I don't know about everyone else, but £140 million for Isak just seems insane to me. Especially considering our transfer outlay so far, and need to cover a number of positions still, such as a winger and centre backs.

That is a massive financial hit for a striker with a known concern around injuries, and specially tailored training regime to ensure he can play 1 to 2 matches a week. Great player, mind you, and I can definitely see the draw. But, my word, that is a lot of money.

At this rate, we won't be far from hitting £500 million spend in one transfer window. I regularly ridiculed Chelsea for this, so I would feel like a bit of a hypocrite, if I did not feel the same concern now.

There is a grave difference between clubs owners sportswashing or splashing their own cash or fiddling the books to generate success and revenue Vs a well run club who have generated their own revenue through business and success saved the coppers until the correct moment and now being willing to take the risk and splash it all in one sitting.

Everything the club are spending is legitimately earned.

Where are all the FSG OUT brigade now days?

Not your money, not your concern.

Let those that (seem to) know look after it.

Remember when we had to convince ourselves we were going to challenge for the title after signing Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli, now people are concerned that we are buying some of the best players in the world. The difference between Liverpool and Chelsea is Liverpool do this once in a decade, Chelsea do this every other transfer window and have to sell their women’s team and hotels to make themselves PSR compliant.

Fair if you feel that way but is mis guy used and dare I say a little sensitive that you’ll be worried other clubs fans will point the finger and you feel like you won’t be able to say anything

They’re misguided too. We’re spending in alignment with our approach to business. Chelsea have spent and spent and spent and sold some building to themselves then spent again and spent then sold the women’s team to themselves then spent and spent

It’s not the same. And if other fans can’t grasp that then who cares.

To quote the late great ed02 don’t get in to finances . I couldn’t care less on how much we spend and on who I just want to see us with the best players and being the best team and therefore winning the most we can . If we can do that on a 0 net spend or -300million net I just don’t care .

I think isak is class and the gold standard of forwards in the league so if we can get him get him let the money people worry about the finances.

Mango, it ain’t out money. If he signs just enjoy it.

27 Jul 2025 22:14:49
I’m fine with it, time will tell if we’ve spent wisely or not, but all within means and the rules.

27 Jul 2025 22:15:32
And even with Isak and others, it would still only register as the 48th highest spend window in the history of English football.
Paying for players over the length of the contract, sales and years of careful management have laid the foundations for this spend.

I agree that isak is a risk, but even if he plays only half of the games per season, he can give us the edge that the very best teams have - a lethal forward that doesn't miss big chances.

27 Jul 2025 22:39:53
I feel £140 is a lot but Citeh, Chelski would pay without even worrying about it . so im coming round to the fact that we have to pay for top quality with top quality prices.

You are thinking too short term Mango. This isn’t a case that we will keep spending and spending the owners’ money until we get it right a la Chelsea and City.

We’ve all been concerned about Salah’s age and where the goals will come from when he can’t do it anymore. We’ve had people whining about succession planning for the last few years.

Well here it is. Rather than taking a chance on unproven players and hoping they become the next great goal scorer, we’ve saved our money last summer, signed Salah up for another 2 years and are now going out and buying an already great goal scorer who can score us goals for the next 7 years.

We needed Ekitike because of the tragedy that befell Jota and his brother, nobody could’ve seen that coming.

Wirtz was a bonus but with all of the outgoings was affordable and a special 22 year old that can be the engine of the team for 10 years. Too good an opportunity to let go by.

We are also working on VVD’s succession and we decided Quansah wasn’t it so by all accounts are tracking various CBs. That will be very difficult as there isn’t another CB that can be anything like VVD has been but we have him for another 2 years at least so let’s see who we can get in.

It’s all good.

{Ed078's Note - stop talking sense, it'll never catch on.

LFC made record revenues with over 600m in rev.

Add to that the PL prize money which I think was 100-150m if memory serves me right, CL money that will come in this season and spending very little last season, I read some stats showing we could still spend £200m comfortably and LEGALLY before the Diaz-to-Bayern deal was agreed.

So with the 65m for Diaz + whatever we get for Nuñez, Elliott and Chiesa, we still have got heaps of room for spending.

And like @Robboslostlegs said, it looks like the club are building a team for the next 7-10years. I doubt next window we'll spend anywhere close to this one, probably half the amount at most with less incomings and much less outgoings.

28 Jul 2025 03:20:12
And once again, this is why we don’t talk about finance.

Oh yeah, the crescendo of that roar as the referee put his hand to his ear just gives me goosebumps thinking about it.
