We bought a player in a purple patch. These are Isak's last 14 big chances for us, Sweden and a few from Newcastle:

26 May 2026 11:46:06
Remains to be seen, but maybe on this occasion it turns out that we are the brown grass on the other side.

26 May 2026 12:05:17
He's crap, I can see why Klopp went after Darwin rather than him.

26 May 2026 12:20:46
I don't know how this video makes him look especially bad? I'm sure if you look at the last 20 chances of any striker (except maybe Kane) you'd find a pretty similar spread of missed chances. Even with Newcastle, he missed his fair share of chances, especially one on one when he had to put more thought into how he was going to finish.

He's still one of the best number 9s in the world though, and I'm sure he will prove it in time with us.

26 May 2026 12:20:58
Vanity signing from Hughes and Edwards. Simple. We all knew his injury record at Newcastle. It was a massive gamble. He needs a full pre-season to see what he's like. And to play in a different system.

26 May 2026 12:26:36
How we allowed ourselves to buy a player who downed tools for the club that made him is beyond me.

26 May 2026 12:40:54
I agree with Johnzandt - if a player downs tools it's a huge red flag.

However, I disagree with Scouse John L8
- anyone who's watched Isak's body of work throughout his career knows he's a class finisher.
He's also a decent footballer, but where he excels is in finishing.

Darwin struggled the most at finishing, which is why he's struggling to find a club.

Like a goalkeeper who is great fun and works really hard, he just struggles to keep the ball out of the net.

26 May 2026 12:59:27
We can say he's injury prone, but to try to start making out he's not a top finisher is ridiculous.

26 May 2026 13:09:49
Edwards wanted to prove his point, following Klopp choosing Darwin, but is about to be shown how misguided he has been.

Hughes and Edwards fanned the flames which encouraged Isak's agents to behave in the way they did, leading to the awful way in which he left the club. He should have been asked to wait one more season, which would have saved a whole lot of bad vibes and the subsequent pressure placed on the player.

Isak's injury record, lack of pressing, alongside the way in which he left Newcastle, were only ever going to spell trouble imo. Having 2 forwards that do not press is not the Reds way.

Herein lies the issue with allowing someone like Edwards to decide on style and tactics - he is not a manager nor a tactician.

26 May 2026 13:19:30
Isak taking flack now? Lads barely played, clearly wanted to play for us, is a quality player.

He's had an unlucky season, don't know how he's getting so much stick.

Don't know why people worry over finances, it's all monoply money anyway.

26 May 2026 13:28:26
He's had injuries and no preseason. Next season he'll come good!

26 May 2026 13:52:53
Not often I agree with you, FM, but I totally agree with you. Isak is class. We need to get him fit and focussed. He is an alright finisher. Jia strike at West Ham proved that!

26 May 2026 14:27:48
A top finisher based on how many seasons?

26 May 2026 14:53:06
Wow, Isak getting it today, a man who has been injured the full season. Who got brought back too soon n broke down again, but when fit is the deadliest out there, here's a thought, let him get a full pre season n get proper fit n see how many goals he scores, plenty of players to moan at but because he cost £120 mill let's take it out on him.

26 May 2026 15:16:21
I just find online so toxic these days, maybe I need a break.
Catch you all in July, lads.

26 May 2026 15:16:24
He will come back from the WC injured. He won't play more than 20 times next season. We be back here having the same arguments: he was injured in pre season, he was brought back too soon, etc. Get rid, if I had my way.

26 May 2026 15:44:01
The positivity is overwhelming at times......

26 May 2026 16:22:04
As FM said, the appeal is watching football, not listening to web-bound muppets.

26 May 2026 17:25:10
I guarantee that not one of those criticising him now were unhappy when we were chasing him. There was a reason he downed tools at Newcastle. He was given a verbal agreement that he would be allowed to leave after 3 seasons if one of the big clubs came in for him. Newcastle reneged on their promise.

26 May 2026 17:48:21
"Isak is crap."
The same kind of folks will be telling you in a few years that Mo Salah was overrated and wasn't all that.
Numpties.

26 May 2026 19:15:48
I don't see anyone saying Isak is crap. The truth is not everyone was happy with his signing; I repeatedly questioned why we'd spend so much money on a goal poacher with little work ethic, two good seasons in a team entirely built to play to his strengths, and who still got injured despite his team protecting him as much as they could. Nothing indicated to me he would come and adapt or even contribute much to a high pressing, fast attacking football we all want the team to play. Could he play or come on to score against stubborn teams who park the bus, maybe, but why pay so much for such a limited player?

He plays for us now, so I hope he can contribute, but unfortunately, he's having all the issues I worried he'd have.

The whole team has been crap this year, with Slot's terrible tactics, so hopefully he does better when fully fit next year (though I'm still not sure why he took 4 months to get to match fitness when he had the whole summer off). But I really don't see how he ever justified his price tag for us because I can't see him being anything more than an impact sub or being able to contribute against any teams except those that ply a low block against us.

@snugglepool,

Did you miss this post?

"He's crap, I can see why Klopp went after Darwin rather than him."

Definitely seems to be saying "Isak is crap".

"I don't see anyone saying Isak is crap."

@Snuggle, you must be new here. That has to be it, in my view.

26 May 2026 22:37:15
Just in case you missed my post, yes he is crap. There was a reason Klopp overlooked him. He's a glorified goal hanger. A quick Google says Nunez got 11 goals and 8 assists in 36 apps in his 2nd season. Do any of you think Isak will beat that?

27 May 2026 01:20:17
Happy to bet that Isak will beat that statistic, Scousejohn. Your predictions of doom and gloom next season ignore the fact that Isak scored 54 goals in 86 games at Newcastle. He was made to score goals.

27 May 2026 07:19:28
It's not doom and gloom, Darwin, I'd love him to prove me wrong (he definitely won't on the 36 apps). He's just another Kieta in that respect.
