I live in lyon and have been impressed by the performances of Tyler Morton. I know it's a farmer's league, but he has been very impressive all season. Well done to the lad for getting his career up and running again.

But, I was chatting with a pal about which player whom we sold in the last 5 years who we'd love to see back in the current team. For me it is trent. My pal chose Diaz. Who'd you choose ed?

{Ed001's Note - that depends, would they be coming back as their peak or how they are now? If it is peak, then Firmino, if it is how they are now, no one.}

Bobby every day. ?

10 Mar 2026 06:26:14
The one Klopp called Dyson.

10 Mar 2026 06:27:26
Mane for me.

10 Mar 2026 06:43:37
I'd go with Fabinho. We need some steel and grit in the middle of the park.

10 Mar 2026 06:48:23
Peak form Bobby would be the last 10 years, never mind 5. Excellent intuitive football brain and generally underrated in my opinion.

10 Mar 2026 07:09:27
Peak Mane.

10 Mar 2026 07:33:36
Peak Thiago.

10 Mar 2026 07:38:29
Mane for me also.

10 Mar 2026 08:24:15
Mane.

10 Mar 2026 08:36:34
Sadiooooooo.

10 Mar 2026 08:42:09
Peak Fabinho, we're soft in midfield and need some steel & grit.

10 Mar 2026 08:43:55
Rome, Spurs Sunday?

10 Mar 2026 09:18:43
Bobbie and Mane, all day.

10 Mar 2026 09:23:44
Yeah, Fabinho for me, based on what the squad needs right now. Desperately missing the sort of player that can play in midfield but is essentially like another defender when you're pushed back.
I was always critical of our midfield under Klopp, not enough creativity, not enough goals, etc.

Slot ball has thoroughly changed my mind, though. What I'd do to have the likes of peak Fab and Hendo in this team.

I can't make Spurs, JK. I had a ticket, but I'm up my lad's in Chester, for the weekend, for Mother's Day. Some things I can't get out of! I'm going to Galatasaray on Wednesday. Do you have tickets for Spurs, mate?

10 Mar 2026 11:03:28
Oooof, imagine a fully fit Thiago Alacantara in this team! Gutted we didn't get to see that.

Mane, Bobby, Fabinho and a younger Trent would all make a huge difference to this team.

10 Mar 2026 11:05:42
I can't think of any like Morton who we've let go and they've gone on to be world beaters at another team.

I'd love to have Kelleher back as a number 2 and then him take over as number 1 in a couple of years.

I'd never want a player back who wanted out, and made sure he got out. To love a football club is more than just putting on a shirt. We also had his best years. The No. 12 in Spain.

This team would need two former players in their prime: Henderson for that midfield, and Mane. Our team's piss poor. One wouldn't be enough. Fabinho would struggle in that midfield. Fabinho was excellent because he also had two other midfielders putting in real shifts. The football suited his best abilities, but also took his legs.
When he had Thiago to be able to dictate and control our play, it also worked very well with Henderson and Fabinho.

Actually, probably Thiago would be suited to this team and its approach. So, in a make-believe world, a fully fit Thiago.

Klopp built a world-class 11. Most were playing at the highest level. The midfield was perfect for the system. Top, top players sprinkled right throughout it. If it wasn't for 115, we'd have had the greatest era of success ever in English football.
We had a world-class backline playing at their peaks. The midfield was excellent for what we were, and we had a special front 3 playing at their peak. What a time it was. We were spoiled.

What a great question - down the pub with the lads convo. I'd be greedy: Bobbie Dazzler, Hendo and Mane. 1 Bobby, coz he's my son's fav player, but would need a few beers to discuss that out.

10 Mar 2026 12:27:25
Rome, yes mate. Next time, bud. ?

10 Mar 2026 13:12:23
JK, I'm going to make it my mission to have a beer with you, mate! I hope the game on Sunday is as good as the last Spurs home game, but I don't think either of us expect that!

I agree with that, Ron, but it didn't stop people saying we lacked creativity in midfield, especially after a defeat.

Even then, we had fans crying out for a creative midfield player, even though that would've affected our balance.

I didn't particularly like Thiago because I felt he dwelt on the ball too much and was unable or unwilling to change his game to suit the team. The team had to change to accommodate him rather than him changing to fit into the team.

I always thought when Thiago was playing the opposition's tactic was easy, just allow Thiago to get the ball then press him.

He'll invariably give you the ball because he backed his ability too much. A bit like Curtis Jones does today.

People used to see his lunging tackles and confuse that with working hard. Like anything, he only had to lung into tackles because he got caught out in the first place. I thought positionally he was poor, on the ball he was too slow and he didn't really add the creativity we hoped he would.

Talent wise he was one of the best in the world and at times he was a joy to watch, but he just didn't suit our team at the time.

Henderson all day. We need leadership in the middle of the park, a proper captain Henderson was.

10 Mar 2026 17:08:34
Peak Thiago never played for us, though, so that's a bit of a strange selection. If he was regularly fit for us, and could get momentum going, I have no doubt that he would have been more than a decent player for us. I would say that he saw passes that nobody else could see regularly. He was never the person who would regularly supply the killer pass; even with Bayern, he wasn't that kind of player, but he would progress the ball and get it through the lines in difficult and creative ways that other players simply did not have the ability to do.

If anything, he was the player who would regularly create the situation from which somebody could easily assist somebody else.

I also agree that he would often frustrate because of his tendency to take a touch too many, though. I remember sometimes he would do flicks and feints even with nobody around him, like it was an instinctive thing for him to do or something. In his prime, he was probably the most press-resistant midfielder in the world, though, at Bayern you couldn't get the ball off him, and he was impossible to knock over.

The question doesn't outlaw Peak Thiago. Read it again instead of posting TL;DR replies.

10 Mar 2026 18:11:27
Considering the player that we sold was Thiago, who played for Liverpool and not the Thiago who played for Bayern, one would assume that the player in question would have had his best years in a red shirt.

It doesn't make much sense to me to want Bayern Thiago back at Liverpool. Maybe, you shouldn't be so hostile and rude, and consider why somebody wrote what they did?

Milly for me do a job any where in the side.
