Rabiot if you actually watch him play / is quick, progressive, strong . & extremely fit- why would you not want him for. Th next 3 years?

Agree4 Disagree0

24 Aug 2024 04:20:25
Because he's not good enough for a team wanting to challenge at the top and that's all there is to it, Agamemnon.
Keep the money, invest it properly, avoid the annoyance of Rabiot's mother, and fire Richard Hughes if he can't secure us some proper targets. Rabiot and the informed of the football world have known he was to leave Juventus since probably late last year - any club wanting him would have had 6 months, at least, to negotiate. Signing him now, for us at least, would be a last-minute panic buy and an admission we (again, and again) failed to secure our targets (like Endo last year, only Endo didn't come with huge wages and an ego to match) .

24 Aug 2024 06:51:44
Not good enough for a team wanting to challenge? Doesn’t he have 6 League titles, 16 domestic cups and 1 Nations League with France? ?

Sure thing pal, sure thing ??.

24 Aug 2024 07:49:44
If he was so good he would have been snapped up by now by a team willing to pay his wage demands. Seems like another pogba to me.

24 Aug 2024 07:58:43
Liverpool made an offer to Rabiot before they bid for Zubemendi so it ain’t a panic decision by any stretch.

24 Aug 2024 08:11:31
Marquinhos has 9 league titles, Kimpembe has 8. Neither are good enough to warrant us signing them, especially the latter.
I don't care how much Rabiot has won as a professional. John O'Shea and Jonny Evans would go down as better than van Dijk and Konate if that was the barometer.
I watch football and know he's not good enough to improve our team. Do you think Man City, Arsenal or Real Madrid are after Rabiot? Of course not; he's a modern-day Man Utd signing.

24 Aug 2024 08:12:45
Gotta admit the guys a constant in Frances squad, got to have a little something about him.

24 Aug 2024 08:29:10
Some of the absolute statements put forward as verified facts…. like, as if title chasing teams have 25 players who are all world class first choice players for any team.

24 Aug 2024 08:53:41
I’m not mad at the Rabiot links if I’m honest, I don’t believe we will sign him but if we did it wouldn’t be a terrible signing like some are making out. This guy has won wherever he has played, he is strong, combative and wins his duels in the centre of the park. He’s 29 which means he isint blocking youth like bacjetic. Rabiot is left footed and plays accross a number of positions so gives the team/ squad balance and he doesn’t cost the world! People hate on him because of his mother and media reports about transfers and negotiations but to be honest I couldn’t care less, our own players do the exact same and we soon forgive them when the ink is dry, think of Salahs team offering him around to the highest bidder putting out tweets on social, Diaz and his Constant courting of Barca, they all do it!

Again I don’t think we will sign him because I actually don’t think he will choose us but if we did he would be a far better option than Endo!

24 Aug 2024 09:13:35
Agamemnon, it seems you are working way too hard to convince us thet Rabiot is good enuff. Quick and strong are two things Rabiot has never been accused of being, for starters.

MKS, those titles and Cups he won were with PSG and Juve when they were dominating their league (Juve were cheating for some of those years, btw) . Just like Bayern or yeah Juve, no one cares what PSG wins either so I don't rate that.

The guy ain't good enuff and heaven forbid, we have to deal with his mom. Like @Lowel said, keep the money until you can do better and we can definitely do better than Rabiot, IMO.

24 Aug 2024 09:41:24
I agree, seems like a typical Man U signing. No point managing the wage bill then bringing in someone who is not top class and giving them huge wages. It’s the wrong message.

24 Aug 2024 09:50:26
De Bruyne is going to be gutted his League medals don’t count for much because City have dominated our league for years ?.

24 Aug 2024 09:53:03
Lowe/ Oli, irrelevant on every count. Lowe, you said he’s not good enough for a team that wants to challenge and that’s clearly nonsense because he has 500 games for Juventus, PSG and France in an era where they’ve all not only challenged, but been successful.

I don’t care whether you rate the magnitude of his success, the strength of Serie A/ Ligue 1 etc. the simple FACT is that he played as a regular for 3 sides that have consistently challenged at domestic, European and International level so the initial statement was absolute bollocks.

