Game of 2 halves. Loads of positives. 1st half all the young lads playing well along with Dom, Isak and Wirtz. 2nd half a complete contrast. Just shows that our squad/Fringe players aren't up to much. Conceding 4 unanswered goals in the 2nd half while creating little is very concerning.

Jones, Frimpong and Grav were all dirt. As I said earlier today, Elliott and Cheisa just aren't good enough. We need reinforcements in big time before the window shuts. Very disappointing 2nd half. I know its only a friendly, but we were absolutely rubbish second half, which is a bit of a worry.

Watching the pre season match vs Leeds and Curtis Jones looks very disinterested. He cannot be anywhere near the first XI when we start the season. Let's hope the rumours of Inter are true, he looks like he's mentally checked out.

"Disinterested" is a very polite way to describe the way he played tonight.

I've been defending him for weeks in the hope he would do better under Iraola. I take it all back, ship him out asap.

Shame for Jones if this is how his LFC career comes to a close. No local would actually willingly bow at the club. I'm sure what has gone on will come out, but that 3rd goal, for someone who has backed Curtis for years, it's just not good enough, even in pre season.

Sometimes I wish we could just get Trent back and it be all forgotten as a bad dream.

First game I’ve had a chance to really get stuck into. Trey Nyoni, playing himself into the 1st 11. Chambers doing himself no harm either.

3

02 Aug 2026 23:13:42
Agreed, FM. Right now, Nyoni seems like he could be starting the season against Newcastle. Chambers has most likely played himself into a squad role too. Let's hope he can keep himself injury free.

Second half, "pick the bones out of that", 2 mistakes and 2 set plays, schoolboy defending?

0

02 Aug 2026 23:30:08
Jones has to go. He was smiling and hi fiving the Leeds players at the end, after an abysmal performance. We need winners. I hope Nyoni gets a starting spot against Newcastle.

Hi all, I have some more information I would like to share through a source of mine, this isn’t the Lyon source from my first poster, however, so forgive me if it’s wrong.
I’m hearing that the club and PSG are confirming a payment structure and a verbal fee.

So whenever the official bid goes in, it will be accepted immediately. For the numbers, honestly I have no idea as the club are trying to keep a tight grip of information briefing to the public. They want this deal to be 99% confirmed before briefing anymore.

Sam.

Isak and Wirtz start tonight, and Szobbo is captain.

Another bad pitch in Chicago.

02 Aug 2026 21:14:16
Luke Chambers goal!

1

02 Aug 2026 22:23:02
Great goal by Wirtz too.
A really good first half. Playing the ball much quicker. Pressing is excellent.
Really impressed with Nyoni. Isak looking sharper. Frimpong looking good.
All positive signs.

Second half... Different team and very poor.
Losing a 2-0 lead.

02 Aug 2026 09:20:50
Ok, prediction time, starting XI for Newcastle?
Also tends to happen with a new manager. We’ll do our business late in the window, so would suggest maybe a couple more players to join after Newcastle.

Alisson
Frimpong
Jacquet
Van Dijk
Kerkez
Gravenberch
Szoboszlai
Wirtz
Barcola
Ngumoha
Isak

Subs
Mama
Endo
Bajcetic
Tsimikas
Nyoni
Elliott
Chiesa
Gakpo
Munoz

So, I think Jones goes to Inter and possibly McAllister but I can’t see anyone but Atletico in for him. Don’t see him at Real Madrid personally. Could see Gakpo go but not until maybe late in the window. Think Bajcetic and Endo kept on for ability to play centre back until we buy someone late. Konsa or Nnamdi Collins or even paying more and bringing Quansah back a year earlier than the buy back deal.

Jayus, when I look at that list it only reiterates just how weak the squad is. Apart from Nyoni, Gapko and possibly Munoz, there's not going to be much influence from the bench. I love Cheisa and Elliott, but they just ain't good enough or quick enough to have real impact on the starting 11. We are very weak squad wise. It's sticking out like a sore thumb that we are light on quality players for rb, cb, cm and rw.

