ha, brilliant!
JK23, We just want to feel something! Anything!
22 Mar 2026 13:54:15
We miss his character and his attitude - 100%.
He did lack quality.
22 Mar 2026 14:17:22
When you mean his attitude, Ron, do you mean when he downed tools against Villa away? To name just one match.
22 Mar 2026 14:09:09
Copy and paste what JK said and add he was a headless chicken, who I haven't missed for one second, even during this poor season.
22 Mar 2026 14:23:25
My post was rightly edited. I didn't put "poor" season.
22 Mar 2026 14:36:31
By attitude I mean his desire, commitment, and his positive attacking nature.
The fact that you can name games where he "downed tools" shows you they were exceptional and not reflective of his true nature.
Nunez was a battler. He put up with a lot of abuse in his time at LFC, but his head rarely dropped.
22 Mar 2026 14:47:00
You put forward an argument for him well, Ron. I was excited the day we signed him, and had high hopes for him. His sending off, in his first home game, against Palace set the tone. I simply didn't rate him, but each to their own.
22 Mar 2026 15:25:09
If nothing else, Darwin would have at least brought a bit of fight in the team. Currently we are playing like those elegant London Fashion Week models walking with 6 inch heels.
22 Mar 2026 15:45:17
I miss Darwin too. I still think there was a player there somewhere. Definitely not given a fair crack by Slot last season. Perhaps lacking in quality, but he always improved with Salah around, like his enforcer.
22 Mar 2026 18:53:38
Fans miss Nunez. Nunez missed chances.
22 Mar 2026 18:48:54
I agree, BenRichards. Darwin's skill set is more than useful for any manager who will build the team around him and give him license to just be him, for better or for worse.
Like Ed, I saw highlights of a game he had in the Saudi League and man, he is still crazy and missing sitters. It's pretty sad BUT as Ed said, we could use his abilities this season BUT as Ed said, Darwin would have splinters on his arse holding bench next to Chiesa.
{Ed001's Note - I didn't watch him in the Saudi League, I saw him in the AFC Champions League here.}
