My first rumour I’ve had to pass on. My other half works in aviation. Has no interest in football, but said “I heard Xabi Alonso flew in this week on a private plane, does that mean slots going?”.
I have tried to get more from this such as is this gossip or did someone in work actually see this? The reply was I think the lads knew about it. Make of this what you will, but I am clinging to it.
15 May 2026 22:31:52
Some guy on Twitter is tracking planes and saw one go from Liverpool to Boston or vice versa, and people putting 2 and 2 together.
15 May 2026 22:33:41
Slot is going, I am not ITK, I have no rumour, it science says nobody can watch that yet again and believe Slot is the man, I cannot believe, refuse to believe, FSG are that stupid.
15 May 2026 22:35:08
I would be happy to give next season a go with no manager if it means getting rid of Slot. I think my 6-year-old could do a better job. I have never felt more annoyed and angry about being an LFC fan.
15 May 2026 22:36:32
Has no interest in football but knows who Xabi Alonso and Slot are and that one can replace the other?
Ok.
15 May 2026 22:39:12
Probably yeah......to Chelsea.
15 May 2026 22:41:25
He definitely returned to the UK to sign a contract with Chelsea. According to Matt Law's report, Alonso is on the brink of taking over as Chelsea boss. They might have already finalized the agreement, with only the official announcement left.
15 May 2026 22:46:36
We can only dream for Xabi..
Just get this fraud out of our team tonight.
15 May 2026 22:56:29
Do you know which airport/area he flew into?
15 May 2026 23:04:16
"Two goals at Villa Park is not bad".
Charge him for gross negligence.
15 May 2026 23:12:53
Thanks for the rumour.
I think it's a bit of a stretch to think it indicates Slot's going, but who knows?
15 May 2026 23:23:46
Hope you're right, Slot is breaking records.
15 May 2026 23:28:28
Flew into London or Liverpool?
15 May 2026 23:49:39
Yeah, probably he's going to Chelsea.
15 May 2026 23:55:24
If it happens that Alonso ends up at Chelsea that's absolutely unforgivable on Hughes, Edwards and FSG. Slot has to go, and we'll be left with the dregs.
16 May 2026 00:41:45
Seems he's for London. A lot of reports stating he's for Chelsea. :-(
16 May 2026 00:47:22
How many times of the last few years have we heard Liverpool will always be alert should an opportunity present itself to improve the team? Are FSG alert to Xabi being available?
16 May 2026 03:31:25
Just to be a bit picky... Just because Alonso doesn't have a job doesn't necessarily mean he is available.
Even if he is available it might be that Liverpool don't see him as the person they want either from a managerial point of view and / or because of terms and conditions for the contract he might want are not acceptable to the club.
As far as I can tell, nobody at the club has publicly stated anything about wanting Alonso or not.
As I keep saying, the club does actually listen and, personally, I hope very much that they are listening at the moment. If they are then I think Slot will be gone, but that doesn't mean he'll be replaced by Alonso.
16 May 2026 03:51:33
I know there's supposed to be some credit in the bank, but this side has not had an identity all season.
The fact that our only threat in open play was a 17yr old dribbling 1-1 is damning on the way the rest of the team is being set up (not to mention the defensive shambles).
I've seen far worse Liverpool sides play much better football, and Slot is 100% accountable for making this team play less than the sum of its parts. We need a change as I can't see this turning around.
16 May 2026 04:57:53
Given who we started in attack, Rio being our biggest threat isn't a massive surprise, so I don't take that to be a major demerit, I think it's hardly fair for us to be expecting anything approaching champagne football with the injuries to the attacking line.
Still, even if all our best attacking players are out injured, we could at the very least be set up to be hard to beat, and try to grind out a result by waiting for our chances.
We can't even do that. Giving the opposition all the time in the world to pick passes and take shots is just incomprehensible at any level of the game, I'm really scratching my head as to why these things are happening.
{Ed077's Note - defensively been porous all season, That is the biggest concern for Liverpool
16 May 2026 05:22:54
I'm genuinely disappointed with FSG and the leadership at Liverpool FC. As fans, we invest our time, passion, emotions, and loyalty into this club - so why does it feel like the fan base is being pushed to breaking point?
What is the purpose of playing football that lacks identity, intensity, and excitement? Liverpool has always been built on passion, energy, and attacking intent. Watching a style of football that feels flat and uninspiring is frustrating, especially when supporters know what this club is capable of.
A lot of this has to fall on Arne Slot. Results matter, but so does the way the team plays and the connection with the supporters. If anyone other than opposition fans wants him to stay regardless of performances and direction, that feels completely baffling to me.
