I understand where Chrissy is coming from, I have had my season ticket for over 35 years, I have seen incredible players, great teams, brilliant football, I have also witnessed the complete opposite.
Sometimes its difficult to remove the emotion and passion as a fan, it still raises hairs on the back of my neck when YNWA plays before the game, and I think 'why can't these guys respond to that and put in a performance '!
I feel Arne Slot is just setting up not to lose, try and nick a win, its not nice its not pretty to watch.
The substitutions were not done to win the game, for me Wirtz should have stayed on and played through the middle, kerkez on for robbo, maccaroni for jones, all resting a few guys for Sunday! They were just safe substitutions!
As much as its horrible to watch, if this is steadying things, build a foundation to stop conceding and then release the handbrake again and start playing with a bit more intensity at a quicker pace and play more attacking football then fine.

Last thing I want is him getting the boot and move from 1 manager to the next while falling away completely! Spent to many years doing that! The issue for me is, if it is a Hughes/ Edwards problem who and when will sort that out and could it be too late by the time it its sorted!
Everyone is entitled to an opinion and everyone has one, we may not share or like them all, but that is what makes football so captivating,
One thing shared on this site is the love of LFC and its brilliant.
Would be interested in the Eds honest opinion on if they think the simple fix is to change manager and who really is out there that is not only available but shows the qualities and attributes to be potentially the right man?

{Ed001's Note - changing the manager would not fix everything, no, but it should make the football better to watch and be a change for someone who would use the players he has better.}

what if the football looks better, but the results are wose.

Happy 2026, @Boofs and I take all your points. Firstly, I heard Wirtz was carrying an injury and Slot still played him. That shows his desperation to not lose his job is crazy to the point of risking the health of one of our best players, should this be true and maybe Ed01 can clarify.

Now I agree with you that he made safe subs. in a bid not to lose the game BUT again, why did he now try to win the game from the outset cos the way we were playing literally shows this? We took NO risks in from the off so again, Slot's approach doesn't make sense.

Lastly, sacking the manager won't fix everything indeed; However, how many things are actually broken here, to begin with? Not much, IMO. Hence, sacking the manager would fix a WHOLE lot of things whether we do it now or in the summer. The players get a fresh view of things, new tactics, systems, energy and new motivation etc. You get the point.

Remember, sacking BR and hiring Klopp did not fix everything at the start BUT it fixed a whole bunch of stuff from the off and the rest is history. Cheers, man.

Not sure the results could have got worse . we lost 9 out of 12 . and while we are unbeaten in 7 . The teams we have played were all beatable . we have drew a few of them.

03 Jan 2026 09:56:45
I agree that sacking the head coach and bringing in a new one would solve a lot of things but that is also dependant in us getting the right one in too. Bringing in someone like Ange or Maresca is just asking for trouble and that would create more problems that it would solve.

The performance is poor now and I don't think slot is the right person to take us forward now, especially since he has not done anything to show us that he can turn things around. As of now, as long as the isn't a clear choice as to who we can get and go for, I think Slot stays.

03 Jan 2026 10:00:04
Oh my.

Manager under pressure
Players with injuries
Board members being questioned about their abilities
Manager vs Head Coach
Boring football
Useless tactics
Questionable Substitutions

This all sounds exactly what is happening at Chelsea
You can literally go onto their rumors pages, read the posts and it is very similar to what is happening here

Im going to watch their situation around the Manager very closely.
Irrespective of who they bring in, im interested to see the reaction of the players and if they fair better wrt their results.

03 Jan 2026 10:03:58
Happy new year Oli, I respect your opinion and agree with a change of manager However, only if due diligence is done and we get potentially the right guy. I fully understand their are no guarantees but I just don't want to see us bounce from manager to manager again and fall further and further away!
It was very cold and wet the other night and a tough watch .

I just want him to turn it round .

03 Jan 2026 10:09:31
Kerkez, Chiesa, MacAllister, Gakpo and Ngumoha are not safe subs.
I got the feeling that Slot was protecting Wirtz by taking him off.

03 Jan 2026 10:47:30
If Slot would at the very least see the limitations of the type of football that he is implementing and get back to football which wins games in the premier league and uses the players he has at his disposal instead of doubling down on this utter crap football that doesn't work either on the pitch or in the stands.

