Good morning fellow Reds
May I start by saying we were very, very lucky to get a point yesterday. We will take it and move on. Lots of negative things from yesterday's game, so I will try focus on the positives.
Jaquet looked really good. Araujo also looked good when he came on as did Munoz. Minteh looks done. And we are walking away from Barcola which is a positive. Trust me.
Toodles.
{Ed078's Note - you heard him folks, trust him...
24 Aug 2026 07:02:25
Gentleman don't lie.
24 Aug 2026 07:05:32
Trust me trousers. A small bean regarded.
24 Aug 2026 07:07:39
Based on yesterday's game, I don't think Jacquet was that good. He didn't look the quickest and got outmuscled that could have led to a goal. Certainly no better than Konate, probably worse, if I'm honest. Based on yesterday's game, of course.
24 Aug 2026 07:14:02
I thought Jacques's decision making was questionable, and that his focus wasn't good enough. Felt Araujo looked better when he came on.
Walking away from Barcola but getting Minteh? Not sure that represents good news. Minteh is fine, but Barcola has been the first choice for a long time. If we don't secure that deal, it can only be described as incompetence.
24 Aug 2026 07:24:42
Seano_, it could also mean the terms are not acceptable.
I don't believe we would wait this long and walk away, but if we do then we will end up overpaying elsewhere. This late in the window, prices go up!
24 Aug 2026 07:32:17
Is this "The Truth Vol 2"?
Trust me....ffs, is that what this has become!?
"Trust me, Bro". ?
24 Aug 2026 07:35:02
I'm with Irish, Jacquet didn't look the quickest to me either. I appreciate that you shouldn't judge after one game (but I tend to!), but he isn't suddenly going to get quicker.
24 Aug 2026 07:46:28
Have a day off, Nellie's!
We're talking about a 20 year old CB making his Premier League debut with just 45 mins of football in his legs in the last 7 months. F***.
I personally thought Andoni should have given Araujo the start because Newcastle is always a physical battle, which he is man made for.
Jacquet is young and will be inconsistent. The speed people want to judge and criticise is honestly embarrassing.
24 Aug 2026 07:49:15
@The Irish Rover -
Jacquet, 70 mins played.
100% tackles won.
42 passes with 90.5% accuracy.
Not bad for his first game.
24 Aug 2026 07:55:35
Well that's me told off! He's young and he also cost 60 million. I expected him to be quicker. I judge really quick, it's what I do.
24 Aug 2026 06:43:08
Haha Ed78. well, it's been screaming out that we need a RW and not a LW for at least 3 months so I'm glad they got there in the end.
The Rio experiment on the Right is not working, I think between him and Gakpo we are covered for LW.
Spend that money on a world class CM who can actually put his foot in and make a challenge.
{Ed078's Note - and that "world class" CM currently available is...?
24 Aug 2026 06:48:02
I sense a certain amount of sarcasm here Eds? ?
{Ed078's Note - your senses are correct
24 Aug 2026 07:57:27
Population paste, I think you mean a Slot badger.
24 Aug 2026 08:05:57
The two mids who would have been genuinely worth pursuing were Rodri, who wanted Barca and Sidiki who Sunderland wouldn't want to sell.
24 Aug 2026 08:23:46
Jacquet's defensive performance was overall a little bit spotty, but it was his first game in the Prem as a kid after a long injury layoff. His game on the ball, though, was class. Having a center half who can step out with the ball, draw the press, and carry, or have the confidence to fizz one to feet through the lines is such a rare asset.
You can already tell that he has all the skills to make it as a top level modern center half.
24 Aug 2026 08:28:57
Until one of Robbo, The Fields, Ned and VG says we walked away, I will believe it, as I can't see them all saying we are basically sorted it and then go actually f*** that and waste time would be an absolute embarrassment.
24 Aug 2026 09:00:40
Side Note. It's become something of a problem that posters on here can't say they want signings coz they get shot down by the usual "die hards" on here that hardly go the match if ever.
This is a transfer website at the end of the day. We need new players. Let them discuss it. ?
24 Aug 2026 09:03:34
Rio is not good enough for either wing, Skezza.
24 Aug 2026 09:07:25
Wirtz needs to play CF once Isak gets injured and we can go back to a more
solid MF 3. Defence starts from the front, and yet Edwards dream team signings are all lightweights.
The Edwards myth is well
and truly over.
24 Aug 2026 09:08:56
Rio and Frimpong must never be a pairing again down the right flank. Physically, they were just swatted away as flies, you have to have beef and muscle to play in this league.
Arajuo and Munoz were the RW pairing, muscle versus muscle. Quansah got hooked in his first game under Slot at half time because he was bullied.
