When did we become so negative about a signing, he was barcelona captain, in his prime at 27, has a lot of experience, can play cb or rb and if he doesn't work out we don't have to pay for him at the end,
We are Liverpool where we back the players and the managers until the end (or until it gets to much like under slot) be nice to hear ed001 opinion on him if you have time.

Am I the only one pleased with the araujo signing? Ed001 what's your take? I think given we have a lot of promise with Jacquet and Leoni, who need time to recover/acclimate, this makes a lot of sense to me.

Ed what's your take on Araujo? He was very highly rated at one point. Think I remember him having some kind of mental health issues a while back and haven't seen much of him since. I don't watch too much football outside the prem/ champions league so would like to hear you opinion on him, thanks

I can remember one particular time against Madrid when he destroyed Rudiger in a duel, the clip of it ended up going viral, as he looked a monster right then. However, since then he has spent most of his career injured, so I would worry about him staying fit in a more physical league.}

Yes the window hasn’t closed but this is a disaster.
We’ve lost:
Salah
Ibou
Robertson

We have not replaced Mo who told us he was leaving ages ago.

Ibou with Jacquet who is likely never going to be fit.

Robbo with Kostas who got shipped out before as he was poor.

Araujo is garbage.
Munoz won’t do anything.

Barcola ain’t going to happen now.

It’s shocking across the board.

We have zero chance of the league this year.

It never ceases to amaze me that people aren't embarrassed to be this childish and dramatic on a public forum.

I bet you're fun at parties. Give it a rest.

Player coming to Barcelona at age of 19 must be clearly very talented player. We are good place for metal recovery, I believe. We are not Barcelona in terms of noise and pressure. I have Coutinho in mind, with all differences.

Araujo is fast, big, strong and likes a challenge.
Uruguayan so has that edge.
Unfortunately that comes with a rashness that may at times cost us.
But a season long loan enables Leoni and Jacquet to settle and he can play right back and centre back.
Has captained Barcelona and been described by Xavi as one of the best centre backs in the world and by Vini Jnr as his toughest opponent.

Playing in Spanish league I’d have though Iraola knows all about him too.
Wages sound high but I think pros outweigh the cons on this one.

Darwin Nunez has been very complimentary of him in the past from international camps.

Apparently he's good at holding a very high line and always catches him offside, which is some feat.

Please bring in Kounde for RB too. It essential.

Definitely can't see Kounde happening now.

What if Kounde isn't available?

Ronald Araujo played just 11 games last year after taking an extended break from football due to depression (Araujo himself said this so it's not speculation).

So he's not match fit, injury prone, playing in a new team, new league, new culture, new country while also suffering from depression.

I hope the club has a staff psychologist because this is going to be a very rough transition for Ronald.

Please be kind people and remember football players are people too. Can we sign someone to play until Araujo gets up to speed? At least then he'll be ready to play until Jacquet and Leoni get up to speed.

https://www.rangersrumours.co.uk/images/Ed0041.png avatar{Ed078's Note - You talking season or calendar year? He played 38 times across all competitions. I applaud a player being honest about their mental health battles (I'm not suggesting you were having a go) and am happy to get behind him and be hopeful.

Yeah, sorry I should have specified calendar year, that did seem misleading.

I'm a sports psychologist who works in football, so I too think it's good he got treatment for his issues. I'm not suggesting it's a point of contention. But depression is never cured; it is like cancer, it's either active or in remission. It's going to be a very hard transition for him here.

New language, culture, place, team, tactics, pressures, weather.

As an immigrant myself, I speak from experience when I say that culture differences play a much bigger difference in quality of life than people realise, and being wealthy doesn't insulate you.

I hope he's a success, but he's going to need a lot of support to do so, and we shouldn't be expecting him to slot right in.

Depends, it may have been his first experience of depression, and could be that it's a single episode. Maybe he wanted the move to have a break away from the environment that contributed to his depression. Wealth doesn't insulate you, but it does mean you can afford good therapy. I hope he is a more successful loan than we've had before.

That's a very good analysis, Nevada.

08 Aug 2026 08:26:35
Let's hope it's in remission for the rest of his life then.

Be a real car crash of a window if we spent the whole thing chasing Diomande only to back out, fail to close a deal for Barcola, let Salah go for free and then end up signing an 18 year old back up winger and an injury prone centre back on loan.

Well, we are talking about Hughes, so that's a very real possibility.
