Patrick Berger, Transfer Reporter for Sky Germany (Hosts a show with Florian Plettenberg which is a bit more know internationally), reported we might be in for a return of Quansah as he has impressed at Leverkusen. Apparently on a 80m € Buy back which is valid till May.

To be fair, he was brilliant in his 1st season under Klopp. Then Slot ruined him and his confidence in 45 minutes. He shouldn't have been sold, not when you have Gomez flitting around the place. Nice guy and all, and I wish him the best, but Gomez should have been sold long before Quansah went.

I think he was getting caught in some off the field drama last season. A move away made sense to get out of the fishbowl.
I am not sure whether we will look to bring him back unless he shows he has that aggressive side in his locker.

I agree Gomez should have gone before Quansah. But no one was moaning last year when he was sold either. I think Leoni is the better prospect. Don't think Quansah could ever be accused of being short of confidence.

Re-signing Quansah for circa £40m more than we sold him for less than 12 months ago is very hard to see happening. You have to think about the optics of this. It basically would say that Slot was either a) totally wrong about the player's ability or b) that Slot is not a good enough coach to develop academy players in house. It would also reflect equally, if not more, poorly on Hughes if he has indeed negotiated a buyback clause at over double what JQ was sold for, just 12 months later.
These are two people with a lot of pressure on their jobs right now, and I just can't see them admitting they both failed to do their jobs adequately at a cost of a poor season on the pitch, partly due to a CB shortage, coupled with a poor performance off the pitch resulting in a massive financial loss. All to end up with the same player we already had! That's not a good look in my opinion.

There's a reason why we sold him in the first place. That reason hasn't changed.
03 Mar 2026 15:28:55
Contrasting reports on this one, with some saying it doesn't come into effect until next year. I personally don't see that a season in the Bundesliga doubles his value.
03 Mar 2026 15:33:54
Not for me. Double the dish we sold him for and personally don't think he was particularly good.
I think Leoni could be one of the future cb stars. I'm just not really one for getting someone back after they've been sold. You just move on. Same with ex's.
03 Mar 2026 16:05:01
80 million?! Is that a typo? Why would we pay double what we sold him for? Especially when we decided he wasn't good enough. Makes absolutely no sense. I'd genuinely consider asking Hyppia to dust off his boots before buying Quansah back for 80 million. That's absolutely insane, and if true, whoever negotiated that clause should be immediately sacked.
03 Mar 2026 16:59:40
Glad he's doing well, but he wasn't good enough for us. He's certainly not an £80m player.
03 Mar 2026 17:09:58
I can see us going back in Summer 2027, as we will have another cb vacancy if Virg doesn't sign an extension.
Then, the buyback will be EUR60m (£52m), which would mean we paid £17m for 2 years of regular football and development, which would make more sense.
Jacquet, Leoni, possibly Schlotterbeck and a couple of the promising kids from the academy that we bought/agreed to buy recently will do the job alongside Konate and Virgil.
03 Mar 2026 17:20:18
Can see Virg staying past 2027.

Quansah was a liability at times, and I wasn't unhappy to see him go. I am convinced he started the rot when we were going for the quadruple, and he gave that horrendous pass to Bruno Fernandez. He will have to have improved massively if we are to bring him back.
03 Mar 2026 17:39:14
There's no way we should be paying that to buy Quansah back.
He is a liability, and I think his attitude was all wrong. Might as well resign Phil Babb.
03 Mar 2026 18:20:12
You watch the same game as me, Magico1234. Quansah was awful. I would have taken him off after 5 mins. Slot ruined him, really? He was very poor the rest of the season. Never good enough for Liverpool.
03 Mar 2026 18:37:59
Quansah was never brilliant at any stage under any manager. He is a complete liability and super overrated because he looks ok on the ball. Avoid him like the plague!
03 Mar 2026 18:57:01
Quasah is no Nat Phillips who lots thought should be starting for us week in week out.
It just seems that every manager he's worked under at any level doesn't share that opinion.
03 Mar 2026 19:18:00
I like Quansah. He was inexperienced playing for us, and I'd well imagine he's improved playing week in, week out in Germany. Just don't think I'd be into spending silly money to get him back.
03 Mar 2026 22:26:47
Imagine selling Quansah for £40m with the intention of signing Guehi, only to not sign Guehi, then sign Quansah back for £80m.
03 Mar 2026 22:27:53
I wouldn't spend any money in bringing him back. He isn't that good a defender after all.
04 Mar 2026 08:55:11
We are well stocked for CBs. If the club want to spend money, there are other areas to be addressed first.
05 Mar 2026 07:50:50
Quansah will not be coming back under those terms. It's utter garbage.
