I wish I was as closely involved in the club as Joe has been, part of title and trophy winning teams, rather than just watching from afar as a mere supporter.
Part of the glorious history no matter what happens from here. Imagine, rather than just saying 'I was there', being able to say 'I helped win it!'.

Tbh, Rome, it's easy to have sympathy because his body failing him isn't his fault. I think for his own good he should retire as he's only setting himself up for mobility issues later on in life. Joe is a good lad and I hope there's a space for him at the club to start his coaching career.

I'm fairly ignorant with regards to physiology, but will his latest injury, which I understand to be muscular, have any bearing on his ability to be mobile later in life?

This isn't a recurring injury which keeps flaring up, it's a different injury every time, as I understand it. It's not like a David Busst type injury.
I will probably get slagged off for my lack of empathy. I simply don't care.

Given he has what one year left on his contract, exactly how do you plan to "get rid of"? I can see him being allowed to see his contract out (given I can't see anyone coming in for him with an offer), offering bench cover when he is fit.
I wouldn't be offering him a new contract, but I will be sad to see him go. When he has been fit, he has been a good servant, and when he hasn't been fit, he hasn't caused issues.

Phil_LFC, when I say "get rid" I'm just spouting off. I fully appreciate the complexities of moving players on, and have said so on here. When you say he hasn't caused issues when he hasn't been fit, why would he?!
Like I say, I'm going off on one, which I'm prone to do.
However, I can't have sympathy for someone who's earnt millions and not been able to fulfill his job description, regardless of whether it was his fault or not. In just about any other profession he would've been dismissed under capability.

JawsRed, you are spot on. The same goes for every one of our players. Everyone who comes on here can feel free to express their views on our players as they see fit. Like you say, I very much doubt if any of our players gives a flying fish what's said on here. Why would they.

Joe falls into the Rob Jones, Jaime Redknapp, Fabio Aurelio category. All four had great potential, all four are decent blokes who 'fitted in at the club, and all of them never got anywhere near as far as they could because of persistent problems with injuries.
It's a genuine shame that the lads' careers were blighted.
I'm a big fan of Joe's and have been an advocate for keeping him for years, but it is getting to the stage when you have to say that he is just going to damage his body in the long term if he carries on the way he is.
Might be time to step back and, if he still wants to be involved in the game on a daily basis, perhaps look at starting to get his coach's badges?
If he does leave it'll be a real shame. Our longest serving player, I think, and to keep fighting his way back after each injury speaks volumes for the lad.

I'm with Rome. JG, nice and all as he may be, is not worth one fiddlers to the club. We're here chatting about football, not personality traits. He's totally unreliable, has been for years and should no longer be part of our CB selection "headache".
Go get Kounde for RB and a Zabyarni loan for CB. That would sort both of those problematic positions fairly quickly and effectively.

The guy had to take injections in his knee last season just to get on the pitch and play. You have to admire his determination, but taking pain killing injections isn't going to help him long term.
Appreciate that this might be a different injury now, but still!

I'd rather have a Joe Gomez at the club, a player trying his hardest to overcome injury after injury than rat players running their contracts down n leaving on frees. Seems there is more sympathy for these rats than a hard working likeable nice honest man.
