"I would love the opportunity and would do it for free, if it meant I got the chance but I can't see them going for it"

This is directly from Stevie G.

He also thinks that there os no chance of Klopp coming back even on the short term. He wants Alonso or Iriola ato take over.

27 Nov 2025 14:44:42
Thefields, who would you back as a temp until Iraola is ready, if you had to put your house on someone?

27 Nov 2025 14:59:53
Thanks Thefields! Personally, I think Stevie G is spot on.

{Ed025's Note - i think he may give you the initial new manager bounce Stone, but as a long term manager i would see that as a really bad idea mate..

27 Nov 2025 15:15:22
Gerrard is absolutely clueless as a manager. Would be poor appointment who’d set the club back years. Talk about learning nothing from Souness.

{Ed025's Note - im with you VV..

27 Nov 2025 15:34:16
Ed25 I took that as stone agreeing with Gerard about klopp not coming back and the two managerial choices.

{Ed025's Note - oh right then my bad MLG, the posts are coming through so quickly that its hard to concentrate at times mate..

27 Nov 2025 15:36:18
Stevie Me - 1 good season in an atrocious league with coaches who did most of the work. He is a youth team level manager, at best.

He could be our new mascot / cheerleader.

27 Nov 2025 15:38:56
Agree with you too Viktor. Gerrard has failed as manager almost everywhere he has gone. His only success has been at Rangers after they spent bucket loads on new players for him. I still think he's best as a youth coach though where the most important thing is to inspire them and get them to keep their head down and work hard.

27 Nov 2025 15:42:23
Dr, I don't really like the idea of a temp tbh. Does nothing really but cause more uncertainty. It's a hard situation we find ourselves in, do we stick or twist. We don't usually make knee jerk reactions either. So I would imagine plans are being drawn up and we won't move until we are certain we are making the right move. Personally, as I've said before. The Alonso situation at Real is not helping. He was 1st choice and the potential of his departure, could be holding them back from going for their current top option Iraola. We lose against West Ham and its over for Slot imo.

VV, agreed as a manager its a no but as a coach, yes.

27 Nov 2025 15:42:41
The worry with Gerrard is it's lose-lose. We know he's not a very good manager/ coach based on his Aston Villa tenure.

Most likely, things will be steady but not great and he moves on, with us going trophyless. However, there is a good chance he is going to give us a short term boost. If he goes on a good run then people will start asking for him to get the job permanently and then once the short term bounce wears off, we're stuck with our own Lampard/ Solskjaer. Lose. Lose.

27 Nov 2025 15:45:36
Club legend forever but no. Listened to him last night and thought definitely not because of what he said. He'd play players based off their names. For me we have a team atm that once we concede half of them put in half hearted performances.

27 Nov 2025 15:46:58
I meant he was spot on about the club not hiring him and that he likes Alonso or Iraola.

27 Nov 2025 15:50:17
Wouldn’t have gerrard any where managing the club.

27 Nov 2025 15:55:54
Very very short term to get bounce back as Ed025 says.

27 Nov 2025 16:17:09
Jesus people laying into Gerrard who has never had nor will have the role. He did rubbish at Villa but the assumptions made about his managerial style is laughable “he’d pick people based on their names” utter garbage.

27 Nov 2025 16:26:14
Ed 25 - of course! I wasn't calling you out at all!

It's madness here at the moment and your all doing an unreal job as always!

{Ed025's Note - its very full on MLG but we are doing out best mate, its busier now than even when you signed the players in the summer, but it keeps me out of mischief i suppose.. :)

27 Nov 2025 16:28:35
Agreed -it is a tricky one but sticking with Slot would be the worst call of all as he is lost and that is transmiting to the players, who seem to be intent on a change of manager based on the way of playing.

I reckon Alonso will be at Real a couple of seasons so there is time, but would interim, iraola, Alonso be a likely scenario? Its just too many changes for LFC.

Its a shame Nuno took a new job, he would have been a great interim.

27 Nov 2025 17:48:22
I don't want Gerrard as manager myself . he needs to get back into coaching n then progress through ranks to become a good manager. but the complete disregard for him on here is bad . he had 3 jobs so far but he has won a league ( ok the Scottish league ) but we might need an interim n he could be ideal .

this nonsense with Klopp coming back will never happen . so for me a partnership of Rafa n Gerrard would be ok until we get our 1st choice.

27 Nov 2025 16:54:31
Well there's one thing about LFC ED25. They'll never have you lot left idle that's for sure! ???.

{Ed025's Note - never a truer word said SG.. :)

27 Nov 2025 19:09:52
Im with Batman on this, his comments last night showed he'd continue to start the big name players and hope they come good, that's what he said after the match.

27 Nov 2025 22:27:11
I trust the club to find the best replacement, as long as they look to the future. Klopp, Gerrard, Benitez, are more an exercise in nostalgia than a solution.

28 Nov 2025 04:29:25
If Gerard was managing the club for free he would still be being overpaid.

28 Nov 2025 06:45:43
I think the big selling point for Iraola is how he manages to squeeze that extra bit of effort and application from all his players and gets them to play cohesively and for one another, to lose your entire backline in one window and to still get them working as hard as they are even while moving towards a more controlled and possession-based system is truly impressive.

Xabi meanwhile has shown that he can be tactically flexible, at Sociedad B he played four at the back, at Leverkusen he played three, and with Real he has tried both formations, he is an intelligent and pragmatic coach who assesses the resources at his disposal and how to make them work. I would suggest Iraola has that fire and that aggression that we love to see in Liverpool managers, Xabi is much cooler in emotional temperature, I feel like Iraola is a bigger risk but I would imagine that there is a bigger reward to be had, too.

28 Nov 2025 09:15:19
I’m worried these unproven managers will end up being Brendan v2.0.

28 Nov 2025 17:07:19
I think people are being harsh on Stevie G at Villa he changed the captain and the players stopped playing for him as it looks like it is what is happening at Liverpool now.

Saying that I would like a full time manager someone like Xavi the former Barcelona player and manager won a world cup, European champions and La Liga as player and manager and is available and he brought through Pedre, Yamal and other young players .
If he came now he would have time to work on the team and get us to where we want to be . YNWA.

Gerard was an excellent player - a very big fish in a very big pond.

As a coach he is an average size fish in a small pond.
