I was in Florence for a few days last week, they have a lot of love for Batistuta still, it got me thinking of football Italia in the 90’s reminiscing.
I would have loved Batistuta at LFC, especially in this team.
Who else remembers those days and who would you love to of seen?

Honestly there are too many to mention. Serie A in the 90’s was the strongest any league has ever been, every single team had at least one world class player. You even had players like Batistuta, Abel Balbo, Oliver Bierhoff, Christian Vieri, Gheorghe Hagi and Diego Simeone playing in Serie B. It was the pinnacle of world football.

Baggio, Baresi and Maldini.

I'm pretty sure Roy Evans wanted to buy batigoal back in the day?
I would have loved to have desailly as a 6 or a 4 at the height of his pomp, an incredible player. I'm pretty sure we tried to buy him too but he decided on Chelsea. Davids at juve and seedorf at Milan, also two of my favourite players of all time.
And probably my favourite of all- zanetti, though he would never have played anywhere other than inter.

Baggio was awesome. I liked ravenelli was linked to us and ended up in Middlesbrough.

I remember the Batistuta and Rui Costa combination was lethal.

Should have gotten Gattusso back in the day. He would shame every central midfielder today. How bloody good was that Milan side under young Carlo.

It was a fantastic time for football.

Batigol is a funny guy, never really liked football at all. It was just a job to him and he couldn't wait to retire. He doesn't ever talk about it since retiring.
Wasnt just goals made him popular his contracts had two unusual clauses - 1. His game shirts had to be auctioned off for charity after every game. 2. 10% of his salary would be given to charity and had to be matched by the club also.
He also once had a bet with the club president that he could break the goal post with a shot, loser did a week's worth of unpaid and unpromoted charity work. He did indeed break the goal post during a game and made the president do charity work.
My personal two favourite ever players are Bobby baggio and luiz nazario Ronaldo. The two most complete forwards ever in my opinion. If you ever meet Ronaldo in person he's a very friendly guy and loves talking to fans, he's also more than once randomly played on fans 5 and 7 a side teams in the UK.

Maradona inspiring napoli to couple of league titles against all the odds is my main memory.
For a player that lfc would've needed at that particular time I would say Desailly.

Baggie and Weah. Ronaldo when he was at inter. Best era of football by a mile WC98 for sure my favourite World Cup out of the ones I’ve been alive for.

Crespo, Baggio, Del Piero, Batistuta, R9, George Weah, Nedved, Zidane. And that’s just getting started and not even looking at the unreal defenders (my personal fav being Thuram) .

Imagine Maradona in a Liverpool shirt. We would have been the most hated team in England by a country mile.
Batistuta is the one we should have got. Built to score goals.

Batistuta and socrates.

I still remember the Baggio to Liverpool teletext headline (page 140). What a few seconds that was.

Nedved was great as well.

What a list above of great names, Batty gol (Batastuta nickname), when he retired/ left Florance they put a statue up almost immediately of him as a mark of respect to him.
I remember watching Florence v Mancs, European game, I was in the pub with Mancs, telling them Batty gol will destroy them, got mocked lots, till he scored 2, boy did I like just sitting back with my grin.
To add, I was a big Baggio fan too.
