I know not everyone will agree and that's ok but what has happened to Salah. I mean we know his legs have gone but he can't pass, he can't shoot and he looks truly awful! I can't remember seeing a top top player like Salah fall of a cliff so badly.

I have no clue why he was allowed to take that free kick ahead of sobz, everyone knew it was going into the stands.

{Ed025's Note - he has been awful for a good while now Longthing, i dont think hes the reason you are poor but hes certainly part of it mate, for me he should be dropped but the manager tried that and ended up being vilified and treated as the devil, myself i would sell him asap and get some money for him while you can..

Perhaps it's because he hasn't had a break, mate.

09 Feb 2026 09:30:50
I totally agree eds25. He will always be remembered as a legend but the time has come to sell and reinvest.
What a sad season this is turning out to be.

{Ed025's Note - he has been a legend Longthing but time and tide waits for no man mate, he may also be victim of the way football is evolving, the emphasis seems to be on players who are big athletic types and speed and skill being not so important nowadays..

I'm with you Longthing and you Ed025. There are those on here who blame Slot for Salah's form dropping, they are entitled to that opinion, personally I think that's tosh. Salah's form dropped off in the last few months of last season (as did loads of others) and it's dropped even further this season. I think he's playing worse now than he was when he was dropped, but I'm not sure if Slot has the balloons to drop him this time. Also, I'm not sure who we bring in, in the absence of Frimpong.

He definitely needs to go in the summer, and before posters pile in, so does the manager unless he turns things around.

{Ed025's Note - its a sad state of affairs Rome, myself i think it would be better for all parties if Mo was to leave mate, hes been fantastic for the club but the longer this gets protracted out the more the shine will fade on his legacy i feel, thanks Mo for everything but its time for a new chapter..

09 Feb 2026 09:43:42
He almost got Guehi sent off and had what should have been a world class assist to Ekitike who can't head to save his life. But ofcourse let's bash Salah despite 8 others having much more terrible games. I am done.

As ed says, this isn't a new thing. Even during seasons were he has produced excellent numbers, he tends to drop off towards the end of the season massively or after signing a new bumper contract!

09 Feb 2026 09:53:21
Spot on Ed. Senior players have a lot to answer for as well as Slot.

{Ed025's Note - not just the senior ones i would suggest MM..

A combination of things, the managers tactics don't suit him at all, this slow pace means that by the time Mo gets the ball defenders are set and ready, even though his legs are gone (which actually happened nearly 2 seasons ago now) Mo is still at his best when playing direct/ counter attacking football, a quick counter gives him the advantage of an unsettled defender, it makes things a lot easier, there's been none of that this season. Mo was brought in the play a specific type of football and that came to an abrupt stop this season, after 8 years that's not easy to adapt to.

The large number of changes in the summer definitely didn't help, Mo openly spoke about the difficulties of getting to learn everyone's movements at the beginning of this season, and clearly things still haven't gelled. Obviously, Trent moving on was massive too, they had a great understanding and there was no better man for releasing Salah in opportune moments. And then of course Mo was hit hard by the loss of Diogo.

Had he been dealt these issues one at a time I think he could have coped but the fact that they all came along at once has made things incredibly difficult for him, the result of which has caused a knock of confidence so spectacular that it would be near impossible to recover from given his age and the direction the team is going.

I do believe Slot, Hughes and Edwards share a large part of the blame, tactics aside, it certainly seems like there was little to no consideration given to the idea that losing so many first team players who had good link up play with Salah could affect him so much. I think he's been so good for so long that the notion never crossed anyone's mind. A massive oversight in my opinion.

A well put together post, Chewy. I just happen to disagree with everyone of your 4 paragraphs. That's what this site is all about.

Most fans wanted him re-signed, and since that's happened, he gets to control the next steps as he's under contract.
The only sensible way to get him to move on was to put him in direct competition with someone very good - ie his eventual successor, but we didn't buy anyone and Chiesa is no threat, since Slot never plays him.

Salah would leave if he was not playing, but now we only have a short time to initiate that process, meaning he likely stays for another 18 months and leaves on a free - another mess from master deal maker Hughes.

JK - he needs a break? He was awful before AFCON (and got rightly dropped - and had a break! ), he was average at AFCON and failed to show up in the final (again).

Yesterday he made two contributions in 90 minutes that did not change the game and was a passenger (at best) for the remainder of the game. Sick of how many times he gets fouled but also sick of the way he throws himself to the floor, does him no favours.

His touch is more often than not woeful and he cannot keep the ball down any more, it seems.

Apart from that, he was amazing!

I think Salah will go next season.

09 Feb 2026 11:54:20
Stetienne my comment is tongue in cheek in reference to the post below.

09 Feb 2026 12:04:48
Salah was actually quite good at AFCON despite his team being generally terrible and awfully negative StEtienne.

09 Feb 2026 12:28:36
@PB, he looked better at AFCON because the general standard of teams was poor compared to PL teams.

As a general comment, I thought we started to play better when he was away playing for Egypt. Like Robbo before him, the spirit is still willing but the legs have seen too much mileage. Not their fault, not Slot's fault, not the club's fault. If someone to blame it's Father Time.

Both superb players and integral parts of our best team in 30 odd years. No shame that they are past their peak and any criticism levelled at them is shorty sighted imho.

09 Feb 2026 11:49:14
For me the danger should have been seen last year, not because Salah was awful, he was the best on the planet IMO. But it was so obvious that we were so reliant on him it was a big concern for me. I know I'm an anorak but I'm a SHEQ Director, always looking after where the risk is, where the continuity could fail. I remember saying to my LFC fan mates I was worried because if Salah starts slowing down, we would be a bang average team, and so it has happened.
Klopp had us as a team better than the sum of its parts with some moments of pure quality sprinkled in. Slot has destroyed that team and our moments of quality providers are spent. Very worrying times. We need to get CL and this summer right, including being brave enough to admit this course of action isn't working and get back on track or I forsee a few years of nothingness again.
When your on top you need to capitalise and ensure continuity to ensure you stay there, and unfortunately that is something our current management set up has failed woefully at.

09 Feb 2026 12:27:32
Yeah and Egypt never made it to the final, just salah bashing for bashings sake.

09 Feb 2026 13:18:31
Rome1977! - No doubt, what good would sharing opinions be if everyone had the same one?

But, the idea that Slots tactics don't suit Salah's preferred style of play is not an opinion, it's glaringly obvious. The idea that Salah has had difficulty gelling with new signings amidst of a large number of outgoings is not just obvious, Mo literally said it himself. And of course nobody can deny the affect of Jotta's tragedy, which Mo seemed to take particularly hard.

So if you don't agree with any of that, maybe you'd shed a little light on why? and maybe propose alternate reasoning?

I think he'll sit on his contract until it expires.
