We are going unnoticed again this summer, which is good. I remember Slots' first season when we were written off to just top 4. We always do well when seen as the underdogs. Even under Klopp it was always City's title to lose.

We will definitely get unnoticed playing on Friday 4th September, Away to Ipswich Town, Kick Off 8.00pm (20.00 hrs) Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Premier League only.

Underdogs with 2 players that cost over £100m, at least one WC winner and Virgil and Alisson, who have won it all. :)

I didn't write off Slot's first season. For me he was left a PL winning team and they did.
We won't be winning the PL this season. For me, too many holes in the squad, players that still need to prove themselves, more new players arriving, the departure of Salah and the goals he scored.
If we get top 4 then I think Iraola will have done a decent job. If he wins the PL, then he is some sort of miracle worker.

The squad Slot inherited had one major weakness, central midfield, which Slot brilliantly filled with Gravenberch. The squad Iraola has inherited has about five major weaknesses.

I agree, top four is definitely the most realistic target.

Infantino and Trump massaging each other's egos, a pair of right cnuts
Trump said the tournament had become more than just a sporting event, calling it "one of the all-time greatest sporting events in history"

It's been s****. The worst I can remember. They've managed to Americanise the game, 2 halves to 4 quarters. A countdown to kick off. It's been cringey from start to finish. Also that American woman that comes on to explain decisions, that in 40 years of watching and playing football I've never heard of. That's without all the blatant match fixing, dodgy decisions, and Tramp sticking his nose in at every opportunity.
I hope we don't have to see another farce WC in the US for a long while. (It'll be a farce WC in another country instead probably), but at least I won't have to look at I show speeds stupid vacant mug every 5 mins.

I've liked it, to be honest. Far better than Qatar, great crowds, some great games, and some decent rules introduced to stop all the play acting, etc. Sure, you can always improve on things, but all in all it's been grand.

It's been a farce from start to finish. So many lowlights. I'm not going to go through them all.
The city of Boston inserting themselves into intra-British Isles relations and declaring England fans not welcome was a standout.
But the White House defending the Argentine players openly making jingoistic declarations to intimidate an island of less than 4, 000 was really beyond the pale. We still haven't heard any news about punishment yet.

My question was based on seeing players from the prem getting tackled and laying on the ground expecting the ref to award a foul. I’m not sure if FIFA send directives to the FA to follow or is it a case of each country interpretation of the rules. If so, this would be ever more apparent in future competitions.
18 Jul 2026 20:37:22
After the WC in which ref seems to be letting minor tackles go.Do you think this will be implemented in some way next season, and if so will that increase our need for a more defensive mid with extra bite?
Question to all and Ed's.Thamk you.

I can’t see Arsenal signing Barcola at 115-120 million, or they would have signed Rogers. I think Barcola stays at PSG anyway until at least the last week or 2 of the transfer window and keeps his options open. I think we still try for Diomande because I think the club is now panicking over the Mo situation and the mess we left ourselves in.
18 Jul 2026 20:03:38
Ed001 After losing so much money how can Chelsea sign Rodgers for£117m.
Record losses for the Premier League I think am right in saying no European football yet they are already at nearly £200m spend.
Yet Villa and Newcastle can't spend.

{Ed001's Note - they are selling players. They have a huge amount of fringe players.}

Test them for Estevao.

18 Jul 2026 20:28:47
Estevao's hamstring is absolutely buggered, I heard that he'll likely have serious injuries for the rest of his career due to the severity of it (it was a grade 4, which is the worst). Hard pass on that lad, he's as good as finished.

V strange Rodgers accepting move to Chelsea, who have no European football at all ahead of going somewhere else r staying at Villa who have Champ League football. Can see why an attacker wouldn't be that keen on going to Arsenal the way they play. I think Rodgers excellent player, and wouldn't have minded him at LFC.

We don't need a no. 10, Digger, we have Wirtz, Szob and Eliott.

Fly, missed half the season with repeat hamstring injuries. At only 19yrs old, that's a really bad sign. I'd be steering well clear until he can prove it's not going to become a long term issue.

Last two seasons they are net profit on transfers. Wages are also very low, but big incentives.

18 Jul 2026 21:00:31
If the worst comes to the worst, they can always sell Rogers to themselves in the future.

18 Jul 2026 20:33:11
Ed001 it all seems wrong Chelsea just seem to somehow spend what they want after break rules in the past yet the likes of Villa and Newcastle stick to to rules and get punished for doing so.
As for Rodgers does not show great drive to be the best.
Chelsea have been a mess for a long time now why he was not pushing for the Arsenal move just looks like money driving him.

{Ed001's Note - I think it was more about partnering up with his best mate, Cole Palmer.}

Apparently it wasn't far off a complete tear Chewy, grade 4 is severe, he's still out injured and that kind of injury will always return, sorry to say it but he's defective goods.

@VV, He is back in full pre-season training already though. It does make sense to wait out a year though and see how his hamstrings are holding up. But the lad had so much potential, it would be such a shame if his career would fizzle out like this.
18 Jul 2026 19:39:17
Wonder if the fact that Rogers is supposedly going to Chelsea will complicate our approach to Barcola.
Any of Carra, VG, Fields Robbo can shed a light?

I think we lose out. FAFO.

Unfortunately, I think I agree, Vik. If their plan is to pivot to Barcoa, then we are in trouble. I said a while back I could see him in an Arsenal jersey, just a feeling, he seems like a real Arsenal type player to me.

18 Jul 2026 21:16:03
But are Arsenal ready to spend the supposed amount that PSG are asking for?
Reports suggest they weren't prepared to meet Chelsea's price....and Barcola is somewhere near to that amount.
18 Jul 2026 19:12:34
Rodgers to Chelsea for £117m, lads.
Good player and only 23, but £117m? That's absurd money.

18 Jul 2026 20:33:16
When he has played for England, I thought he was quality. But there are better players for that cash.

Isak, second best striker in the Prem was £125m just 12 months ago. I can't wrap my head around these valuations. The market is insane this year, I know that lack of talent means inflated prices, but this window is taking the absolute piss, the way things are going, I don't see it recovering either, this is 'the new normal', I'm afraid.

I think the fees and the wages are absolutely disgusting. The majority of the country is afraid to use their central heating in the winter, and some of these guys are demanding more and more every year. For me, the standard has been dropping every year. Look at players like Jesse Lingard. Doesn't even care if he has a football career because he earned so much money in the first few years, he can just carry on like a rat bag for the rest of his life and waste his talent.
The game is gone. I enjoy grass roots, and Liverpool games. That's it. If I didn't support Liverpool, I would take nothing to do with Premier League at all.
1
{Ed001's Note - Lingard went to Korea so he could carry on playing, not sure you can say that about him.}
