Hello guys, I’ve been told a rumour by someone supposedly close to the club.
Apparently the board are extremely unhappy with both this season and Arne Slot. The whole “transition season” narrative is said to be more PR than reality behind the scenes.
That being said, Slot reportedly won’t be sacked. From what I’ve heard, the club’s analytics and recruitment people don’t actually believe there’s a manager currently available who’s clearly better than him. Liverpool also supposedly have zero interest in Xabi Alonso despite all the noise online.
The plan, apparently, is to give Slot a third season. If things start badly, then the club would move for Julian Nagelsmann.
From what I’m hearing, Nagelsmann is the manager they really want long-term, but they know they can’t realistically get him before the World Cup. That’s why Slot is being given another season. If he turns it around, then brilliant, problem solved. If not, the club can go all in for Nagelsmann afterwards.

Sewing the seeds of discontent and confusion.
12 May 2026 11:54:21
Amazing what an out-of-date, conveniently-worded Ornstein update can do to the whole rumour mill.
12 May 2026 11:58:26
Isn't Enrique the long term choice? Legend has it, he's told FSG that he would like to be our manager at some point in the future.
12 May 2026 12:06:18
Enrique isn't joining this bin fire. Given how many times Slot has had his pants down this season, there's evidently multiple managers better than him. He couldn't even beat a PE teacher.
We are now looking at writing off multiple seasons.
Next season will be like when we sacked Bodgers. Only this time Nagelsmann is nothing like Klopp. He's The Teutonic Bodgers, so we're binning off one manager hopelessly out of his depth for another one. Piss poor stuff from all concerned.
12 May 2026 12:12:28
More BS. There's more chance of hell freezing over than Slot being manager next season.
12 May 2026 12:27:14
Bulk, I remember people saying Rodgers wouldn't survive the 6-1 battering by Stoke, but he clung on like a stubborn poo. We are back there again, only this time there is no Klopp. Just the inept and incompetent Nagelsmann.
12 May 2026 12:29:22
That'll be Nagelsmann who wants to stay in Germany & return to Bayern asap.
12 May 2026 13:00:23
Another manager rumoured? Where does all this stuff come from? Supposedly close to the club? Either is or isn't, surely? Oh well, we'll soon see.
12 May 2026 13:07:02
If we are going to be true to the rumours page, then surely Simao and Trezeguet have to be in with a shoot of next manager. They might not be ex players, but they are both LFC rumours page legends.
12 May 2026 13:10:02
Haha, images of Brendan holding on like a stubborn poo!
If the underlying performance data isn't enough, then they only need to look over the road at United and their decision to keep Erik Ten Hag for another season.
I can't imagine there is a single underlying data point that can be interpreted positively - other than the possible CL qualification.
12 May 2026 13:36:09
Long time reader, occasional poster. This is generally the only forum where you get people consistently saying that Slot is going this summer.
I live in hope that those guys are correct, as it's become completely apparent that Slot is a busted flush.
However, it's very worrying when so many 'connected' journalists are saying FSG are sticking with Slot next season. I really hope it's just Edwards and co trying to control the narrative as has been suggested.
12 May 2026 13:59:09
World Cup finishes before the next season starts, so I think this is bs.
12 May 2026 14:03:50
Why would FSG wanna invest millions in transfers on a manager who isn't going to be safe? That being said, FSG has not extended his contract. Until his contract is extended, Slot is still on thin ice.
12 May 2026 14:11:09
Explain it like I'm 5yo, Edwards benefits by controlling the narrative, with that narrative being holding onto an employee that's underperformed after the biggest investment in club history and is being booed by the loyalist fan base in the world....
12 May 2026 14:14:52
Nagelsmann is not a good manager and will flop at the World Cup. ? Something is seriously wrong with those running the club if ze German is the best they can come up with.
12 May 2026 14:18:12
Nagelsmann signed a contract extension with Germany until the end of Euro 2028 and doesn't want to live out of Germany, having already turned us down before Slot was hired, if reports were to be believed then. Would just show how incompetent and useless the people now in charge of the club truly are.
