I could see Chelsea coming in for Wirtz if they sell Enzo, if we get close to making our money back on him, I’d be taking it all day long. He just does not have the aggression, dynamism or fight to work in our team. We need some presence in midfield, some real physicality and hunger. He doesn’t have that one exceptional skill/attribute either that makes it so he can’t ever be left out of the team.

I can see a scenario of City getting Enzo, Chelsea trying for Wirtz and us replacing him with Wharton, who I know doesn’t set the world alight, but I think he’d be much more influential in our team.

I keep hearing Wirtz needs this and that to perform, or that he’s ’obviously a great player.’ He’s simply not, he’s a good player, nothing more, and in a team that’s looking to fight on all fronts, he’s simply not good enough as a ‘marquee signing.’ Any player that needs the perfect storm to be able to perform to their ability is simply a liability and luxury we can’t afford.

It will be the same pattern with him, he’ll have a decent game against a poor team where we dominate, build up hopes that he’s turned a corner, and then have an absolute anonymous stinker when it actually matters.

What a load of absolute rubbish.

26 Aug 2026 00:09:03
Sunday must have been a dream come true for you.

26 Aug 2026 05:54:52
Why don't you tell us how you really feel about Wirtz?

26 Aug 2026 08:42:55
I think he has been crap, akin to Bobby under Rodgers, and look what happened with him when Klopp came in? Let's give him a break for the time being, see if Andoni can get a tune out of him.

{Ed0666's Note - yep wasn’t Bobby played massively out of position by Roger’s?

26 Aug 2026 09:13:53
Sell Wirtz and then what? Spend the next week in a desperate scramble with the world and his dog, knowing we desperately need to replace him? That's how we ended up with crap like Andy Carroll.

26 Aug 2026 11:59:24
Wirtz is a fantastic player. He is just in the wrong league and playing for a team who don't have the players to accommodate him right now. Using him as a square peg in a round hole just doesn't work. I can only imagine what he is going through. Fans and pundits saying all sorts of rubbish about him. Criky even an ex player of ours comes out on Sky and calls him nothing more than a tidy player who is worth only £60m! Utter nonsense. Wirtz is a great player but look at what he has around him, ill disciplined Grav a 6 who thinks he's an 8, Slob a 10 who plays as an 8, Gakpo an inverted forward who plays like one but occupies the central area too much, and Rio who is a kid trying to learn his trade in a team that has no depth to its squad.

Wirtz is not the issue. Richard Hughes and King Edward's have been, and in RH's case, continue to be the problem. Wirtz was an ego purchase by the chuckle brothers. He was needed, and we can't shoe horn him in unless we get a decent 8 to replace Slob, move Slob out wide to RW as the cover. Play Wirtz as the 10 and tell Gakpo to stay a little wider until we get a player who is used to staying out on the touch line. That way you can accommodate Wirtz and Isak whilst playing to their strengths. It is literally all we need to do to get us through. Apologies for the rant, as AI says it's not a personnel issue, it's a DF problem and his bloody ego.

Ed0666, Bobby was played at RB under Rodgers iirc

{Ed0666's Note - Thanks mate and lets not mention BR again ??

25 Aug 2026 22:32:11
How can anyone connected to the club watch most of last season and the game Sunday and still think we don’t need a proper DM?
1 week to go and it’s looking like only Barcola coming in. ??‍♂️

How are Chelsea able to sell Delap for 50m and Jackson for 60m?

26 Aug 2026 01:55:03
uf true Cody is definitely worth over 100m then going by them left backs, left back in the changies.

26 Aug 2026 03:52:35
Delap is a poor deal and Nottingham Forest, though they desperately need a striker, are overpaying.
Jackson, on the other hand, is a very underrated player, albeit profligate as a striker. 60m for Jackson is a much better deal than what Forest are getting. Liverpool wouldn't go near Jackson for that price, but he'd be exactly who I'd want as backup to Isak and Ekitike.

{Ed0666's Note - Jackson is the archetypal marmite player. I don’t care for him but I know many that think he’s under appreciated

26 Aug 2026 04:34:28
Oh definitely, Ed. He'll never be elite because he's fairly poor in front of goal, but his all round game is way above average in the Premier League in my opinion. He's also a yellow card magnet, but bizarrely I think that would be beneficial to this Liverpool team.

