How accurate is Paul Joyce as he's said this morning fsg fully back slot to turn things around after a difficult season. Make of that what you want.

02 Apr 2026 10:21:19
Well, this is concerning, to say the least.

02 Apr 2026 10:30:04
September 2015, Paul Joyce wrote FSG predicted a slow start to the season and will continue to back Brendan Rodgers.

He was sacked a month later.

02 Apr 2026 10:32:05
I guess if they believe he will secure top 5 and get to the CL final, then fair enough he may well earn another season. But if he fails on either of those two points, and Xabi is willing to come in, their stance would change?

02 Apr 2026 10:33:38
Honestly, I thought he was gone pending a Champions League win at this stage.

It seems he might not need that.

I would think he certainly needs Champions League football next season to save his job.

So where I'm at right now.

Champions League: definitely keeps his job.
No Champions League football next season: definitely gets sacked.

The in between, I'm not sure, but my gut is telling me he goes at the end of the season and we have a new manager next season.

02 Apr 2026 10:34:33
The club will always publicly back the manager until they release them from their duties.

Paul Joyce is and always has been a mouth piece from the club, he isn't as intertwined as he used to be, but the club pushes things to him when they want to.

02 Apr 2026 10:35:57
They will back him whilst we still have a chance of winning something. They're hardly going to say at this point that his position is under threat etc.

02 Apr 2026 10:42:24
The title of his article is "Will Liverpool's owners stand by Arne Slot this summer?" The most committal thing he seems to say is "FSG remain steadfastly behind Slot and want him to emerge from the turbulence," but that could just mean that they haven't sacked him because they want him to finish the season strong before making changes in the summer.

You can read into it as much as you like, but at the end of the day, he is a journalist, and he is sitting firmly on the fence, and writing in such a way that you can interpret his words either way, and he can never be proven wrong whether or not Slot stays or goes.

02 Apr 2026 10:43:56
A coincidence that it comes a day after the Simon Hughes article, which basically described the uncertainty behind the scenes at the club.

I wouldn't be surprised if part of Joyce's article was briefed to counter that and give Slot some air cover for these next set of fixtures.

The way I look at it, only a Slot contract extension would indicate he's staying beyond the summer.

There's no sign of that, so everything else is just trying to control the narrative by the club's PR people.

If Slot had intended to stay, it might have been nice for him to take in some of the local community activities & events and witness the Legends game last week. But, no. He's back home in the Netherlands.

02 Apr 2026 10:49:05
This is standard PR. They're hardly going to turn around and say he's gone unless we finish in top 4/5, win Champions League & FA Cup.

02 Apr 2026 10:56:33
Would usually think it's a piece to save face from the club with the never ending scrutiny Slot is under, however, the section pretty much ruling out Xabi Alonso completely suggests it has more legs to it, or it's readying fans for when Alonso isn't the man they go for, and more than likely get a yes man to follow whatever Edwards/Hughes wants to do at the club.

02 Apr 2026 11:04:17
Joyce can be fairly reliable but he will produce PR driven pieces. That's what this looks like, if I had a penny for every article that came out just weeks before a manager was sacked claiming he had the full backing of the club, I'd be a very wealthy man.

02 Apr 2026 11:27:43
His word is usually taken as gospel, or was. No one, including on here predicted the Jacquet signing or the Mo announcement, so the club seem to be keeping things in house. Suppose if he's saying something you want to hear, he's ultra reliable, not so much if he's delivering bad news.

02 Apr 2026 11:46:34
I think club sounded out XA. Obviously we want to finish the best we can and therefore the club have to back the manager. They can't exactly go about saying yeah you are done after the season.
So both Joyce and Pearce are at it as club's mouthpiece to calm down waters.

02 Apr 2026 11:50:00
I am under the impression that Slot will see out his contract, which means another season.

02 Apr 2026 12:19:23
Think we should all check our fridge magnets ...

Been discussed so many times ...

Slot is here til summer, then he is not ... no way he starts next season at the helm of LFC ...

2 more months ... 8 weeks ... that's how much longer we still have to wait.

02 Apr 2026 12:27:18
He'll be aiming to win us the Europa League next season if he remains as manager.

02 Apr 2026 12:28:42
I believe the real ITKs and rely on common sense. There's not one hope in the world that he is the manager of LFC next season. Zero.

02 Apr 2026 12:55:34
Europa? We'd be lucky to make the Conference looking at our last three league results.

02 Apr 2026 13:01:16
Going through Joyce or Orstein is like the board indirectly given Slot the vote of confidence. And we all know what happens after a board gives that.

02 Apr 2026 13:12:05
Slot's gone as soon as Xabi's ready to come in.

02 Apr 2026 14:18:49
"If he loses the next game he's gone." ?

02 Apr 2026 14:34:46
I think Slot will go due to fan pressure, but I don't think Alonso will replace him.

02 Apr 2026 14:38:39
He's as accurate as the owners want him to be.

No decisions have been made yet, so the owners will back the manager.

02 Apr 2026 22:49:06
I want him gone today! We shouldn't even give him til the end of the season. He won the league with Klopp's team and he rode the wave, until he started to turn us s**** from the turn of the year.

This season we have been worse than that of Woy Hodgson era!

He is destroying the club more and more each week.