Fans deserve answers, ambition, and football that reflects what Liverpool stands for - not a slow drift away from the identity that made people fall in love with this club in the first place.
16 May 2026 06:59:14
Nice to have an old fashioned proper rumour. Thanks for posting.
16 May 2026 07:05:17
FSG want a director of football to decide the transfers. Alonso wants full control of player recruitment.
If this is the sticking point, they would at least need proof that Edwards' choices have been a success, which is far from certain.
16 May 2026 07:28:28
Absolutely agree with Bos.
The team will always lack any style or identity that supporters will relate to and accept while Arne is in charge. On that basis alone, Arne's marking time and would have to go at some stage. There's been no point sticking with him as he's just not right for us.
The squad quality is poor. Partly due to poor contract management and partly poor transfer business.
Four players from our preferred starting eleven are mid table standard. Connor, Konate, Macca, and Gakpo. If the other seven were fit and firing, we have a decent starting 11 and can compete for top four, but once we get injuries were really in trouble.
We rarely see that first choice team because of injuries, so in reality we start each game with about seven mid table level players. Throw in a few of Curtis, the keeper, Gomez, Rio and Frimpong and we've no chance to compete with better run clubs with better squads and coaches. Our squad is really poor in defence and midfield.
It feels like we're run by mid table quality coaches and directors, and not surprisingly we've ended up there in terms of quality. We're only scrapping for fifth because we won our first few games when we had a full squad, since October it's been mid table mediocrity.
15 May 2026 22:42:50
Let's hope so. I can't cope with Slot and his rubbish for any longer.
Sack the idiot immediately
16 May 2026 07:47:27
Yeah, take the first five games off and we have 44 points. In reality, I think that is what our performances look like and where we will be next season. Is relegation a possibility? If we stick with Slot, Konate, VVD and Gakpo, etc., I see nothing to suggest we can challenge for top 10. We have been very fortunate this season. Slot is saying we've been unlucky, but that is actually not true. We have played much worse than top 5 and 59 points usually means you finish in 7th or 8th. I don't see us winning 5 in a row next season so we are not going to get CL football.
It's a mess. I agree with the quality of the squad as well. Gravenberch and MacAllister are just awful, and Wirtz looks like a frightened child. He's been a terrible signing, as is Isak. Which we all knew would happen. But it's okay. Their big super computer that gives them data says otherwise, and Slot is still the man, and Isak doesn't get injured, lol. Never wanted him anywhere near the club. I'm more disappointed with Wirtz though because I was excited about that one and look at how it panned out.
16 May 2026 08:24:09
If we scrape Champions League qualification, it's not because we are at that level, it's because the standard of the opposition is so s***. Let's not forget we are in 5th not 4th, and but for the additional place this year we don't qualify!
If it is true that Slot stays then the club hierarchy are in real trouble because that would be a shocking decision.
Irrespective of if they think Slot can improve next year and all these mitigating circumstances disappear, it is footballing naivety at its highest to think that Slot can turn the fan base in his favour - once fans turn, they turn, and no temporary reprieve will change that.
16 May 2026 08:13:43
Yup, starting to feel like a parallel universe on psilocybin . Take Premier League champions, spend £450 million on players, change strategy (if you can call it that) and end up worse than Bournemouth, Brighton & Brentford.
Managers are supposed to make teams more than the sum of their parts. Hogan, Hughes, Edwards should all clear out their lockers for this farce and for allowing the dead man walking cancer to metastasise through the entire squad barring a few exceptions (Dom, Rio, Hugo).
Utterly disgraceful.
16 May 2026 08:34:27
Spot on, Overkill. As poor as Slot is, this squad is shite. I was talking with a mate about this last night and there's only two players in this squad who I'd be arsed about leaving- VVD & Szobo. The rest could all go and I wouldn't shed a tear.
How on earth we've ended up giving bang average footballers like Gakpo & Grav £250-300k a week is absolutely criminal. And if there was ever a study to be done on how to throw £450m down the drain in one summer, refer them to Liverpool's summer 25.
16 May 2026 09:12:02
FatSpanishWaiter, Chelsea's coach has even less input into transfers than ours does. That's how they ended up with the likes of Garnacho and Gittens, and it's also why Maresca walked. Not sure why they would be a better option for any self-respecting coach than us, unless they suddenly did a 180 and completely ditched their model going forward.
16 May 2026 11:59:44
PatrikBurgher, Something's got to give for whoever genuinely wants Alonso.
Iraola works in FSG's preferred system and has Prem experience. Maybe him proving himself over 3 years has moved the needle on who's first choice.
