Well, I know nothing about behind the scenes, but I am convinced that Gordon didn't just come over for the good of his health. I believe he and the other FSG boys have been monitoring our demise and he is now doing the job to rectify the issues.
There's change afoot without doubt and he's the man implementing it. I hope he cuts deep and clean. It's required.

Hughes and Edwards' data set missed some essential pieces - How transferable were Slot's attributes from pub league minnow to global giant? How might it affect his connection to the club and city that he goes home to at every opportunity? How will he cope when the chips are down, since he'd only had success prior to moving to the Reds? How much variation does he have in the toolbox? Was he actually committed to young players?
You can guarantee that there will be a wider lens used for future appointments and that there have been important lessons learned for all involved in this debacle - plus a lovely league title.
On the negative side, whoever comes in has to fit into the DOF system and let Edwards choose players for them, but what proof is there that, singularly, Edwards is a better selector of playing staff than an actual football manager?
Because the new man has to fit into the power structure, there are casualties like Xabi.
I am not convinced at all by the purchase of Isak or in trusting the vision of a power hungry individualist like Edwards. He is not a manager of people or a football coach, he is a data guy.

FSW, Xabi worked under a DOF model at Leverkusen where Rolfes secured a whole grip of excellent players for him to coach. The sporting director model is commonplace across Europe. It's just a matter of how much of a say the coach has in whatever players are coming in.
Handing the manager the keys to the kingdom is always a danger. United already proved that to be the case with Ten Hag and Amorim.

PatrikBurgher - Agreed, and as long as Edwards is in charge, there will be little say on who. Even the what is in question, since they also have a style in mind.
Where is the happy medium? imo that was Klopp, Ian & Edwards all working together.
Edwards and Hughes are maverick, and not always in a good way.