I just hope that the pursuit of Barcola doesn't cause us to lose focus on the other areas that also need addressing asap. If both Jones and Mac are allowed to leave without suitable replacements, we are going to struggle to get top 4 this season.

02 Aug 2026 12:19:45
If Isak and Jaquet start I'll eat my hat.

2

02 Aug 2026 12:38:26
Think we may see Gravenberch at CB lol.

2

02 Aug 2026 12:49:01
Ali.Frimpong Jacquet (if fit, not sure if he is not) Vvd Kerkez. Szobo Grav. Barcola Wirtz Gakpo. Isak.
Desperate need of defensive reinforcements.

02 Aug 2026 12:54:11
If that happens it will be a case of here we go again playing players out of position because our recruitment team are unable to get the type of profile players that Iraola requires and everyone knows needs!!

2

02 Aug 2026 06:38:17
So PSG will sign Godts Akilouche and Torres for a combined 160m and we will pay 130m for Barcola basically funding the entire thing.

I rather we not sign Barcola this year and let PSG be.

Walk away. Many many other players. Barcola aint 130m in any world. Plz sign a CB and RB and sell players that dont want to be here.

4

02 Aug 2026 08:27:18
But we are looking for a specific type of winger. Akliouche and Torres are not that pacey, direct type we are after (I don't know about Godts). There is no point stockpiling players we don't want. PSG would look to improve regardless of our business.

4

02 Aug 2026 12:40:32
Thirstforwirtz had made this point elsewhere, but there is something admirable about how PSG go about their business now compared to years ago.

There is a part of me that agrees with you. But I also think that we are backed into a corner somewhat at the mo.

I'm not sure if we could have got those three players for the same amount. There would have been an added premium we'd have to pay, thanks to PL revenue.

In any case, we simply need the player, so I think we should just go and get it done.

2

02 Aug 2026 14:29:30
I get your point, Faith. And if Barcola was a RW I'd be on the bandwagon to pay what needs to be paid and get it done. But he isn't, and he will replace Gackpo, and I don't think he needs replacing.
We will play him out of position and then be on his case for not doing Salah numbers.

0

02 Aug 2026 15:49:42
How did we gift PSG two CLs? We were nowhere close to winning it and they won it fair and square.

2

02 Aug 2026 16:22:49
Thirstforwirtz, it doesn't matter who you sign at RW. No player in world football at present, bar Kvaratskhelia, is getting close to Salah figures. We need to get this out of our heads. We are not signing a Salah replacement, because there isn't one.

It will be a completely different type of player. More goals are going to have to be chipped in by the likes of Isak, Barcola if he comes, and the midfield.

2

02 Aug 2026 16:49:07
How does a random person behind a keyboard (ThirstforWirtz) know that a player isn't worth what a well-run football club, with scouts; fitness experts; experience, etc., do know or are prepared to shell out in a well educated assessment?

It's just what type of money we're talking now.

Is Yamal worth £220 million? Pedri £150 million?

Can people stop saying 'he's not worth it' when he hasn't even kicked a ball for us.

2

02 Aug 2026 19:39:00
Faith, I agree on the added premium for Premier League clubs. Crazy though the thought PSG maybe get them cheaper when you consider their revenue. One of the biggest in football.

I know this is all hypothetical at the moment, but if Gakpo goes to Spurs, would that have an impact on the alleged pursuit of Djed Spence?
Just comparing the situation with the Rogers/Garnacho deals between Villa and Chelsea, which I believe has something to do with the way they are counting towards things like SCR.

If we sold Gakpo, would we be only able to sign Spence on loan with an option/obligation to buy?

1

02 Aug 2026 08:29:01
What makes you think we're pursuing DJed Spence? It is al just speculation from media or YouTube opionikms fuelling this.

2

01 Aug 2026 16:11:05
Why aren't we looking at Mika Godts instead?

3

01 Aug 2026 16:47:33
Because he's not very good, probably. I've never seen him play, but I looked him up after a few people mentioned him. He looks pretty average even in highlights. Also, he got 0 goals and 1 assist in 8 Champions League games last season.

That 1 assist came against Qarabag.