{Ed0666's Note - sadly at the moment it’s a low bar Lowel, most strikers would be beneficial in this Liverpool team.

26 Aug 2026 05:05:49
I'm sure he's got qualities, but imo Pedro is twice the player Jackson is.

26 Aug 2026 09:16:48
Thing is, however average Delap is, he's almost guaranteed to score against us at the weekend.

{Ed0666's Note - you can put your house on that mate

25 Aug 2026 21:02:27
My contacts are not at LFC anymore but at three London clubs. Two are through my partner. I’m hearing that we’re going to bid for Lamine Camara who was of interest to one of the London trio.

Anybody heard his name mentioned re us? I’m just unsure because I understood he had been scouted but rejected.

I was reading earlier that a French source that is considered reliable has said we are looking to bid for him also, but we have waited until later in the window to get him cheaper as the selling club are in a bad financial position and need money.

26 Aug 2026 06:48:56
Bearnaise at L'Equipe confirmed the deal with Camara was on. This was later denied by Beurre Blanc. We're miles apart on the fee.

{Ed0666's Note - doesent Beurre Blanc translate to white butter? Who is this Blanc person? A journalist or ITK?

26 Aug 2026 09:20:36
I think it is a joke about Bearnaise and Beurre Blank being classic French sauces Ed.

{Ed0666's Note - silly me, thanks mate.i appreciate the context.

25 Aug 2026 18:33:55
Did we sign BarryinLouth yet and how much for?

Agree3

25 Aug 2026 20:06:56
The deal is done 7 EUR + 3 EUR in add ons.

Ta.

{Ed001's Note - is that how much Bazza is paying for his ferry ticket?}

25 Aug 2026 20:20:11
I heard a rumour that in Louth he is known as "the Louth Lucas". Looks like we have got that no6 we need.

25 Aug 2026 20:31:43
His agent demanded 2 packets of Tayto and a novena. Almost lost him the deal.

25 Aug 2026 21:04:55
His Ferry leaves tomorrow Ed001 and he'll be here in time to start at RB instead of Frimpong this weekend.

{Ed001's Note - we aren't that desperate!}

The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase draw will be held from 18:00 CET on Thursday 27 August 2026.

The league phase begins on Tuesday 08 September 2026.

Is this why Barcola deal held up? Don't see anything relevant, perhaps other posters can?

Slot won the PL at his first attempt! My monies are on Andoni to eclipse that and win the UCL at his first attempt in Europe, on the lines of: anything Slot can do, I (Raola) can do better!

Having now watched the game twice I think we played a bit better than I initially thought, we were always looking to win the game from the off, the biggest concern was when the possession was turned over, going backwards at pace we were found to be seriously lacking.

Other takes were, Newcastle wanting Wissa to get a standing ovation, possibly cost them the win as our penalty was awarded after the proposed 5 added minutes.

Also we were the only 2 teams to play out a draw in the opening fixtures, and taking the first initials from the current top four the Premier League reads,…. BABE ?

YNWA.

Bajcetic to Vigo is almost complete.

Seems like a free with a sell-on.

What might have been. Barcelona made an approach for him two years ago; he was rated so highly.

Really wish this one worked out, but hopefully a return home will help him find his feet and push on.

Good luck Stefan and YNWA.

On the LFC channel training sessions he looked like he was racing again, if it's free (they must be paying his wages) then that looks like he's building himself up further, hopefully, with a return for next summer pre-season full assessment.

Makes sense, get ye playing time up without getting kicked up into the air all the time by the park the bus brigade every week.

I wonder whether Wrexham could have been considered, Andoni popping over to see him play now and again, and give him encouragement and updates on how he is playing.

Shame the lads got it all in bucket loads, but as they say, if there's hope there's always time.

25 Aug 2026 13:18:39
It looks like we have seen the last of Bajcetic too. The club and him have come to an agreement to release him from his contract so that he can rejoin Celta Vigo. A real shame how his career turned out. Had he developed in the way we all hoped when he first broke through, right now he would be the ideal player for the double pivot.

But got some really bad injuries and maybe didn't have the best attitude at times. However, it's always sad to see once promising youth prospects leave. I do hope he is finally over the injury nightmare and can start playing again.
