We wanted mount, he chose United for money, then we went and got Szoboszlai instead. If I recall correctly it all happened very fast.

That was the window where we bought Macca, Szob, Grav, and Endo. So either one of them could be the player we bought in lieu of Mount. Tbh, I'm not even sure we were in for him that season since it mostly seemed to be media noise. And of course, from Viktor too who was preaching that we wouldn't sign any quality players and would end up with him, Berge, and Adama ;)

Mac was done pretty quickly. Szob was the one we went for after the Mount links. Endo and Grav were quite late in the window.

To be fair RR, I would've take Lavia, he looks decent in all honesty but didn't we much him around trying to chase Caicedo and then when we went back he'd decided to join Chelsea too!

Signing Mount for £60m just after hip surgery, was crazy. Man United all over. Mount was a very good player for Chelsea but hip surgery is what did for Thiago too. Thiago made 97 appearances in his first 3 seasons for Liverpool, then after his hip surgery he only made 1 appearance in his 4th and final season. It ruined him, and it's ruined Mount. Shame for him as he is still young unlike Thiago, who felt he'd achieved enough in the sport to retire. Mount is fighting to get back but I just don't see it ever getting any better for him. Hip injuries and shoulder injuries are never the same no matter how minor or successful the surgery is.

What I will say Viktor is it’s easy to hindsight now about how you didn’t want us to sign Mount.
You don’t want us to sign most players lol
I’m sure you didn’t want us to sign Macca, Szobozslai and Gravenberch either - and look at how that turned out!

Navy I was very keen for us to sign Mac as he is an absolutely top drawer midfielder, think he’s one of the best in Europe, he’s got the lot, work ethic, skill, intelligence in and out of possession, great passer and can shoot, proper centre midfielder, the fact we look weaker without him says how good he is. Mount on the other hand is a nothing footballer, too weak to be a centre midfielder, too slow to be a winger, not intelligent enough to be a number 10. I’m delighted he’s at Man United and cost them not only the thick end of £60m and an eye watering salary, but also cost them over half the money they got for being in the Europa league final. You’ve got to laugh at them.

Let me try doing a Viktor analysis of that window
Endo- old and has the turning circle of a leaky tanker, it's just like us to replace one broken down old jalopy without an even more broken down old jalopy.
Mac Allister- classic big fish in a small pond, small, slow, flatters to deceive and has all the physicality of an empty trash bag blowing in the wind.
Gravenberch- here we go buying Bayern's sloppy seconds again, a total bust like Renato Sanches, haven't we learned anything from buying thiago?
Szoboszlai- fancy luxury player with a pretty boy haircut who thinks he's Gerrard but is actually closer to a poor man's Gareth Barry, a highlight reel YouTube superstar if there ever was one.

I liked Mount - a fit and firing Mount would have been a good fit in a Klopp midfield but the term 'fit and firing' is key and you never know how a player will return after his surgery
Been injured again so much and I think it was Szobs we went for when he chose Utd who I really rate, great work ethic.