I don't want to say he is or isn't good enough based on stats and highlights, but it's not exactly enthralling to me.

We already have Rio as our project LW. Senseless buying another imo.

01 Aug 2026 18:10:28
Not very good 🤣 32 G/A, top goal contributor in the Eredivisie last season, won Talent of the Year from both Ajax and the league.

01 Aug 2026 18:36:53
Purely an aside: Another friendly match circa 5 hrs ago.

Chelsea 1 versus Spurs 2. The poster who said Estevao had a grade one hamstring tear scored the first goal after 22 mins. Tonali replied for Spurs.

Richarlison ET winner. What made it even worse, Danso was sent off for Spurs in the 49th minute; he only entered the field of play two minutes earlier, as a Sub! Xabi full strength bar Roy Rogers?

1

01 Aug 2026 18:44:37
Who was 'the poster' in question? He's done well to go from internet commenter to scoring a goal for Chelsea inside 22 mins.

01 Aug 2026 19:00:13
Why’s he signing to be a back up to Kvaratskhelia then, Chewy?

I’ve not seen him, like I said, but typically Eredivisie wingers don’t do too good in the Prem. Gakpo and Robben aside, it’s not been great, has it. Assaidi, Depay, Antony, Ziyech, Bergwijn, Chadli, Gronkjaer, Samaras, Babel, Jahanbakhsh etc.

01 Aug 2026 19:04:45
I sometimes think 007 is the real James Bond and he uses this site to send coded messages to MI5 which only they can decipher.

6

01 Aug 2026 19:42:03
It was Viktor chaps, said Estevao was finished.

1

01 Aug 2026 19:47:06
It was a grade 4 tear, 007. And I'd still not want to sign a player who'd had that severe an injury, as it's an accident waiting to happen. Scoring in a pre-season game is fairly meaningless in the context of a full season. Estevao is always going to be on the edge of an injury that will keep him out for months.

Like all the old cowboy and Indian films:

The "messenger" always ends up with all the arrows in his back! It's not me you have to watch out for, VV. I made the allegation, but never provided the truth! Absolute kudos for that, VV! Your actions take bottle! Well done, seriously, only a man can do that.

You have the only "Black" 007 anywhere, Kopite 86.

Overmars one of the Prems best ever wingers for me. Robben, Zenden, our own Gakpo. There's been a few good ones in fairness. This fella, I know absolutely nothing about. If he plays on the left, he knows going in he's backup. But, sure, we're signing a world class winger who knew that himself. 😉

0

01 Aug 2026 21:03:45
Overmars is just before my time, Flo. But you're not the first person I've heard praise him.

I know you're being sarcastic with your last line, but just to clarify, Barcola was at PSG before Kvaratskhelia! He's showing the right attitude by not wanting to sit on the bench for mega bucks. Same can't be said for Godts.

Barcola knows he starts for any other team in Europe. He even starts for France in most games, despite all their talent.

Back on topic, maybe Godts would do well in the Prem, but it looks like we'll never know. After a few years decaying on the PSG bench, he'll probably end up going to Italy, Turkey or Saudi Arabia.

1

01 Aug 2026 21:34:33
"A grade 4 tear", ViktorVaughan. Could the same be said for Bajcetic? I like him, as I do Joe, but is he "another injury waiting to happen"?

01 Aug 2026 21:40:12
Denis Bergkamp has scored the longest goal ever in football and it will never be bettered in a million years:

"He scored from Over-Mars"

Bum, bum!

3

01 Aug 2026 22:32:15
Yeh, MK, I'll give Barcola that. He could easily stay there, but be on the bench for the big games. If he's leaving because he wants to try be a main man somewhere, then fair play.

01 Aug 2026 22:39:03
For all the Barcola bandwaggoners Google search:

Barcola v Arsenal on YouTube 8 mins 4 seconds video, does not beat an Arsenal full back once, 90 minutes played, goals none, assists none, shots none, bang average at £145 million.

1

01 Aug 2026 22:43:50
Won't be near £145m. And known Arteta he probably quadrupled up on him.

1

02 Aug 2026 12:41:28
No one is playing full strength at this stage of pre season.
