Where do you stand on Curtis Jones Ed? I feel like every season I'm looking forward to him taking that next step in his game. But somehow it feels like that never happen. I honestly feel that I would sell him over Elliot at this point. I feel like if given chances, Elliot could take that next step in his game which Jones couldn't.
{Ed001's Note - after his performance against Chelsea, I would consider selling him to be honest. I don't care that we had won the league, when you are a player fighting for a place and clearly a back up, you should be giving your all in every game to try and win that first team spot. Instead he was not tracking back, not working hard and was instead strolling around like he was on his holidays. That is not the right attitude for a player who is on the fringes of the team.}

I would sell Jones before Elliot, Absolutely. Jones is so overrated its baffling. He holds on to the ball like he is some prime Kaka and Zidane who could resist some 10 players. In an ideal world we should sell both and get the players Slot wants.

What happens if the players Slot wants aren't the players that certain posters want?

I personally rate Jones and he had a much better game vs Arsenal, I think Slot rates him too so he ain't going nowhere imo.
Elliot looks like he has been playing with 2 cement Blocks tied to his feet, he is so slow its unbelievable to say he is better than anyone.

Arne
Both players are slow if you’re honest.

Both are squad players, nothing more. Jones is no longer a kid but hasn't improved, in my opinion. Elliott, I've said many times, I've no idea what is position is. He doesn't have pace to play out wide, or the physicality to play centre mid. It wouldn't bother me if they were both moved on, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Sounds similar to when Gerrard was asked where he stood on Phil Neville. his knee ??.
14 May 2025 10:21:36
I think he feels he is better than he really is. Having self confidence is good but his is bordering on cockiness.
You wouldn't find me complaining if he is sold.

Remember we still need a bench, if a midfielder is brought in it will be because Slot doesn't fancy bajetic for Gravenburch's role or possibly if endo moves on. Early rumours of elliot to forest would see a similar player brought in to rotate and impact off the bench.

I think Jones is a good player, he has good skills n close control. n earlier in the season he was excellent, then he got his England game when he was MOM. after that he gone back to how he used to play. slow n not involved as much. but he is now in his 20s so looks like this is how he's going to be . but I'd still keep him n Elliot as squad players.

With Nyoni waiting in the wings, I think he'll be a factor on which of the two (Jones and Elliott) is moved on. Then there is always the factor of what price Hughes and Ward place on them and see if any other teams bite. Historically, LFC are not exactly the easiest "sellers".

Anyone seen the Amazong Klopp documentary? Do you remember what Klopp said about Jones?
14 May 2025 11:27:41
Ed001 I think Jones has all the attributes to be a world class midfielder but as I’ve said before he is just not learning from the same mistakes he keeps making. If he could just speed up his game and play the simple ball fast he would be so much better. I heard Joleon Lescott talking to Rio about coaching the England squad and he could not stop talking about Jones and how good he was he described him as Englands best number 6 and how he had everything.
14 May 2025 12:04:11
People complain about Jones not releasing the ball quickly enough but the fact is he is still one of the best midfielders we have for keeping possession under pressure. He is also a very good presser, has above average mobility and athleticism. He could stand to improve but as a squad player he is as good as it gets imo.
14 May 2025 12:27:46
I don't think Jones is going anywhere. Slot seems to trust him, with him usually being the first he turns to when any of the first choice midfielders is in need of a break. He does have his flaws but I think overall, he is a decent player and I wouldn't mind him as a squad option. I agree that he was a bit too lax against Chelsea but I thought he was alright against Arsenal.

We’ll put @PB, agree with your appraisal of Curtis.
14 May 2025 13:36:52
Ed on that game alone, I agree. Jones was poor.

We can’t sell the whole team at once.
I think we already know a few will be leaving. I think selling too many would be a mistake and leave us short as it will be expensive to sign someone better than Jones IMO.