The same thing happened yesterday down the right flank, and the same changes should have been made at half time also, like Heitinga did at Ipswich.
Only for the penalty, we would have deservedly lost.
24 Aug 2026 09:11:48
Surely nobody on here would disagree that we need signings, LFC8?
24 Aug 2026 09:16:59
If we don't buy Barcola in this window it will become a rumour/ruse of legendary status. It will supersede Simao and all the others.
24 Aug 2026 09:21:40
I agree with you fully, 007. If anyone thinks the squad does not require upgrading then to see that RHS yesterday has surely opened their eyes.
24 Aug 2026 09:23:24
There was zero threat from the wing, which allowed Newcastle to completely crowd the middle. A couple of wingers who can offer a threat, and it will free up the space for Wirtz and Isak. I'm not gonna slag off Rio, he was really poor, but he is a kid that is being asked to play out of position, because despite knowing that this would be the case for more than 6 months, we don't appear to have even settled on a RW target.
Gakpo took his goal well, but it came from him playing centrally. He seems much happier there than on the LW.
Barcola will make a difference when he comes in, and so will whichever RW we bring in. It will get better.
24 Aug 2026 09:24:31
I think our much stronger (in physical stature) left-hand side was exposed just as much, if not more, yesterday.
24 Aug 2026 09:32:34
@Ron, what do you mean if we don't get him? It's already done...
24 Aug 2026 09:41:38
That's what I saw, @KemlynKev. First goal was down the left, second goal started on the left (ok, and then went through midfield, before flirting with the right), but I worried more about opportunities created by Newcastle on our left than I did on the right.
I didn't think it was a great performance. But I trust the stats; we weren't lucky to come away with a draw. Over the entire game, we didn't deserve to lose, even with the penalty.
24 Aug 2026 09:52:27
Didn't look any different to last season. If we don't get a defensive midfielder, then the current options need to learn to sit, as we can't have both fullbacks and centre midfielders pushing on at the same time every time.
24 Aug 2026 09:57:14
Alan Hansen wasn't quick, was he rubbish?
Also, since when does 1 game make a player? The entitlement of some people.
24 Aug 2026 09:58:17
The ball over the top into either left or right caused us endless problems yesterday. It used to be knock it over Trent's head and you were in behind. Now it is knock it over the top to either side.
24 Aug 2026 10:12:29
Exactly, Reyrey1.
24 Aug 2026 10:19:55
Not sure if that's aimed at me, Jack Bower, but I never said Jacquet was "rubbish". My observation was the same as Irish. He didn't look the quickest. If that makes me entitled, I'll live with it!!
24 Aug 2026 10:26:51
Hall at LB had Rio in his pocket - what a signing that would be to replace Kerkez, who is a headless chicken at best, and LB is incredibly weak! Araujo at RB and Munoz RW would be a better option imo, and Isak needs to get more physical but he doesn't get service in his defence.
"Team in transition" can only be accepted for a limited period...
24 Aug 2026 10:38:23
Is Jacquet looking nervous more down to VVD making mistakes and blaming everyone else?
24 Aug 2026 10:41:09
If we're walking away from Barcola we'd still need another winger if we sell Gakpo with Minteh, because Rio is young, and the question is, can he play big matches and provide for the team, and the same with Munoz, so is there another winger that we're aiming for, and the other gap is the midfielder, which is fully in shadow.
24 Aug 2026 11:27:33
Shocking yesterday, but we got something from it. Move on.
We should have learnt that you cannot play two full backs that blast up the field, cannot deliver the ball in the box, so the move breaks down, and then we get slaughtered on the break. Instead of trying to take the ball, we drop off a full 50 yards as they waltz through the middle.
Munoz & Araujo did well, as did Jacquet. I would like to see Araujo instead of Frimpong.
Transfers? What is wrong with us. Do we have to keep buying injury-prone players? Frimpong, Gomez, etc., and now we want to pay £70M for Minteh who won't be available until October. For God's sake, get a grip!
24 Aug 2026 12:02:51
Fat Wallet nailed it in my opinion, I think all defence is looking worse due to VVD's play and finger pointing and arm waving. Young lads don't need that from their captain.
24 Aug 2026 12:07:57
Halls is a good player, with good consistent stats for at least a couple of seasons now. The Mancs want him apparently, hopefully they don't get him.
24 Aug 2026 14:07:40
Ed78.say that world class cm has a world class brother who plays rw and is also available.
Love the demand for these players but there's never actual suggestions of who they are.
Olise is mad keen to join i heard, diehard Liverpool fan since the womb, was going cheap too, bayern just don't want him. but we just weren't bothered making a bid.
