Rumours seem to be circling about Nunez being given one more year to come good. Not sure what to make of it, but surely we now know exactly what to expect of him? It’s not all as bad as we make out, nor is he ever going to be as good as we hope. Ultimately, it seems slot doesn’t rate him, but the market seems poor for instant quality - can we really spend another £80m+ on a gamble?

There's no point in giving Nunez another year when, rightly or wrongly, Slot clearly doesn't rate him.

He started an entirely ineffective (and I'm convinced still injured) Jota in the two PSG games and the League Cup Final and left Nunez on the bench, even though Nunez got an assist when he came on in the first PSG game and scored and won a pen against Southampton in between those games. That's how much he doesn't rate Nunez.

07 Jun 2025 22:34:04
I doubt it, he annoyed Slot by giving up after PSG.

It’s over for him, unless we can’t find a buyer.

Nunez committed the cardinal sin of not even trying for the badge.

Any other player would have been hammered.

The guy always has Anfield behind him and he spent the last few months sulking.

If he stays though then like every player he’d get my support on the pitch. I just can’t see him starting many games again though.

Perhaps he’d stay because there are no buyers out there for him or Jota.

Rumours circulating? He's clearly not good enough and misses absolute sitters so let's keep him another season, I don't see it buddy.

08 Jun 2025 01:54:28
He loves the fans the fact the club decided against starting him to save a few Bob is probably reason enough for him to think sod ya. If he stays play him in his favoured position ( does he not play on the left) give him enough games to get going see how it goes. Let’s stop this shoe horning players into positions not favoured by them then calling them failures.

08 Jun 2025 02:05:22
I don't think he'll play much, the club has been avoiding starting him as it is to avoid paying one of his appearance related bonuses to Benfica.

08 Jun 2025 02:10:41
Jonesy, perfectly plausible if the club have spent all the transfer kitty or there’s no other affordable targets.

08 Jun 2025 02:30:38
Nonsense, if we find a buyer Nunez goes. He would do ok in Italy, or the Dutch leagues where the game is slower, I would be happy to take £45m for him and move on.
Still think there is a chance he could go to Saudi, there are other clubs.
As for Gordon, we don’t need him, but we MUST try to find a suitable striker.

I know im in the minority but, in the absence of a top alternative being available, i would keep Nunez for another season. His stats were good enough last year and not the worst this year despite limited opportunities.
A review of some of his previous goals show that when he is on form he can be top drawer. Sadly, his form has evaded him recently and his poor attitude has compounded the situation.
Slot is head coach. It would be interesting to see Darwin to get a full preseason of coaching, psychology and motivation and what the results might be. Nunez must know that his career trajectory is heading downhill at this stage and he either knuckles down or drops to a less prominent club. He has all the raw materials to be a PL striker, he has all the top facilities to train at, and some of the best coaches in the world to refine his abilities, not to mention the whole of Anfield believing in him. The only thing missing is his own drive to be better.
Unless we can jag someone of proven quality up front, i wouldn't mind Slot and co given a few months to do what it says on their tin and try and get a tune out of Darwin’s latent abilities. If he can pick his bottom lip up and find the same sort of self-belief our previous Uraguayan striker had, i still believe he could be a success.

its all posturing since Al Hilal chose someone else and there are no buyers at the price edwards and hughes want.

08 Jun 2025 05:58:27
Not an unreasonable suggestion at all, @DE. Why not play him in his position and see what he comes up with? (I mean Chiesa is a LW too, as dar as the italians are concerned, so he's in a similar boat) .

However the next time he starts, LFC will have to pay a hefty premium, right? So the strategy needs to be sound and season long.

@SJL8, I'm in total agreement with you.

08 Jun 2025 08:23:17
Nunez has got to go . end of . how people think he could still come good is beyond me . he's just not up to it. he had one good thing the fans liked and that was his workrate but even that has gone.

08 Jun 2025 08:34:09
Atletico and AC Milan are still interested. Sure Al Hilal weren’t the only Saudi side. He’ll go in my opinion.

08 Jun 2025 09:04:36
Really can’t see it pissed slot off with lack of effort, didn’t he say he could handle the lack of goals but not lack of effort.

08 Jun 2025 09:33:19
If he's keen to go, I'm sure the Saudi league will buy him then allocate a club. It doesn't have to be one specific club who wants him over there.
It will be a headline grabbing more for them to get someone so young to play over there rather than all the 30+ year olds they usually convince.

08 Jun 2025 09:36:47
Nunez will go this summer of that I've absolutely no doubt but if saudi not in for him I don't think we be getting great fee for him. There probably loads of interest but none great deals for lfc money wise.
But we will bite the bullet sometime over the summer and he will go and needs to both for himself and the club, not worked out at all.

08 Jun 2025 10:03:42
Not sure what the point of 1 more.

08 Jun 2025 10:30:27
OP, who was it saying he’s getting another year? Was it the tinkers on the interweb, perhaps?

08 Jun 2025 14:10:28
Dunno about atleti but AC Milan definitely can't afford either the fee or his salary either.

08 Jun 2025 17:27:40
So we've been playing him in the wrong position, creating the wrong sort of chances for him, continually giving him the ball when he's in offside positions, repeatedly getting him yellow carded and not recreating training ground conditions for him on match days?
If we did all that for him, there might actually be a player in there.