As for the John O’Shea and Jonny Evan’s line, that’s laughable. They were squad players. Merely cover. Rabiot was a regular starter in all those teams so how is that a legit comparison. A better comparison would be somebody like Michael Carrick or Gary Neville. Was he ever the best player in the team? No. But he was a regular and a key part of the success.

24 Aug 2024 09:59:40
isn't his wage in the 150k a week range?

I'd assume he'd want more if he moves. Not sure i'd be putting money there unless i knew he was the best we could get.

24 Aug 2024 10:04:05
Come on guys, seriously have you ever watched a full game with Rabiot? I mean the france stuff is just nonsense, my grand mother would looks great in their midfield with Ngolo Kante running for 3 players! The guy is not quick or strong, and have terrible decision making, shoots when he should pass, passes when he should shoot and is just a big lump with no real outstanding attributes, holds onto the ball for too long and just runs circles around himself (apparently that is skill) The france manager is not that great either, look at the talent at his disposal yet france are almost just as boring as England and keep getting knocked out in quarters and semis'.

Take Rabiot out of the teams that won those trophies and i guarantee those teams would still win those trophies, as a matter of fact i think they would have won them easier without him.

I hope we still go for Ederson, Man Utd are trying to sign him and ed002 says something could be done, why not us? let's go and get him wrapped up if Atalanta are willing to sell him to Manutd!

24 Aug 2024 10:11:01
Some of the takes on here, man.
Are people that desperate for a signing that Rabiot is now the guy?
Imagine if you'd proposed that at the beginning of July - a load of sales and a sole incoming: Rabiot.
This is not FIFA, where you can coach a team of Andre Wisdom and Danny Guthrie to a 3-0 win at the Etihad.

@Dow-ney
When Rabiot joined Juventus they were on a 10-year winning streak in Serie A. That record lasted a further year and they've been a joke ever since. Signing the likes of Rabiot, Emre Can, De Ligt and other unserious players (which you should be able to see) very quickly reverses the fortune of good teams.

24 Aug 2024 10:17:08
Rabiot. Last week of the window ? yeh that’s a panic buy. Trying to justify it because you backed Hughes early on and he’s failed.

24 Aug 2024 10:23:45
Fiskesprett, I presume you’ve had a long and successful managerial career at an elite level then for you to say that Blanc, Emery, Tuchel, Pochettino, Allegri and Deschamps are all so clueless that they consistently picked a player who made their team less likely to win.

As ever, the lack of balance when assessing a potential new player is totally absent from the debate on this site. They’re either the perfect signing and the next Busquets, or an absolute immobile lump who wouldn’t get a game for our u18’s. There is seemingly no in between.

This! Perfectly said Lowe1FC.

Just throw a bunch of names of teams and managers doesn't make Rabiot any better than he actually is. 90% of the managers you mention are very average overrated managers as well. You could win the CL with Real Madrid and you are just a Super fan on a forum getting his panties in a twist because people think an average player is exactly what he is = AVERAGE.

24 Aug 2024 10:38:00
If we sign Rabiot then perhaps his mum can do battle with Diaz dad.

Bit of half time entertainment.

24 Aug 2024 10:56:06
Lowe/ Fisk, I don’t care if you don’t want to sign him and I’m not upset by your opinions. Nobody was calling me a ‘super fan’ last season when I was calling out Klopp and the players for bottling a league title they should’ve won. You both just sound like children and I am embarrassed for you. Saying he’s not even as good as your grandmother and diminishing all his achievements in the sport with whatever excuse you can come up with. Calling him lucky. Calling him a lump. It’s complete and utter hyperbole. If you were being reasonable about it, you might be taken more seriously. I had several very good standard debates about Rabiot last summer with another poster (I think FlyPelicanFly) who disagreed with me then that he would be a good signing. But he did so with a structured and well thought out argument. Another poster made a great point about City winning 6 of the last 7 league titles. So is that it? Are Rodri and De Bruyne also not that great. After all, their success has come in a weak 1 team dominated league as well by your logic.