12 May 2026 14:37:05
We should have sacked Slot last October/November. Got Alonso in as soon as possible and wrote the season off as a transition season. Would have given the new manager a good amount of time to analyse the squad, which will be difficult to do during a World Cup season.
We need to stop this 'we stick by managers' BS. It's things like this that would result in us falling behind again.
There is No saving grace, no underlying statistics or data that suggest Slot is either A) suffering some other worldly twist of fate that no other manager could deal with B) that Slot can turn this around.
Every day he remains, we're flogging a dead horse, and for what? It benefits nobody. If it continues much longer I feel we'll find players wanting out, perhaps put any new signings off joining the club. This is one band aid that ripping off won't hurt the fans or club at all.
12 May 2026 15:15:50
Two matches to go ... it's going to get boring around here when Slot's gone.
12 May 2026 16:09:55
Kjh2477 leaked news could affect performances and qualification for the CL, which would be drastic.
News should not be leaking through any channels.
In a nutshell, imagine if we don't qualify for the CL and some of the targets no longer want to join = the value of the club decreases.
12 May 2026 16:46:16
Calm. Calm. Slot is gone in a couple of weeks. That's just common sense. If it is to me and a lot of other people on here, then it's fairly obvious to those who make those decisions.
There's absolutely only one way this is going. Slot is out and either Xabi or Iraola is in. That's the reality of it regardless of what mainstream media guff is produced.
12 May 2026 17:00:35
"The club's analytics and recruitment people don't actually believe there's a manager currently available who's clearly better than him."
If that's the case, the club's analytics and recruitment people need investigating for negligence, and ultimately firing.
12 May 2026 17:35:19
Love a good rumour, me.
Unfortunately, that isn't one.
12 May 2026 18:13:18
You could hit several better managers than Slot by swinging a dead cat above your head.
There's several better managers available this summer and several who would jump through hoops to manage us.
12 May 2026 18:29:04
Alonso1786, the manager in our local Tesco store, has better data than him. What is the point in having data and analytics if they don't have eyes or ears? Is the league table and the 18 losses not contributing datum? Or is it only data that they want to see, like UCL qualification? We all know why we are getting UCL qualification, and it is because all the other teams are a mess. Next season, we are out of top 6 with Slot. Take those first 5 games from the start of the season which we miraculously won, we would be on 44 points in 15th place. To be honest, that is what we have played like all season. And now, this is the kicker for me. It is getting worse, not better.
Now, can I also add the fact that we have had injuries, oh no, so does every team.
However, other teams have a system and an identity, and when personnel is unavoidable, they can bring in someone else that can do a decent job. Slot plays midfielders at right back, right back at right wing, and tells our midfield not to tackle and let people walk past. We are apparently buying two wingers in the summer. What is the point if there is no one in the box? The club is a mess and the manager is an idiot. He has been found out and he has to go. Ultimately, he will be sacked at some point, which makes me happy, because it is footablll, and everyone gets sacked apart from legends, and sometimes even legends get sacked. If FSG can sack King Kenny then they will certainly sack this muppet.
12 May 2026 18:37:20
I know someone close to the club. You'll see him near the bench most games.
He says nothing has been decided about next season and the club will have an extensive end of season review.
Players will have end of season interviews with Hughes, Slot and Edwards (Edwards may be virtual), and Mo will have an exit interview where he predicts a few shots will be fired. He's quite close to Mo.
12 May 2026 18:47:15
Analytics and Data have limited value, e.g., Slot has a 100% Champions League qualification record, and a 50% Premier League winning record as Liverpool manager.
12 May 2026 19:29:52
I am 100% Brad Pitt in my head, but only 32% Brad Pitt and 68% Ken Dodd when I look in the mirror.
{Ed025's Note - im half Paul Hollywood and half Freddie Boswell when the wind blows Inbeta.. :)
12 May 2026 19:31:03
I genuinely think their data computer thingy needs left in to an Apple genius to see what is wrong with it. It maybe needs an update.
12 May 2026 21:09:12
Unfortunately, it seems their data is being run on a ZX81.
12 May 2026 21:34:49
That is pure BS, waste of a post. Just preying on high emotions and rage baiting.