The silence in the stadium against Leeds was deafening he should acknowledge that fact and for gods sake change.

03 Jan 2026 10:52:39
Oil

May concern over a new manager- and due diligence being undertaken- is those overseeing the process

Edwards, Hughes chose Slot and his back room staff and we are where we are now.

Anyone could see this transition about halfway through last season - if they'd taken their "we're top of the league" blinkers off

Tis direction of travel to this style of play has not happened this season- or after the PSG defeat but was before that.

They chose wrongly- and who is to say they'll chose right next time round.

Hughes is nowhere near the standard or experience needed for a top club.

03 Jan 2026 11:29:31
Faith, can you name clubs that play better, exciting and easy on the eye brand of football out there but has worse results than us?

03 Jan 2026 11:29:36
I'd be more than happy if the club appointed Iraola in the morning. I believe he has what it takes to succeed.

03 Jan 2026 11:31:45
Faith in works, the football is rubbish and so are the results. We are scraping wins and unconvincing. It stands to reason that if the football is better the results will follow, especially with the quality we have.

03 Jan 2026 11:32:39
They chose wrongly?
Slot's had one full season and won the League.
We're not going to win the League every season. We're not always going to be entertaining; we never have been.
Slot should be judged on results and he's earned some breathing space because of those since 2024. Add to that, a lot of new players taking time to settle and/ or being injured have made this season not the stroll many expected it to be.

There has been little consolation to take from the performances, either, but I find it hard to judge Slot when I don't even know what he wants to do.
Give him the chance to fail unless it's going to cause even more harm but no one can know that for certain.

JLC interesting post. I was listening to a phone in recently and the Tottenham discussion was like a cut and paste of this site, and so was the Manchester United based thread.

There's a general and growing sense of unease and disconnection between fans and their clubs. We're mostly being fed mediocrity in terms of performances and entertainment, charged big bucks for it at the gate or over the streaming services, and then being told how fantastic it all is by the marketing teams.

There's also a lack of honesty from coaches and players when they get interviewed, and those pulling the strings like Richard Hughes are silent and seem to have little accountability for their failings.

Interesting times indeed. It feels a bit like living in the football equivalent of the Truman Show at times.

03 Jan 2026 11:36:55
Very captivating discussions here

I just hope to hear from the OP, how having maccaroni on the pitch will make a difference? Cause I'm willing to spend that money to get the team a plate of that if it's going to be the difference maker!

03 Jan 2026 11:43:05
Oli, Klopp was on the cusp of becoming one of the greatest coaches the game has ever had, replacing an egomaniac with serious tactical limitations and the worst eye for buying players that a Liverpool manager has ever exhibited save for Hodgson. It's not exactly a fair comparison, Klopp was pretty much the closest thing to a dead certainty in coaching that we have ever seen.

03 Jan 2026 11:56:43
Football, like most sport, is a business now Hugo.

And what business out there gives the whole truth?

I agree with your points, we pay bug bucks to get fed the slop that these teams are dishing out.

03 Jan 2026 11:58:06
Slot had a fantastic season last year and by all accounts is not having a good one so far this season.

Results haven't been great and performances have been worse.

03 Jan 2026 11:59:23
Ed, do you think Bournmouths current form has lessened the belief in Iraola?

Do you think Slot may stay until Alonso is available?

Stick or twist.

{Ed001's Note - I would think Hughes knows Iraola well enough to not take any notice of a lack of form from a team that has had its team ripped apart and is suffering badly through injuries with no real quality to come in and replace them.

I think Slot will probably see out the season, at least, unless form nosedives again.}

03 Jan 2026 12:33:33
why is the assumption always that anything good is some form of luck or simply not good enough?

03 Jan 2026 12:43:30
Bournemouth have lost their 2 very good CBs last year, so they will struggle . remember when we lost our CBs we had a terrible year trying to fix it .

03 Jan 2026 12:57:57
mfahmee - I'm not sure what the point of your question is?

03 Jan 2026 14:46:49
If Iraola can get MacAllister to run, Konate to stay on his feet, Gakpo to have more awareness etc then why would he waste his time managing football teams?

{Ed001's Note - that genuinely made me laugh out loud.}

03 Jan 2026 15:20:02
The point is simple, if you can't name any, then "better football, worse results" is just a nice phrase with no real example. I was just asking who actually fits that description.