Juventus fell off a cliff in my opinion mainly because of the Ronaldo show. He did the same to United as well and cost 2 managers their job. Best thing EtH has done as United manager was throw him out the door almost immediately before he caused even more lasting damage. Juventus beat Atalanta in the Italian Cup final last season by the way and Rabiot bossed the midfield against many players (Ederson, Koopmeiners etc) who you’d all be ecstatic if we signed, probably because they’d cost €40-60m.

LFC8, If you look up my posts you’ll see that Rabiot was actually one of my preferred choices last summer when we were looking to buy 3 or 4 midfielders. So this has nothing to do with me wanting to big him up to justify my support for Hughes and Slot. Another poster also pointed out that we’ve been tracking Rabiot all summer and made an offer to him before Zubimendi even. So how is it a panic buy?

24 Aug 2024 11:02:33
I always like how you bring a sprinkle of humour to a debate, JK.

I honestly don't know enough about Rabiot do join in the debate.

Me and MK don't always agree-in fact we disagreed yesterday-but I have a lot of time for how he presents his argument. Like a high court barister!

24 Aug 2024 11:19:53
Just throwing insults around again, YES i think most of these managers are average and lucky, you don't know me so stop spouting nonsense. how are you even allowed to keep insulting any opinion just because you are a follower and accept that because someone is in a position of power must mean they are great and know everything.

Rabiot is average, no one said he is the worst player ever or trying to hype him up just like you do, you are actually the one who lacks any sort of balance, its your way or the high way, when your way is often more rose-tinted and delusional most of the time.
Any player looks good with highlight videos, watch a full match, you come here pretending to watch all this football but you know you don't. Because if you did, you would never say Rabiot was a very good footballer.

Calling Zubemendi a flake when ed002 said all along that the player needs convincing and actually never accepted a move to us but was thinking about it. Throwing insults just shows how insecure you are, and no am not a great manager and not a scout but i don't need to be because i focused on more important things in my life, you're acting like life is fair and every one gets what they deserve, not like the WORLD is run by incompetent people who only care about themselves and their pockets and that 90% of the managers you are talking about became managers based on their former careers as great players not because of their amazing tactical knowledge. Again, when you are already in a position of power its easier to get the job! Not like Ancelotti or Dechamps weren't great players or that Zidane wasn't the GOAT. No they got the managerial jobs because they were the absolute best men for the job, nonsense, how naive are you. Ofcourse some will become great but again none of the managers you mention have ever done any managerial miracles. Winning the German league with bayern, winning the world cup with france, winning the CL with Milan then Madrid (Its what is expected when they have the best team possible) I mean Ancelotti's Milan side is could be managed by a donkey and win everything, they litarally had a Legend of the Sport at each position.

24 Aug 2024 11:22:25
Last word from me on this.
@MK Scouser
De Bruyne and Rodri are great players; Rabiot is not. No other comparisons or false equivalences needed.
"I am embarrassed for you" - then you are (very) easily embarrassed.

@Rome1977
If you think that's the level of a high court barrister, the world should breathe a sigh of relief that you aren't one.

24 Aug 2024 12:15:03
Unfortunately Rome, if I speak I am in trouble ?.

24 Aug 2024 16:02:32
Slow your roll, MKS. Why is my comment irrelevant? Is it irrelevant cos you said so? Listen, you may thik Rabiot is good enuff and that's fine. What you're not going to do is start telling people their points are irrelevant. That's not on, mate. And you bigging him up this way, does not suddenly make him better than he actually is. I've known Rabiot since he was in the youth system at PSG and trust me, he ain't that guy.

You may not care about his record of winning trophies playing for the one team that wins in a one team/ farmer's league but the rest of us do. Even worse for you is that him playing in succh teams in a one team league shows he may not be able to hack it in a tougher league with a team that doesn't win all the time. Did you think about/ consider that at all or did you just dismiss other people's points cos you had no retort? Just asking.

Oh wait, scratch that. You're out of the debate so we'll leave it there, then. Peace.

24 Aug 2024 18:00:43
I don't know why fans are hating on Rabiot, because his mother has a reputation of being hard to deal with. Let Edwards deal with her. We should be judging him on how he plays on the field and to be honest, he is a quality operator I think he would be a great player for us. He would bring us that Physical presence in Midfield that we lacked last season.
I certainly wouldn't be unhappy if we bought him in.
