Just a question, with Alonso at Chelsea, would anyone one sell Wirtz for 130 million?
21 Jun 2026 13:18:45
No thanks.
21 Jun 2026 13:26:01
130, Reece James and Estevao and I'd maybe begin to consider.
21 Jun 2026 13:46:50
I love Wirtz, but 130mn is crazy money. I would find it hard to turn that down. However, 70mn + Estevao is a deal I would definitely take. Will solve our RW issue too.
21 Jun 2026 13:51:50
Yea I'd cash in on him, he is a great player but hasn't shown anything that he is a right fit for us or the Prem. I know we had Slot last season, but even so, I thought we'd see more than a few flashes of what he could be last season.
Also, think every man n his dog screaming get Diomonde for 100 mill is another expensive mistake, could be a one season wonder.
21 Jun 2026 14:09:38
Reece James would be a great addition only because he can sit on the injury bench and keep Frimpong and Bradley company.
21 Jun 2026 14:10:42
No way. The key point is, who are you going to buy instead, and how much would they cost?
21 Jun 2026 14:11:42
After one year of playing under Slot! Absolutely not, at least give him a chance to shine under Iraola before wanting to sell.
21 Jun 2026 14:22:58
You can't judge any of our players after last season, especially as it was his first. I wouldn't sell.
21 Jun 2026 14:27:17
There is no doubting Wirtz's ability, to me at least. He is one of those players that is mentally quicker than the vast majority of players playing currently. Wirtz knows what positions to occupy to receive the ball, the pass to progress the team further up the pitch, how to draw opponents to him, and create space for others.
However, as talented as he is, he is 100% a luxury Liverpool were ill equipped to utilise effectively, especially with the compliment of players we have at our disposal. He is a player that needs a solid system around him to operate to his fullest capacity. He is not a player that can spark a match into life on his own, he is a facilitator of others, but needs the right profile around him, or it falls apart.
For 100+ million, you have to be a player that can drag the team over the line, or be a consistent thorn in the side of the opposition, regardless of the game's stature. Wirtz is simply not capable of that on his own. He needs fast players around him, offensive runners, and for the opposition to not physically dominate him.
He needs a lot to function. Favourable conditions are not what a top player needs. They can produce on any occasion.
Love watching Wirtz as he is very stylish. However, it is money poorly spent. We require extensive work throughout the team, and spending 100+ million on Wirtz could have been better spent balancing the team, and bringing required players rather than a luxury that we are now struggling to find a position for. He has not established himself in the Prem (I think it is too physical for him) and he has not established a position in the first 11 (Some say LW, others say CAM, others RW, because he has not impressed in any position while at Liverpool).
His G/A last season was embarrassing. Let's be real. He is a quality player, but needs so much to go his way to shine, which is not a quality of a top player. I know many will disagree, but it is only an opinion, not a statement of fact.
21 Jun 2026 14:35:57
He was terrible last season. Has to hit the ground running from the off next season. Same as Isak.
21 Jun 2026 14:45:13
Personally, I would take £80m for Wirtz, and I wouldn't lose any sleep on how to replace his five goals. If we do actually buy two wide players, he doesn't get a game anyway!
21 Jun 2026 15:04:13
Long term view, I'd buy the entire recruitment team over at Brighton and set them to work.
21 Jun 2026 15:13:45
Let's not write them off until we've seen them play under an expansive manager. Slotball made everyone look bad, and they've not all reached so high in their careers because they are poor players.
Wirtz needs to work on his strength, speed of mind, and building relationships with other players before we can really judge him.
21 Jun 2026 15:39:25
LFC Mango has got it correct.
He is not a generational talent as advertised.
I still like him and want him to come good.
But top players can change a game on their own brilliance, which he is not.
Lot of things should happen for him to shine, unfortunately.
21 Jun 2026 15:51:43
If Gakpo is worth £70m, then Wirtz is worth Estevao plus £100m or £170m straight.
That would work.
21 Jun 2026 16:04:55
Absolutely not... for any amount of money!
21 Jun 2026 16:14:41
I don't care if a player costs £100m or £10m ……if they're a fantastic player (like Wirtz) you want him in your team.
It's not our money …. So we really don't need to be obsessing about how much FSG pay for a player or how much FSG could sell them for.
Just enjoy them while they're wearing a Liverpool shirt.
21 Jun 2026 16:40:54
Non Starter.
21 Jun 2026 16:42:03
Wirtz will come good. If the chances he created last season were coverted, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
And the message it would send by selling him to Chelsea would be so negative. Not gonna happen.
21 Jun 2026 17:45:53
Alonso has played and managed in the Bundesliga and the PL, he fully knows which is the most difficult league to play in.
Shankly/Paisley both played wing half (centre midfield), the first thing they wanted as a "MUST" was could a player: control a ball instantly, and pass instantly, hence the LFC "pass and move" the Liverpool groove.
Wirtz would have not been signed.
His first touch is appalling, his second touch is a tackle (Diomende is the same; both couldn't trap a bag of cement). I have seen four LFC greats in the same position as Wirtz (Gerrard, McDermott, Firmino, Cormack); he is light years behind.
Rayan will be an absolute Monster, and for half the price of Diomende, he replaced Semenyo seamlessly at Bournemouth.
21 Jun 2026 17:54:08
007, Wirtz is well known for having an elite 1st touch and exceptional quick passing ability. Clearly you're judging him on the one poor season you saw him play.
21 Jun 2026 18:01:30
If this thread has taught me anything, it's that some people are a terrible judge of a player! Wirtz has no first touch?! Can't influence a game on his own?! Is weak of body and slow of mind?! Even in last season's poor team he showed none of the above are true.
21 Jun 2026 18:18:17
Not a chance. Some nonsense on here about what a top player should and shouldn't do. Wirtz can absolutely do exceptional things that change games. We've seen that for Leverkusen and Germany. He had moments of brilliance for us last season, but people have forgotten them due to the poor season and the underwhelming performances of all the players. When we start playing forward with pace, he will come into his own and be the key to unlocking the wide players.
As for top players changing games on their own, that is rubbish as well. Xavi Hernandez, David Silva, to name a couple, were absolutely world class because of their ability to see pictures, set tempo and play passes that others couldn't. Not dribble 3 men and smash it in the top corner. Wirtz can set the tempo and will provide many more assists next season.
21 Jun 2026 19:33:18
007, is that the same Rayan who Bournemouth want £90m plus for? Hardly half the price of Diomande. The kid is 19, had an amazing first season, and our scouts, along with all of Europe's, must be blind then to the major faults on his game.
21 Jun 2026 20:54:17
Wirtz the next player on the garbage heap say the best internet fans in the world.
21 Jun 2026 21:41:03
007 is a troll, much like Bob le Ponge. They're clearly not Liverpool fans.
It's not even amusing negativity. Take Negative Walter or VictorVaughn who are actually entertaining and insightful. Clearly Liverpool fans, just with very high standards.
It really lowers the quality of discussion on here having Bob le Ponge and 007 continue to post absolute drivel on a daily basis. It's my own fault though. The Ed's gave us the ignore function, I'm just choosing to punish myself for some reason.
