Hi Ed1, now that the transfer window is closed and hope you have a few days rest.
I know he had gone to Madrid and we had move on as a squad, but like to ask about Trent still.
Recall back in 2019, when I travelled from Singapore to watch us beat Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield. At the end of the game and long celebration (the YNWA in front of the kop), where all the players had returned to the dressing room, he is there, the local lad, doing the lap of honour around the stadium.
I know it was mentioned that he was ready to sign a new deal but an offer was not forthcoming, and Klopp exit was the trigger for him to start reconsidering his future. That was back in the 2023/ 24 season.
We won the league last season. Mo and Virgil signed extensions. Virgil mentioned the club will have a big summer. So I suppose the players were informed of the club summer plan.
So I can’t get my head around on why he wants to leave. Is our summer transfer plan not exciting enough for him to stick around?
He is saying that the opportunity to challenge himself in new environment is the reason. However, I am wondering if there is more to this.
Hence, my question is
1. How far back did he actually agree to join Madrid? (If you have more insights)
2. What was our expectations in terms of transfer at the start of the summer in terms of in and out? (Pretty sure we exceeded expectation. or were we expecting to sign all the players we signed from the very start? )
{Ed001's Note - 1. I don't know sorry, but I would assume he decided just after Klopp left. He didn't enjoy working under Slot as much, because Slot asked for more out of him than Klopp defensively.
2. Maybe not the particular players, but the plan was pretty much what happened, the only real difference was that they wanted one more wide right attacker (or player who could cover there) and Wirtz. No one expected Wirtz as he was expected to join Bayern and Bayern had basically put out the message that they would sign him. Obviously he had different ideas!}

He went to the biggest football club in the world. It wouldn't be for me but RM attracts the best players in the world.

Couldn't handle Slot not coddling him but thinks he needs a new challenge.
Used to be Trents biggest supporter but starting to think we are better off.
04 Sep 2025 12:00:23
The problem is, Rigsby, it's hard to imagine a local lad growing up down the road from Anfield and whose footballing god was/ is Stevie thinking that any team in the world is bigger than Liverpool. Like any of us I'm sure that he didn't grow up following Real, they were always simply an obstacle on our path towards ol' Big Ears.
04 Sep 2025 11:54:45
I agree, Ed. I think he decided to go as well, due to Klopp's departure.
04 Sep 2025 12:18:33
It is hard to imagine; you're right, PB. Most of us don't get to play for Liverpool and win PLs, CL and fA and League Cups though. I imagine I'd still want to do it with Liverpool but I'm not TAA. He obviously sees things differently.
Maybe playing at the biggest club in the world and Ballon d'Ors are new challenges. He seems the type to want more and more and, as I said, the best players want to go to Madrid.
I don't begrudge him the move but I hope he wins nothing there.
04 Sep 2025 12:28:27
He agreed the Madrid move before he started learning Spanish he was tapped up ages ago.
04 Sep 2025 12:41:27
I don't think Slot was too impressed by trent defensively n has mentioned it a couple of times in interviews. but he's made his bed, let him lie in it.
04 Sep 2025 13:22:15
Has anyone thought to themselves I’d like to go and work in another country, one where the culture is similar enough but different enough to want to experience, where the weather is better, maybe the country is better / safer, tax is less et etc. I know I have. He took the opportunity to do that and at a massive club. Maybe that’s all there is to it.
04 Sep 2025 14:12:33
It’s a shame because nobody will show him love when his career is over.

Ed1 "he didn't enjoy working under Slot as much, because Slot asked more out him than klopp defensively"
At Madrid every defensive duel he lost will be scrutinize and criticized by the manager and fans irrespective of the manager there. Maybe trent rather went there to challenge himself defensively. Slot didn't dropped him when he was jogging against uted and unbothered in many games last season, so i don't see where Slot asked much of him defensively.
Literally, klopp advised and influenced his move. No surprised klopp returned during our title coronation to preach moral high ground because Liverpool fans booed him. Klopp himself ran away 2yrs to his new contract yet Trent refused to renew his contract at the club.
I know our fans hate to hear any criticism of klopp because he understood the fans emotions and spent his 9 years working on gaining fans sympathy.
FSG never shy away of investing in the team before klopp when necessary. They sanctioned record transfer on Carroll, signed Suarez, Coutinho etc. Backed klopp with record keeper and defender besides Mane, Salah, Fabinho, Keita etc. Later klopp was playing helpless in transfers and manipulative tactics which makes fans bought to his antics and questioned FSG interest in football. I think this window might have clear FSG name from stingy narrative tag. If the manager want to play underdog and doesn't want to spend how is it the owners fault?
{Ed001's Note - who was he meant to drop him for last season? What a ridiculous comment. As for what the fans do, not sure how that is relevant when he got the same criticism in England. You are clearly just trying to slag off Klopp, you ungrateful cretin. Without Klopp we wouldn't have Slot.}
04 Sep 2025 14:55:22
Imagine if RM came in for szob to replace him ha. I had no problem with him or anyone leaving just the fact he was sneaky about it saying he wasn’t decided whilst learning Spanish knowing his mind was made up, deserves all the hate that’s afforded him.

