The revisionism has started. Luis Diaz has had a good game last night for Bayern Munich and people on social media are acting like we’ve forced prime messi out of the club.
People really do have short memories. Do people not remember his dad and his team instigating for a move for the past 2 years? Bringing up Barcelona at every opportunity? Do they not remember Diaz wanting to leave?
And let’s face it, while he could have flashes of brilliance, he was very inconsistent. I’m not saying he was a bad player but he was never world class.

Good to hear Diaz is doing well at Bayern.
Always gave his all for us and was instrumental in helping us win the league last season.
I wish him all the best apart from if Bayern come up against us.

World class is an over used and overly subjective term.
End of the day he was a key player in our first team squad that helped us win.

You are bit too bothered by people JK_RED. For perspective the official Liverpool facebook page has 51 million followers. Even a million revisionist posts aren't really telling us what the fan base actually thinks. There will always be some who think differently.

I thought he was a very good player, perhaps not world class but very, very good. Didn’t always have end product, but had flair, unpredictability, workrate, and some goals. I didn’t want him to go, but he wanted to, so it was the correct decision - I don’t think we need to try and make out he wasn’t a good player for us though.

Diaz was in prime form, 18 goals in a season, in the prem is not an easy job, however, we made a large profit on a player that depends on speed and, from here on in is only going to decline, at least according to the experts.
Diaz is a better all round player than Cody (in my opinion), and works a lot harder, and whilst Cody scores plenty, he doesn't do a great deal more so there is a chance that we will be weaker in the work rate department on the left, but this was a calculated move, selling a player at peak value.
Lets see how Wirtz handles the increased physicality and pace of the game in the prem vs how Diaz handles the easing off of those things in Germany, which will give us some indication to the difference in levels between the English and German league.

Loved Diaz work rate when he was a Red and we’ll always remember him very fondly
But he never replaced Sadio Mane. Mane was 10x the player and truly world class.

Great effort, amazing pace, became stronger in tackle and harder to knock off the ball. Started scoring more goals and assisting. I’d have kept him if we didn’t have a replacement lined up. I’d have sold him if we had a replacement lined up given his age and expecting massive wages. Hopefully with a run of games Gakpo proves we did the right thing. I expect Diaz to score and assist a hatful in the German league.

Don't forget the defending isn't as good over there and Leipzig are not great.

Diaz is a very good player and would have linked up very well with our new technically-gifted players (as was evident in the training videos) . I would have preferred he stayed as an alternative to Gakpo. Both effective but in different ways.
I think we need a technical winger (ideally with pace) as it adds another dimension to our game. Still interested to see what Slot does IF Isak comes in. Does he play both him and Ekitike together or one or the other? Maybe it'll depend on the opposition, in which case, having a Diaz type would be valuable.
{Ed001's Note - Diaz was forcing his way out, he wanted to leave.}

JKRed, it's hardly instigating a move to Barcelona when his dad said that it was "a dream" when asked a question.
Even if he did try to instigate move to Barcelona, he wasn't very good at it and I can let that go. He regularly played for us, he did ok and played a part in us getting back into the CL, win the League Cup and winning the League again.
He's nowhere near a legend but he was a decent servant and I think it was time for him to move on.

Here we go. Another Liverpool player leaves and now it’s necessary to down play his part in Liverpools success. Standard approach!
He was a very good player for Liverpool and had his best season in which we won the league. Not as good as Mane tho and he wanted to leave which was a shame but we did get a pretty good fee. Still I would have been happy enough to see him playing in a red shirt still.
23 Aug 2025 10:56:45
2 things firstly Diaz was always going to do well in Germany as it’s a slower league and will suit his more. And secondly he will try harder for them because he wanted to leave Liverpool for whatever crazy reasons.
{Ed077's Note - 1 game, calm down before jumping to conclusions
23 Aug 2025 11:11:05
I love Diaz and didn’t want him to leave but he wanted to go so so we let him. We don’t want players who don’t want to be here. Good luck to him I hope he smashes it.
(Maybe Newcastle should take a leaf out of our book ?)
23 Aug 2025 11:26:05
He wanted more money. The club wasn't willing to pay as much as Bayern. So he left. He's in his prime, so probably his last major contract before cashing in for Saudi. I don't begrudge him wanting to get a higher salary. I think paying a little more to retain him wouldn't have been a bad move.
Moving forward, having that type of winger in our squad is what we should be looking for.

LFC8
Whilst I agree that Mane was a better player for us than Diaz I would say a little better player not 10 x that would make Mane the best player in the world ever, and as good as he was he never got near those giddy heights.
23 Aug 2025 11:55:15
He’s a good football player. he helped make us a better team. He wanted a new challenge. Fair play to the lad and best wishes for the future.
23 Aug 2025 12:08:59
I liked Diaz, worked hard good skills etc . but always rumours he wanted to leave every year . but does anyone know the real reason he wanted to leave, he seemed happy. was it just about money?
23 Aug 2025 12:34:32
Langland I’ve already told LFC8 364 billion times before to stop over exaggerating.
23 Aug 2025 14:29:10
Personally think we should have kept Diaz. Always put in a shift. Was he angling for a move away or a better contract. He can wish for Barcelona all he wants but Bayern regardless of success play in an inferior league to the prem IMO. Diaz has taken a step down but I wish him every success.

Stop crying ? you all know what I mean. He was a top player. But he was closer to Shaun Wright Philips than Sadio Mane.
