I'm not Konate's biggest fan but I genuinely hope this is true not just to stick 2 fingers up to Madrid, but also because we've changed a lot this summer and replacing Konate seemed like unnecessary business after he had his best performing (and also a relatively injury free) campaign.

I would assume, if this does get agreed, that we will be looking at a younger CB for cover - someone like Zeze who seems to be our preferred choice out of Zeze and Alt Boudlal.
The Cresswell rumours are interesting. I can't say I noticed him too much in the U21s - I was concentrating more on our players - but he does have the advantage of being HG. If we're keeping Konate and not getting Guehi then we are still close to our non-HG limit.
I know that Hato is U21, but he would also (probably) be needing more game time than we could offer him as we have Kerkez ahead of him at LB (with Robbo, Tsimi, Beck and others behind) and a certain Virgil ahead of him at LCB.
A young CB who is willing to bide his time and fill in for cups (and injury cover) with a high ceiling and ideally U21 or HG is the dream!

I’m glad if true, I think we need to settle where we can, As a lot of change is happening. Bring in a young CB for quansah and if we can, one of Robbo or Tsimikas should leave. Midfield is then set, GKs sorted and just the attack to finalise.
Putting a lot of faith in Gomez and Konate’s fitness, mind.

Same here, Frode. His ballplaying style and leadership nous are assets in our team. The Palace staff and fans absolutely love him. His aerial ability is less of an issue if Grav drops in or the young CB prospect is massive.

For those asking what stalled, I believe the contract we offered and which was close to agreement, was 150k and at the last minute Konate’s agent changed the demand to 200k. The rumour of 180k above would put him above most of the squad, including Ali, Mac, etc.

Forgive the red tinted glasses but this is the place to be. Barring a handful of games last season we were exceptional and have not only strengthened but got the brightest talent in Europe to sign. Forget about R Madrid Ibou and get it signed lad. YNWA.

Frode, but if Konate signs a new deal, I don't believe Guehi would want to join us, in World Cup year, to hope that VVD or Konate get an injury. Chances are one of them (Konate! ) would get injured, but it's a bit of a gamble on Guehi's part.

Football is a game of opinions and anyone who doesn’t rate Konate has the wrong one.
He stayed fit, we won the league and we conceded a few less than a much more defensive (and excellent) Arsenal.
Konate is in the world’s top 5 centre backs. It’s why he plays for Liverpool and why Madrid want to sign him. If he was “made available” the queue to sign him would be most major clubs.
Also, what a move by the club - almost guarantees Madrid move for Saliba and weaken a league rival.

Yeah, after we’d won the league, so that really makes a huge difference right. We conceded more in the last game after we’d won the 20th league title.

I'm ok with Konate but I do think he performs so well because VVD is next to him.
I'm not sure he'd be able to do the same for another CB next to him if VVD moves on in 2 years.
I really hope VVD manages to remain as good and healthy for another 5 years and retires at LFC!

So no, I was not wrong in my statement. At the time of time of the Spurs win we conceded 3 less that Arsenal (a few) . We then conceded freely after we won it.