That makes 2 posts I've read from Abu that shows his recent lobotomy has been successful! Congrats.

"Literally, klopp advised and influenced his move".
So do you have any evidence to back up such a grave accusation?
Or are you just using the force like Star Wars?
04 Sep 2025 15:41:11
Ed1 already getting angry because of klopp name.
Who is playing for our right back now when Frimpong and Bradley are injured?
Nunez was dropped and Diaz played out of position in almost all our games last season. Managers always make statement if he feels a player doesn't want to play for him, Slot could have easily done that to Trent.
I am grateful to FSG. According you, without Rodgers we wouldn't have klopp?
Those who signed klopp are the same owners who brought in Slot, so klopp has nothing to do with Slot appointment.
I've seen you slag off Mane for chasing money, are you ungrateful to him? Because Mane and co was vital to every klopp success at the club.
Fabinho recently account how he was stifffled out when he thought his gaffer will say something.
Last season P. Joyce wrote about how klopp was planning to replaced Salah with Anthony and Liverpool fans was upset meanwhile he has been reliable and well informed about the club.
Yes, klopp did his managerial job well just like Ancelotti would have done if he was appointed ahead of him and any other manager would have. He also has his flaws just like any other manager.
Now stating how FSG backed their managers unless a manager who doesn't want to spend is slagging off klopp?
{Ed001's Note - this is just imbecilic gibberish. Wasting everyone's time with your moronic utterings. What the heck is any of this crap? I keep seeing you troll and I am done with it. And if I was angry, rather than just embarrassed for you, I would have deleted your post and had your account deleted. I should have done that just to avoid wasting my time reading your dross.}

As long as Klopp isn't going to fly in again and tell us off about how we feel about Trent.
04 Sep 2025 15:49:53
I still don’t get this, he didn’t do anything wrong in my eyes. The club moves on without him but there is no need to diss him, he was great for us and can anyone blame him for wanting to try something new? I don’t understand why people take it so personally that he doesn’t want to play for the club, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t love the club and the city. If joined an English rival I would of course have a different view.

I think we have a new nominee for worst/ most uninformed post in the history of this website.

Got to love it when the numpties keep digging a deeper hole for themselves.

I’m old enough (just) to remember when Keegan left.
No-one could understand why he made that decision. Various explanations were offered, but years later Keegan did an interview where he said Liverpool was never the same for him after Mr Shankly left. He had been the one who believed in him, championed him, stuck by him - he felt he owed him everything.
Maybe that’s how Trent felt about Jurgen. It would never be the same without the person who gave him the chance, believed in him and changed his life.
I’m probably wrong, but I remember Trent being absolutely distraught on the pitch at Jurgen’s farewell. Maybe it’s just that?
04 Sep 2025 16:45:48
Klopp didn't tell you how to feel towards Trent Pelican, he told you how to act towards Trent. There's a difference.
04 Sep 2025 16:56:41
Flash, I guess being strong and relentlessly wrong (headed) is still the norm out here.
04 Sep 2025 18:40:39
Simple really. He wanted to go and play with his bestie and the thought of playing in a much much nicer country is a massive factor. His partner would of been in his ear too. Good luck to the lad.
Hes a rat, we know the way he left. But wouldn't you be tempted to go and sample life abroad, with the state of this country. If he'd of come out the summer before and admitted that's what he wanted to try, maybe in 2 or 3 years there could of been a route back to his hometown club. But he'll be a Owen and end up playing for a rival on return. Leave him be, hope he has a good time over there but when he eventually crawls back, that'll be a different story.

I agree with Man. of. todd
He was a great player for us, he won everything, he saw his contract out and never disrespected the club or its fans. Then at the end of it all we got £10m for one month.
What more do we want?
Good luck to him, he’s a legend of the club in my eyes.

I get the frustration to a certain extent, but I agree with you Ron. Personally, I’ve got nothing against him and genuinely wish him well - he didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t buy into the idea that he’d already made his mind up about Madrid months in advance, and even if he had, none of us truly know. If that was the case, he probably didn’t want to create unnecessary disruption while we were pushing for the title by announcing it early.
At the end of the day, I’m not too bothered by it all. He played a huge part in helping us win trophies, and for that I’ll always be grateful. That said, don’t get me wrong - I hope he never wins another thing again simply because it’s Madrid. But as for him as a person? I genuinely wish him nothing but the best. After all, he’s one of us.
Calling him a 'rat' says a great deal about you magico, not him.

A lot of reactions and energy wasted on a troll.
