Hi all,
As far as I am aware, Liverpool will not sanction a sale of Cody Gakpo until a suitable replacement is lined up. And no, that is not Barcola. He is considered a short term Mo replacement as far as I am aware. Iraola will not allow another forward to depart when our options are already limited in that department.
Defensive backup is a priority. Nico Schlotterbeck has been of massive consideration but it remains to be seen whether or not talks will advance.
I would not be shocked if we resigned Jarrell Quansah. The player is open to returning and triggering the buy back clause is considered a serious option internally. Konsa is also of interest but the expectation is Villa would command a considerable fee - particularly as they are not hurting for money after the Rogers sale.
Josh Acheampong won't happen. Other players admired are Branthwaite, Murillo, Kounde and Zabarnyi.

Quansah would be an excellent option, plays RB too. It's completely unrealistic to expect both Jacquet and Leoni to be reliable options all season.

I have no info, but get the impression our directors would bite anyone's hand off for £60m+ for Cody. With Kroupi's injury, Spurs are pretty serious about Cody.

I really don't rate Quansah but then again their aren't many CB's I do rate. He's HG, still young, would have resale value and Ed001 did used to say he had potential if he stopped strutting around like he was VVD reborn.
If the cost wasn't outrageous I guess I wouldn't be and about it, but if Zabarnyi was available I'd rather him everyday of the week.

If a centre back is not an option, a possibility, or even being looked for, is it not worth a phone call or permission sought for Ndukwe to play, as he is now no longer an U21 purchase, but an option / dead cert of a first team option. Rules often change in times of desperation, and this looks like desperate times.

Why do our recruitment team think it's ok to spend £100m on a player and then use them short term out of position? Doesn't make sense to spend top money and then dilute the impact. Also, doesn't help the player find their best form straight away, which is key for any new signings, particularly given the slow starts from Wirtz and Isak.

Early days yet, but I think Ndukwe looks really good, to be fair, Hoof It, I'd love if he were able to stay, get a permit and play the cup games so we can get a much better look at him. He looks like he has everything we need in a center half, and if he could develop further, he could be some player.

They don't, they are trying to sign a quality player because they want to and think he's a good player. No such thing as a short term Mo replacement. Could he be a replacement for Gakpo when he does go? Yes, but Gakpo might end up staying for now. But you don't buy a 100 mill player as a stop gap.

After that we struggled to get Awoyinis permit. Not sure what exactly happened as it was yonks ago but don't be optimistic about us getting Nduwekes permit.

Maybe reading too much into it, but is it reasonable to guess that Quansah is the backup option in the event more preferred options fall through? Personally, I believe we could do worse than Quansah. I'd like to see him back.

Quansah should never have been sold in my opinion, and thus I'd love to see him back. He is a far superior player to both Konate and Gomez. However, at the price being mooted (£50-60m) I just think there is better value to be had.

Not against Quansah, the pelters he got on these boards were completely unjustified, in my view. VVD wasn't pulling up many trees in his early 20s either, CBs tend to develop later. Agree with MK that at £50-£60m (or more) there are better value options around; however, he is HG and CT, which would command a premium.
I wonder, with the injury to Kroupi, whether some arrangement (not a swap, as there are financial reasons for them not to happen) with Bournemouth could be worked out with Cody going to them and Rayan coming to us? Allows them to find another young gem to multiply the value of for RW, and Cody provides cover across the front 3, especially whilst Kroupi recovers.
I know Spurs have invested well, but Bournemouth are doing good business in the market and are in Europe.

Looks to me like we need an RB, CH; a midfielder and a forward.

There is a reason why the club put a buy back clause on Quansah. I could be wrong, but I didn't even see anything on a sell-on clause. He has progressed well so far, but not enough to be a first choice CB for us.
The smart thing to do for Liverpool is to let him develop for one more season, and get him back next summer. The number also reduces then.

I'd much rather sign Neco Williams for the full back covers bothe side and go for Zabarnyi for the CB. Unless the club change their mind on sending Ndukwe, as I believe they can do the same as they did with the other young CB from Senegal.
Wouldn't want quansah to careless on the ball to reckless in challenges. Only thing he has on gomez is his fitness, unfortunately for games he can't stay fit otherwise he'd easily be up there with the best about in the league, he gets to much unfair criticism on here over his ability availability fair enough not ability.
Ed 1 with gomes do you happen to know if the club tailor the fitness and training for games or is it a case of everyone doing the same. Thinking in terms of past players like Ledly king, Paul McGrar. And if not maybe a case for them to do so

Selling Quansah was a brilliant deal for Liverpool, one of the few recent deals we "won".
I'd trust Ramsey and the young lads over re-signing Quansah. He's reached his level.

The negligence of keeping Hughes was called weeks ago, and many said keep the faith, it's early, World Cup excuses etc. It hasn't stopped other clubs doing business, so it's clearer it's more about our flawed approach to focus on Diomande and now Barcola.
We only seem to be able to do deals easily where there are buy out clauses. Everything else seems massively over-engineered.

England and Liverpool players just don't seem to go together Fowler overlooked and undervalued, Redknapp always seemed to to get injured when with England also.

MKS, it's rare for me to disagree with you but in the case of Quansah, I reckon I will. He started off well and then imo hit a wall. Whether that's because he thought he had made it or because he had hit his ceiling (or I'm just wrong), I thought it was a good move for him to be sold. I'd agree he is a better option than Gomez, but only because of availability.
Personally, I still think Leoni and Jacquet are better options - until they show they haven't recovered from their injuries. My personal preference is for us to buy someone like Zabarnyi who can cover both RB and CB. Quansah is ok at CB, but he just looks out of his depth at RB.

I would rather have a desiccated dead cat at CB than Quansah. At least the confusion would be from the opponents rather than our players when Quansah again passes to the other team. And the dried out cat would probably score via a deflection.

I could see us signing Quansah, not because he's improved since he left but because it's an easy deal and we're not making headway in the market. I'm not convinced we've got a scouting set up tbh.
